Ouch BMW must have bumped prices up big time.
-
How many grinding wheels have ya gone through ?
-
Brand new dust boot is $35 from BMW last time I bought one.
-
I'm sorry, but I thought engines are normally placed in the engine bay? Edit: Lovin the work by the way!
-
Are you changing suspension before you complete the cert?
-
Cheers David (and Gavin) for price info!
-
Big grin anyone? Top stuff man.
-
Hey Ollie what sort of price do they charge per line? Just out of curiosity!
-
The 731 head doesn't have double valve springs, that's the 885 head. Also, I recommend picking up the new parts from, rings, bearings etc etc from our sponsor EuroItalian, great quality, and it will be cheaper.
-
Good idea, done.

Perfect, then all you need is the "200" casting. Edit: Thanks Jeddy after a while everything merges into one number and I forget everything haha.

1900 - Thats one old e30!

Ive done a motor conversion, what exactly are you doing here? Building a 2.7 stroker, rebuilding a stock 2.7, or rebuilding a stock 2.5 Stroker - you need either the b20 or b25 head. (The casting for the b20 escapes me at present I think it is *231* and the casting for the b25 is *288* For a stock 2.7 rebuild you will need the *200* casting head. For a stock 2.5 rebuild you will need the *288* head. There is a difference between all these heads. The *200* has the smallest ports, soft valves, etc etc to stop the motor from reving past a certain RPM. This is the 2.7 head. The *231* has bigger ports, stiffer valves etc etc. This is the 2.0 head. (This head can be used in conjunction with a b27 block without issue as both the *200* and *231* heads share the same combustion chamber design. The *288* head is the best of the lot, it has a largest ports, double valve springs, and better gear in general. This is the 2.5 head. This head also has a different combustion chamber design and corresponds with the 325 pistons, they are dished and domed, and the head corresponds with this. When building the stroker most people use a combination of 325 pistons, with b27 block and 325 (288) head.

You want a b25 or b27 head? These are very different heads. I have a cracked "885" (325) head here, all the gear, cam, rockers, valves are currently out of the head.

Max - I once pulled apart an entire motor just to get one dowel because I was too impatient to wait for the cylinder head that was getting tested to get back ! (It had a dowel stuck in it) haha.

Good afternoon all! I'm looking for a sunroof panel as mine is getting so so bad. I do not need a mint one, and by that I mean the panel can have small spots or bubbles, but the mounts etc must be fine. I don't care about colour, preferably cheap would be good! I need to have the seal that comes with it too. Thanks everybody!

Whoa whoa whoa! Thats hilarious. Talk about DIY!

I've done 2 swaps too both using the original starter...?
-
Have you put it all back together already? If you have just give it another go, it could be that it was miss-aligned and during the removal and re-installation of all the components you sorted the problem without realizing.
-
Sounds like you have an alignment issue with the starter motor. All starter motors are inter-changeable between m20's, some have a small housing and some have a large but they are all essentially the same. There's no "Auto" vs "Manual" starter motor. I'd say pull it out, try re-install, if no luck your going to have to drop the gearbox again. I forget exactly but did you install the spacer between the motor and the flywheel?
-
Its never really a finish though is it? It will never be 100%, I know I always always think of more things to do to my car haha. But fantastic none the less.
-
What a finish! Well done matey. Congratulations.
-
I do believe it is irrelevant once you have completed your full license your allowed to drive both. I think the manual/auto restriction only applies to restricted. (I could be wrong of course)

No... this wont work quite that easily if I'm reading the title correctly. Pre-facelift 325i = Motronic 1.1 Face-lift 320i = Motronic 1.3 The pre facelift 325 motor uses two pickups attached to the gearbox bell housing, and the 240 will not have these, and neither will your current wiring loom. Your current loom in the 320 will be using the no.6 spark plug sensor and the front crank angle sensor instead. You will need the complete loom and ECU from the 325i motor as well as the gearbox with the pickups. You can modify your 240 to fit these sensors also but its not worth the time and effort to make it work. (The issue is not physical fitment of the box itself, but the sensors, all m20 boxes are inter-changeable in that respect) As mentioned above, you will need the AFM, intake, exhaust etc also. If it were a FACELIFT 325 motor there would be no modification required, the only difference would be a 325 ecu as opposed to 320. EDIT: UNLESS of course you intend to convert the 325i motor from Motronic 1.1 to 1.3 using the loom you have, then all will work well, all you will need to do is swap the toothed crank pulley from your 320 onto the 325 and install the sensors and plug it all up (and install all the 325 bits, ecu, intake, afm etc etc), then it will all work, including your gearbox. (I'm unsure of your intentions though so yeah)
