  1. Genuine Michael-Sports? Maybe they previously owned English cars, and didn't realise you could use a car in the rain???
  2. Is it just me, or does it look like someone siliconed that on??? It's wrong anyway - you need to get the bolt in, before it stuffs the crankshaft. Radiator only takes about 10 mins to get out, but the bolt is tightened to some quite impressive torque : From memory: 2 really fat guys on a long breaker bar, or if you're built like I think you are, you and 4 mates It's actually 410 NM: I used a 1" drive socket set and torque wrench (no!, nobody can borrow it, no it's not mine), WITH a nearly 2M pole on, and the crank pulley holding tool was pushing on the garage floor - it lifted the car a surprising height from the force involved.
  3. E39's only had the 4.4. The cc's were probably entered by the dealers on first rego... Just buy it anyway - if for nothing else, to burn that beige and brown interior!
  4. Well, our first one lasted 14 years, so the replacement should be roughly as good None of the repairers I spoke with inspired any confidence.
  5. Whent he exchange rate was better, I got a brand new unit for NZ$480? or $580? from mafshop.de
  6. But if I gave it to you, I'd have an empty spot... and they're labelled! x3... 4 if you count me , and you probably should. We have a 15mm spanner in the kitchen utensil drawer They don't even have cars yet - Solomon is 5 and a half, so it'll be at least 4 years before he'll get one Moe is too conservative. They're not even allowed guns until they're 12!
  7. So Auto-incorrect? See - manual is Sooooooo much better
  8. Woohoo... Cleaning out the garage, and found my 11/32 socket ... WTF will I ever use it for??? Probably won't even fit on the Model A. So far it's only ever been used for filling the space in the set...
  9. He put that on the front grille, because the original 2.0 XL sticker was already in the "correct" ///M badge spot.... I had a spare one after I took it off the E39, so I made good use of it:
  10. Sorry - I can't really help either, but... It might work... but you'd really have to know what trans is in what car, and that can vary by the market it was made for. You could look them up by chassis number, and see what they should have had, on RealOem or similar. You also have to be a bit careful, because the Japs had a 525i which was really a 523i, and wasn't like the M54 525i at all. There were the M52 engines, AND the M52TU's. I couldn't tell you the differences about the trans, but very early E39's are just about an entirely different car to the late ones, from an electronics point of view. Some of the transmission codes changed, JUST because they went from proper oil changes, to "sealed for life" - even though the trans might be functionally exactly the same, there is no dipstick etc. It's a hard call to make without being REALLY sure. It's a lot of work to fit a used trans, then discover that some guy you don't know, who said it was going to work, was wrong... on the internet... practically never happens Find a manual box and cram that in

    Quick rant thread.

Shut up Glenn. I helped a guy manhandle his boat trailer out of the drian across from our house... he misjudged the driveway width. He dropped me off a crayfish, and I ate practically all of it myself
  13. I buy the vast majority of BMW parts from Paul. Even genuine stuff I want from the dealer!

  20. Allanw

    uh oh...

And you brought the M5 for it's ecconomy, ease of maintenance, and the low costs of it's parts... Get some transformer oil, and fill it up :-) Oil cooled actuators A few Electric Bike guys have done it, and lower temps/increased motor life (they can do 50MPH in a few seconds... on a push bike, so it's a fair bit of heat created)
  21. I thought it was like the E30 ones - the actual plastic handle breaks at the pin mounts. Just put a new one in Dads E30.
  22. Well done... to her really, not you Congrats... I've got 3 boys... "noise with dirt on"!
  23. After locking, "short press" the lock button again???
