The white 540i looks a very good buy on paper. The other one not so much at 200K+ kms and those ridiculous M6 20" wheels... Not that you're actually going to buy anything, you're just going to talk about buying... Forever.

Stainless steel brake lines in, new pads and rotors to come soon. There's a good reason I'm beefing up the brakes. Will reveal all in the next few weeks. Finally got round to removing the deadweight (Jap GPS and nav) in the boot.

To me probably!

I like the Alpinas. Would love a B10 V8!! Kit's right for standard LCI (non-motorsport). Priced about right for those kms, though I'd personally look for a motorsport and pay an extra $1-2K for similar mileage.

What can possibly go wrong?

I'd probably look for a dye rather than a spray so that the fabric absorbs it rather than it sitting on the surface.

I did say that I accept it may well be BS!! However, I do stand by the fact that they're built like tanks so there's potentially to walk away from some pretty bad scrapes but as you say, you can't beat physics.

Fair enough. A guy brought an E61 M5 touring to our dyno day. He reckoned he rarely got more than 150kms out of a tank of gas thanks to stop/start traffic in Auckland, so I feel your pain! An E9X M3 will be better on fuel at least... Not sure how much better but definitely better than the V10!

Good commitment, Martin. Hope mine last a bit longer... That looks like a major PITA.

I can look after the 540 wagon if it's getting too crowded. -
Sh*t. Sorry to hear that but glad you're okay. I've no idea whether it's true but someone told me recently that no-one has ever died in an accident whilst driving an E39. I accept that may be BS but they're definitely built like tanks. Yours was a great example, a real shame that it met a grisly end but I hope you can find another good one. I'd hang onto any salvageable parts until you've found a replacement. You might find a good car but want your m-sport trim, for example. Good luck and once again, glad you're okay.

You're all assuming he's actually got some money and isn't just a trolling tyre kicker.

Love those Fords eh, Scott?!

Didn't you buy an F10 M5 last year some time, Raj? Have you sold it or adding to your collection?

Very cool. You're probably familiar with Andre Govia's work - he takes amazing pictures of abandoned and forgotten buildings... http://www.flickr.com/photos/andregovia/

Excuse my ignorance but could guts of the large case diff fit an E39 diff?
-
Yep. Not sure if it works in low OBD but definitely in high (the one with LED readout only not the little pic of the car). Here are unlock instructions and list of hidden menu items. Coolant temp is Test #7. http://www.bimmerboard.com/forums/posts/129948

Spotted a couple of good looking E39s today. The anthracite grey 530i looked especially good, though the M5 looked very good (not sure if it's the same one that was for sale recently... If it is, the new owner has definitely spruced it up a bit!).

I know a couple of guys that have had high value cars pro wrapped to a good standard in Auckland. Will see if I can get recommendations. Might also be worth PMing Tristan, I think he was looking into it for his E92 M3 so he may have done some research. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Apart from being horrendously ugly, especially with that F&F bodykit, it looks a good deal. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Hard for me to say. Usually when I buy a new car I know what I want so I just wait for the right one to come along. If I had to pick between an E36 328i and an E46 330ci then my first concern would be which has been looked after best and has a service history. I prefer the shape of the 330ci but they're common as muck... In fact, if it was silver I couldn't buy it no matter how good it was unless I had the cash to paint it or wrap it... There are just too goddamn many silver E46 coupes. But a well-maintained E36 is much rarer and still a great looking car. My advice - decide what you want and wait for a decent one at the right price. Don't get suckered into buying something else. You'll regret it and sell it before the year's out.

Building a new exhaust, Mike? I thought yours was sounding great or are you after a few more ponies?
