  1. Segedins or from Autoquip in the same building?
  2. I sort of agree. I in no way shape or form expect 200hp/litre from my M10 (which is just a 4 cylinder M30), unless I upgrade the cam and rockers and run a big honking turbo. I wouldn't be happy regularly sending 25psi into it. So I am going to stick with standard cam and rockers and run a smaller turbo and if I get 150hp/litre It'd be happy days. Will be satisfied with 125hp/litre and up (ie 250hp). Bear in mind 150hp/litre in an M30 is >500hp. That's a whole lotta power...

So didya clean the brakes like you promised in the first post?
  4. Very cool I half wish my clutch would start slipping so I could change the flywheel. Apparently its been changed before though so I am not holding my breath. I don't doubt your car would now give an M3 a run for its money. You'd have to work the M3 hard to be faster, since its probably only the extra 1500rpm where the extra power is. I'd be lying if I said I regularly revved my car over 4-5k. Its not safe in the city.
  5. Wind up the windows? Wife's Skoda (LOL) whistles when its spools. So did her Golf before that.
  6. Did I hear my name called? I am LOLing. Its a pretty ummm, interesting and rare colour. Is it good? I guess it is. Most days I like the colour of my car. Some day's I look at it and am all "WTF". Anyway, this is a thread about buying tasty tools and hardware and other consumables from a bunch of nice people down in Westhaven who are generously offering a discount. So go down there and buy some.
  7. Yep that's me - ol' ginger (the car, not me). Sam knows who I am. I also have a race car that is in the AES class (well, would be if it was going).

    E36 M3

Silver one was for sale when I bought mine ... a year ago. Similar price too I think.
  9. Why shouldn't he put forth his opinion? FWIW, Crockett told Drphta that his car was worth $6k when he was trying to sell it for $10k plus 6 months ago. 2-3 weeks ago, the car sold for ... $6k. I reckon Mr Crockett has a pretty good eye for these things.
  10. These guys have an awesome selection of hardware too, stainless and plated, metric and imperial. Huge thumbs up from me
  11. Haha, tell us how you really feel. Now you mention it though, I have seen similar criticisms over the internets before.
  12. Before spending $5k on anything, please follow up on this classified advert: http://www.bmwclub.co.nz/market-place/540.html My 2c, based on research for the mechanically almost identical 4 cylinder M10 - unless you plan on revving over 6500rpm and changing to a long duration, high lift cam, you don't need the rockers. Shotpeened standard rods will be fine for 100hp/cylinder or more, easy. I bought rocker locks largely because they make it easier to install the rockers. ARP studs - I dunno. I have gone for standard M10 headbolts for now. I might go for ARP if I have any problems. I have had my block o-ringed and will use a standard headgasket.
  13. That is a good price - good on ya. You should have backlash and some other stuff I don't entirely understand checked (at a minimum) when swapping over a diff centre.

    1990 318iS Turbo

I'd give anything short of my first child for this. Unfortunately, said first child is due shortly, and my wife says I can't buy it. Dammit.

Not true - have a look at the WOF manual: http://www.landtransport.govt.nz/certifier...ral-10-v3a4.pdf Page 6.

    FS M50B25 Engine

Non-vanos out of a ??? A better question - does it have the right sump to fit an E30.
  17. Have you considered cleaning yours, LOL.* * Please note - JiB has not once in his ownership cleaned his car. Never.

    m20 rebuild cost?

Not a GT25 anything - way too small. If a GT28, at least a GT2871. A GT3071 costs the same as a GT2871 (and same size compressor wheel anyway), so I'd consider that the minimum if buying new.
  19. PM JiB and ask him - he didn't have any problems (in a 2 door).

    m20 rebuild cost?

With the bigger capacity, yes definitely. Would then need a remap... so more monies.

    m20 rebuild cost?

The answer's probably still $2k (full gasket kit + bearings and rings and some machine work), plus the cost of the crank and getting a special spacer made up. I'll assume you can find M20B20 rods for close to nothing(!) - see the link. http://www.msportster.co.uk/faq.asp?FAQ=25 The problem as I am finding with "as little professional hours as possible" is that the amount you need is inversely proportional to your own ability. Mine always seems to be lacking. Any mods or freshen up of the head will cost more again.
  22. Good work on the write-up! Make sure you report back on how it feels too.
  23. You'd only be 13% less depressed with a B20, unless its turbo-ified.

    engine mount

Its easy with an engine crane... I haven't tried with a jack but I'd be very careful.
  25. E28 and E30 medium case are the same case - you swap the rear cover and output shafts. Medium case have 6 bolts around the bearing retainer on the side, small case have 4. You swap over the guts if you want to keep your existing ratio. JiB's lines came from Mal Clark at Bygone Autos, ph 483 3991.
