  1. alloy cover- simple job, just found a hose the same size as the drain from the skyline
  2. hang on, are you now talking oil return for turbo, or are you trying to drain your catch can. if its the later I wouldn't bother. just empty it every so often. put a glass sight on it and you should be all good
  3. wrong way round on the 323i power, later ones had the 150hp, also had larger ports in the head. I v eonly driven the later, 150hp one, not the earlier one
  4. 323i was only made for a few years, from late in 1983 to either late 1985 or early '86. Nothing wrong with them just a bit older so not many nice ones around. They go quite well, not as good as a 325i but much better than a 320i. A tidy manual 325i is probably the best bet, but getting hard to find and pretty pricey. I wouldn't bother with a 320i, real thirsty for what they are and not much quicker than a 318i. Parts are pretty much the same for all, each have a few specific parts but not too hard to track down if you know where to look. 325's usually have more goodies like rear sway bar, bigger struts, 4 wheel discs, on board computer, full electrics etc All handle much the same, more comes down to how well the suspensions been maintained. (eg shocks and bushes replaced). the 4 cyls a little better balanced due to less weight over the front but extra power of the 325i more than makes up for it.
  5. I agree with the others, its sucks pulling stuff apart again to fix something you know you should have done right in the first place, (i know). FWIW you dont have to run back into the sump, Ive got mine running into the timing chain cover, just a simple piece of alloy pipe welded to the side with a bead on it.

    E30 petrol cap

dont know if I should say this, as I can imagine it would be sorta funny watching the little petrol cap defeat you but anyway... it spins when its locked, turn the key then try it again. dont be surprised if its a little tough to turn.
  7. welcome to the site, do what ryan said, either fix it or chuck a bigger motor in. M52B28 (328i motor) would be easy enough to put in corrected
  8. pretty sure they're sold sorry. will let you know in the next few days
  9. on tardme now, most $1 res struts: http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=184060341 injectors: http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=184063018

