  1. Tip photos All have various dents ... Good from a far but far from good if you are fussy
  2. Tested the converted DME last night and it worked perfectly as expected - no error codes. Didn't get a chance to drive around to live stream data to make sure it is all reporting correctly - but I am told that it is. Will do this when I get a chance and when the weather is good again. Some photos: Started with this: Changed The AM29F200 to AM29F400 and added the H Bridge and associated caps Changed out the resistors as guided by Terra in the US forums who has done the traces to find the differences between the two boards. If the resistors are not changed you get a code 233 which is map sensor related under CSL software. Flash on CSL software via WINKFP and voila (you will get an internal driver error (code 151) which is due to the difference in injector drivers in the non HP DME vs the HP variant. According to Terra the two drivers functions exactly the same, but are just different. This code can be taken out of course quite easily. Put in car and search for codes and no errors. All credit to Terra in the USA for figuring this out for the community.
  3. As far I as know there aren't anything bmw specific - time trial wise. Time attack styled series aren't the realms of bmw race series (endurance, sprint races ect) or bmw car club (driver training) type events ... So there is a void in the market. Also I'll get my ass kicked for saying this ... But your run of the mill bmws in modified class would get killed in single lap time attacks by jdm cars - period. Hell I know enough 2.4 litre vtecs that do faster lap times than open class bmws.
  4. Setup a BMW specific one Amber :P superlap BMWs Divided in - Non modified street class (fully stock cars bar perhaps better tyres, brakes and maybe suspension and minor engine mods - semi slicks allowed) - modified street class (for heavily modified cars ... with engine transplants, aero work, ect ... slicks allowed) - racecars/open (caged ect) Single lap practice run ... timed run ... and one cool down lap. Personally I think there would be enough interests and participants just from BMW owners.
  5. Small update, but significant I suppose. Have successfully turned a MSS54 into a MSS54HP CSL DME ... well on the bench tester at least. Will vehicle test when I have time, but reasonably confident it will work perfectly.
  6. Okay, I've had this thing for a while now - was intending on cutting it open for some R&D, lightening and sound change... but given there are pictures aplenty online there seems little point or value in doing so now and I really can't be bothered LOL I actually purchased this from a BMW parts department (so it actually came with a 2 year warranty (long passed now) LOL) - it came off a customer car with very low km (so they tell me) - the muffler is a little dirty, but it does look to be a low mileage unit. The tips are average as it has been banged around in their warehouse so has a few small dents but nothing too dramatic in my opinion. The flanges on these rot away so I actually coated these in high temp exhaust paint to protect them from corrosion when I got it and they are in perfect condition. $200 take it away.
  7. LOL ... If you do, make sure you have it in the contract that you get it for free if it doesn't make that HP ... Then just sit back and wait for your free motor to arrive.
  8. Sorry mind block .. .S50 : P

Shame this isn't in Auckland ... too many politicians and IRD workers down your way to appreciate what it is : P
  10. Would it be sacrilege to transplant a S50 into it?
  11. I honestly have to say that we as a community is blessed to have real enthusiasts like Ray@HellBM that goes out of his way to help out in the name of experiments and for the greater good of the community as a whole. Thanks Ray for putting this up for experimental purposes!!! TRUE CHAMP!!!

  13. No love for 18s? Perfect track day wheels I might add and loads lighter than the factory OEM 19s if you didn't know!!!! Much better looking wheels than the 19s in my opinion and what these cars were ENGINEERED to run on : )
  14. Time to start messing around with socketing and turning the non HP DMEs into the HP variants : )
  15. Okay ... rather than me trying to import one I thought I'd ask on here just in case there's one kicking about. Have been asked a few times now about these DMEs and EWS removal and seeing I've got the MSS52 and MSS54 fairly sussed out I thought perhaps it is time to move onto a new project. But before I "experiment" with somebody else's conversion kit, I thought it best if I obtain one first to bench test and make sure what I do does in fact work correctly before I even attempt this with another person's property. Whilst the chance of anything going wrong is very low, I do still want that assurance that I can indeed do what I think I am capable of doing!! So ... if you have a reasonably priced MSS50 or MSS50.1 for sale with the DME plug and a diagnostic plug, let me know as I would like to make up a harness like I have done for the MSS52/4 for bench flashing. Thanks all!!!
  16. I know someone with one of these ... awesome cars. Seems a little undervalued if I am not mistaken with the asking price. Surprised.
  17. Is it heat resistant that paint??
  18. Actually I tried to buy one from overseas, but the seller wouldn't even ship locally in the UK to my mate : ( LOL ... if I was putting that in a car I'd agree !!! I've never liked wiring - and unlike you I've still not gotten used to it haha!! Doesn't matter - I am just lazy and am sick of pulling panels off my car to plug in modules for testing ... : P
  19. Preferably from the E46 M3 as I can't be bothered splicing a standard E46 loom. Car loom, no need for the engine side. Should look like this below and include the OBD ports and cluster also.
  20. Cheers ... Not going to glue this one down, the stitching is tied into the stitching on the original leather cover so it's not going anywhere - also I think by not gluing it, it'll allow me to change it later on should I ever be so inclined. Sourced the Alcantara from overseas - Florida to be precise. There are other sources now that are much cheaper I am sure. Seats are easy Jooles ... I am sure you can handle them. I've rebuilt Recaro SR3s before and it was a piece of cake. See above - actually kind of glade I didn't glue it down to be honest - if you use the wrong type of glue it'll soak through the alcantara and make it go rock hard - in my opinion, double sided fabric tape is a better option over gluing. Basically yep. But to be honest I don't actually like this stitching method. Actually it broke in one or two places as I had cut the fabric a little short on one section and I pulled really hard to make it fit a bit better than it would otherwise do - technically if you cut the fabric correctly there shouldn't be high tension on the thread as the lines are simply to hold the fabric in place not used to pull it tight and around the shape it's covering - when you stitch the straight thread you can adjust the tension of the top thread so it has 'give' for threading. Also you don't use cotton threads - it'll just break. I also wasn't too concerned about it breaking as this was more or less an experiment - plus it's easy enough to thread another part in if it broke (which I had to do in two places). I actually rushed through this one as I simply wanted to see how it would look so I wasn't overly concerned if the stitching wasn't perfect - having done it now there are definitely areas that I would improve upon if I did it again. This was more or less to make sure the pattern worked as intended. It's not perfect, but it's fairly usable, so I am just going to use it as it is (actually it's in the car now LOL) - wear it out and redo it again. I might do another one as I do have another steering wheel that I can work on - this time with changes implemented to make it much better.
  21. Infrared keys are infrared ... Radio keys are 433Mhz or 315Mhz (Euro, NZ, Aus vs US and I believe Jap spec) They all have batteries ... some rechargeable some are not.
  22. If you buy those I'd change the Michelins ... he's got Sport Cup on one wheel and Sport Cup+ on another (they are COMPLETELY DIFFERENT TYRES) ... that's like mixing slicks with standard road tyres on the same axle ... Naughty!!
