  1. Today I replaced these which were stuffed. Then I replaced this which bolts on. With this which has push button release. And it started to rain so thats all for today.
  2. 23rd August 2015 Finished replacing the spark plugs on the RH bank. What a mess. Looks like i'm up for rocker cover gaskets very soon. Oil everywhere. Cleaned it up for now. Just glad the miss I had yesterday is sorted for now. Spark plug connector boots are stuffed and wrapped in electrical tape so need to be replaced as well.
  3. 22nd August 2015 Was going to leave the 740 alone today and do other stuff but on the way into town it started running rough. Turned around and came home. The plastic corrugated pipe that runs from the MAF to the throttle body had broken around the throttle body so I replaced that. Didn't help. Figured out it was missing on the left bank so proceeded to replace the spark plugs. Realized the plastic cover over the spark plugs had become brittle where it bolts down and had broken around the bolts so when I cleaned the engine bay yesterday it had let water seep in. Replaced the spark plugs anyway as they looked like they'd all seen better days. Ran out of time today so will do the right side tomorrow. Cars running sweet again. Phew.
  4. 21st August 2015 Replaced these. Groomed the engine bay. And groomed the interior. Leather cleaned up nice using Oakwoods leather cleaner.
  5. 19th August 2015 Did a bit more today replacing the cracked wood trim in the front doors and center console. Out with the old. In with the new. Pulled this out of the spare parts car. A bit scratched but still in better shape the the original. Sanded to 2000 grit then went looking for my small buffing wheel and couldn't find it so out with the brasso then a fine cutting compund and this was the result.
  6. 18th August 2015 Replaced this which has been broken for over a year and has pissed me off every time I looked at it. With this.It has the PDC sensors but it's still a heck of an improvement over the broken one. Then I turned this Into this.
  7. I decided to start this log because of all the work I've been doing to the 740i and there's a lot more to come so instead of posting it in the "What did you do today" thread I'll post it here and keep a log for myself. Decided my daily driver needs a refresh before I seriously get stuck into the 750i. Coming up will be new shocks and some suspension work. It's been about 15 years since I last painted a car but I'm thinking about putting it in the shed and doing a bit of body work then a full repaint in the same color. As is to be expected with a 20yr old car the body has seen better days. Couple of small dents and a lot of scratches and chips. It'll be good practice before I do the repaint on the 750i. 14th August 2015 Replaced this with this pulled these out and put these in so now this stays closed. yayyy

    Quick rant thread.

Got told off by the Police this morning for moving road cones at road works. Two weeks ago they dig up a trench about 50 meters long in one of the main roads leading into Wanganui and finished laying pipe. Then back filled and topped off with that fine shell rock. Since then nothing has been done except the put road cones out to direct traffic flow to drive over their roadworks to compact it. FFS, there are machines for this. It's been bugging me having to drive over it anyway but after the work I've done grooming the 740i in the last week I get down there this morning and they've put another layer of that fine shellrock down and the soaked it in water so it's a friggin mess. I could see the cars in front spraying it everywhere off its tires. So off to the left there's a section of road wide enough for a truck to drive on thats clear of their dirty work except they put their road cones on it to force traffic out into the middle. I get out and move the road markers to clear this bit of road and when I turn around to go back to my car there's the Police waiting for me. They made me put them back. I elected to turn around and take the motorway bridge and drive down the other side of the river then cross back over the Dublin st bridge to the side I needed to be on. Why should we be forced to drive our cars over their roadworks to compact the ground cause they're to cheap to use the proper machinery????
  11. A bit more love for the 740i. Replaced these. Groomed the engine bay. And groomed the interior. Leather cleaned up nice using Oakwoods leather cleaner.
  12. Spotted a Black F10 at the lights today and when I pulled up along side there was a little grey haired old lady in the drivers seat. Hate to say it but my first thought was "that cars wasted on you". She looks over and sees me looking and gives me a smile. Lights turn green and I'm left eating her exhaust. Smoked at the lights by a 70 year old lady. Not cool. Hope she had a good laugh about it. I did..

  16. It seems the 740 is getting a bit of a make over. Did a bit more today replacing the cracked wood trim in the front doors and center console. Out with the old. In with the new. Have you thought about lowering springs? Would be a more comfortable ride than coil-overs and a whole lot cheaper too. The 740i has lowering springs in the front on the EDC struts. Been running on it like that for almost 4 years with no problems. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BMW-7-Series-728i-E38-94-01-Kilen-Sport-Lowering-Springs-Kit-914488-/231115741323 http://www.ebay.com/itm/H-R-BMW-7-Series-E38-728i-730i-725TDS-06-94-50mm-Lowering-Springs-/231003219727

Dude. That's stunning. Luving those wheels and the color. Wouldn't mind a set of those for the 750.

You should post up some pics anyway. My 750i is still sitting stock..lol Though not for much longer I think..

  22. What a score. I like it. Manual too. Very nice.
  23. Funny coming from someone with that signature pic.
  24. http://bimmersport.co.nz/topic/52424-quick-rant-thread/?p=578759 Today my Neighbor came over to be nosy about the work I was doing in the back paddock and to her credit when I explained that the Willow trees from her property had grown their roots through the run off for the septic tank she was very apologetic and straight away asked if she could pay a share of the costs. How nice was that? So nice I thanked her for the offer and said it wasn't necessary. Not often in this day and age people are so forthcoming. Made my day.