    oil spots

I've tried degreaser before without much luck, 'spose it wont hurt to give the oven cleaner a go. Otherwise time and the elements it is. cheers guys edit: just been told the landlord is down tomorrow, great.
  11. Was playing around with the car, forgot a washer and got a trail of small oil spots up the asphalt driveway. Any one know of any easy way to get rid of them? cheers
  12. E30 M3 bushings from dealer are most comfortable of the offset bushings, urethane options: http://www.powerflex.co.uk http://www.akgmotorsport.com/e30products.html almost solid option: http://www.treehouseracing.com
  13. skirts are SE skirts, think they also sometimes came on the 318iS very nice score
  14. No, I'd keep the flange solid, maybe chop it half way to allow for some expansion if anything. I was meaning enlarging the actual bolt holes, just stops you from shearing studs off. Basically keep the ones in the middle of the mani (cyls 3 & 4) the same (so it still sits right) and gradually make them a bit larger as you get towards cylinders 1 and 6. Other issue along with actually accessing the nuts is to make sure you can get the mani on and off with the studs in the head. I have to jack up one side of the motor and looks like I have more room than you. my wastepipe is 2.5" around the steering column, definatley room for 3" around that part, just maybe not where you get around your manifold, too hard to tell from the pics. I would try for 3" all the way, 2.5"will be way to small on your motor yea, my current IC is bit of a joke
  15. Yea this was one of the main reasons for the dyno day, only it wasnt ready in time. I've always been meaning to make a chch meet but timing has always been off. Still using a bit of water when i'm giving it a decent run, seem to be coming out around the cap, only I've tried two and still happening. Could be dud tank maybe, will take it for a pressure test and see whats happening. No steam out the exhaust so i dont think theres a problem with the HG or head. Other thing is that turbo could be boiling the water, going to bypass it and see if that helps things. Intercooler is now way to small. Really noticable performance difference between hot and cold. 12psi is getting up there too. Probably going to go front mount but might grab a water/air IC off an old legacy to see what thats like. Cam - I just plumbed off the valve cover, could also add another hose between the filter and turbo if you wanted more vacuum
  16. looking good man, keen to see you squeeze a 3" through there. definately do-able but from the pics looks like will be very tight. Where'd you source the flange from? I had a family friend cut my old ones but can't use him anymore. Are you planning to slot the holes at all? Long manifold like that is going to expand quite a bit. Can you get to all the bolts easily? Couple of mine are a real PITA to get at, basically got to slide an open-ender up between the mani and block. Would also like to see more pics of your inter-cooler and plumbing when its all done, heat soak owns me at the moment. keep the updates coming (not that i'm any good at that)
  17. Its debateable, some people have seen gains with the bigger AFM, others reckon its a waste of time. Its cheap enough you could try it and stuff around with the spring tension to see if you can get it running any better.
  18. so they start stealing instead? guess we use the money we save from benefits to get more cops to catch them. Then we can spend more money keeping them in jail.
  19. Need to get rid of some stuff before I move: E30 rear shocks, Boge Turbos, basically boge's sports shock. I've done about 15'000km on them and they are in great condition. Supposedly around 30% stiffer than stock so work really well with lowered springs. I had 40mm drop springs which they kept captive. $50 Set of E30 Bottlecaps. Reasonable condition. 2 tyres are stuffed, but the other 2 are yoko c-drives and still have plenty of tread. Will get some pics up soon. $100 (worth it for tyres) E30 45mm front struts, straight. $15 a side 4x 255cc High Impedence bosch injectors. Bolt straight into M10 fuel rail. (and other E30 i assume) Perfect for low boost M10 turbo setup. $150 M30 AFM - Modified for use with L-jet. $40 Will get pics up soonish. Open to offers on most of it, all the stuff is in Chch. Cheers
  20. I had BOGE Turbos in the rear of my car for a while, I really liked them too. Only swapped them out for a full set off bilsteins. (front's were stock). Worked really well with lowered springs too. [Free Plug] They're for sale too, $50 firm, great condition. [/plug]
  21. um, so what is it? you want the kids shipped off out the house ASAP so mum can work but you dont want pay for it? Whats the point in mum working all day just to pay someone else to look after the kids? Let mum (or dad) enjoy their kids pre-school years I'm with Grant and Penry, tax cuts would be sweet but theres more important things to worry about
  22. and what about those with pre-schoolers?
  23. yea but didn't watch Winston, can't stand the guy. Not so much lately but IMHO the previous years have been pretty good, economy was growing pretty well, unemployment is also damn low. Hard to say how much of that is Labour's doing or just them piggy-backing on the rest of the world. They came through on a number of their promises. We all here stories about people ripping off the benefits but I also know a few people who they have really helped. I also think national will win, and I'm not too worried about it. I'm just trying to decide whether it will be a good thing if they can get 50% by themselves or whether we'd be better off with another coalition
  24. Toss up between the big two, none of the smaller parties really do it for me. Pretty sick of uncle Helen, though they haven't really done a bad job, and I've got my interest free loan. But National's tax cuts that we can't really afford dont sit to well with me either. Will wait until most of the policies are out there.
  25. Update: Radiator is from a E34 535i. Made up new bottom mounts and some brackets for the e30 M20 expansion tank. The M30 uses larger hoses to the M10 so I also had to make up some reducers to go between the two sizes. Also replaced all the hoses, just went to repco and grabbed whatever worked and chopped them up if I had to. Expansion tank is plumbed into the heater return line (cheers glenn). Didn't manage to take it for a run tonight but will check it all out tomorrow so hopefully theres no leaks or issues with bleeding it. I also ran out of time and steel to do the top mounts, will suss those shortly. An electric fan is also going to go in, will probably just wire it in to MS to switch it. I should have done the radiator upgrade ages ago but I had a reasonable run out of that old stock one, was only really when I switched to a water cooled turbo that I needed the extra cooling. New exhaust gasket also in, will see how long this one lasts, otherwise I'll go to a solid flange in an attempt to stop blowing them.
