Is it already manual?

hedgehog.

Everyone should learn in a Model A Ford. No brakes, no power, no handling, no safety, no comfort and no SYNCHROS! At least there's only 3 gears to choose from, and first is only good for walking speed.

It's not unusual for them to idle a little rough (no misfires, just not prefectly even)- when cold. They alter the cam timing at cold idle, and dump in fuel to heat the cats up. It doesn't usually help with the rough idle (unless it really bad!), but I'd suggest getting the Vanos seals done - they're complete crap from new. It's not so noticable in an auto, but it made a MASSIVE difference to our manual. It smoothed out the power, and gave a noticable improvement to low revs responsiveness, plus it was much harder to stall (which was really easy prior to this. Check the DISA valves for rattles, or remove it and check it physically - it's a 3 minute job. A DISA that falls apart can destroy an engine in seconds, and they're not a "lifetime" item either. Don't assume everything has been done, just because it's got "full dealer history" - the dealer only does what the customer pays for, and Kiwis are crap at servicing cars, on average.

Got Pics??? Sounds wierd.

I don't know about the loom plug, but in the engine bay, there was just a rubber line, pointing nowhere. I think it came off a hard line further down the firewall. Somewhere down under the fusebox, just up above the chassis rail. I know nothing more than that, sorry!

When you find out your car isn't the model year you thought...
Allanw replied to Matth5's topic in TradeMe discussions
Suzuki Cappuccinos sat in storage for a bit, while the first batch of NZ new ones were sold here. They were 1993 cars, registered new in 1995. They were registered as 1993 cars. There were a few extras brought in in 1995 to fulfill sales, and they were registered as 1995 cars. Our E39 was built November 2000. It's a facelift 2001 model year per BMW, first registered in january 2001. It's registered as a 2000, the year it was built, NOT the year it was first registered overseas. My VW Beetle is a 1972 1200 "Basic" version. They were very expensive compared to more modern cars available at the time, and sat around. Mine was first registered in 1974, as a new car in NZ. It too, is registered as a 1972 model. As it should be. Dads E30 we just sold, was built April 1990. It was first registered to BMW NZ, NZ new in April 1991. It is also registered as a 1990. Any dealer who registers a car built in 2008, as a 2010 model should be up on some kind of fraud charge. -
Insurance - should all the old cars be worth the same?
Allanw replied to tonylauno1's topic in General Discussion
AMI wouldn't insure the car at agreed value, for what I paid for the last car I brought... It was a prefacelift, in a crossover year, so I had to have it insured for 25% MORE than I paid, if I wanted agreed value DONE! It's all based on numbers, and not details, though I've "discussed" values with the local AMI branch manager, and we've come to values suitable to both of us. They know what they can do, and you know what you want. I can't see it working with a call-centre pleb though. -
Can someone explain the pricing for these 2 M5s?

You should have made one... you still can... -

AMI One proper claim for a break in, and no questions paid out quick as - flawless. They couldn't get a windscreen for my old VW Kombi van, so ordered a genuine one from the dealers, took 2 days from Singapore.

Electrical gremlins in my e39 - PLEASE HELP!
Allanw replied to 535iase1997's topic in Electrical system
The rear door vapour barriers are the most common leak into the cabin, and if under the front seats was wet, and under rear floor carpets will probably be flooded with water too. -
There is some sh*t water around the world. MostNZ tap water far exceeds the BMW secs, last time I saw someone look into it. It you have super hard water, or need to use a water softener or any additional plant for cleaning it up, then avoid it, but generally it's fine (what do you think garages use?) The more "pure" water is, the less metal like it - RO (Reverse Osmosis) water dissolves metal, as water is "hungry" and will dissolve (not corrode) anything it can.

Only the flies get me rarked up! I ran out of flyspray, so I had to start using air freshener (and a lighter ). Only one noticable scorchmark, but I got the little a**hole (and over 70 of his mates). Got some more of those sticky paper things from china last night . The joys of country living!

First person to put their foot on my bumper gets a punch in the face and a bonnet dropped on their head. PS - dude with the Prado: Trying as hard as he can to get it to sink. Best place for a whale - bottom of the sea.

I use a little local compnay. I have a radio wireless connection. I had a fault. THEY called ME and asked if it was OK to send a Tech out to replace the antenna/router, before I got home from work. It was all done before I got home

Watch the fan doesn't disintegrate at high revs though:
