    HOSTGE

Car looks great, good to see a p/fl and the new suspension bits will set it off perfectly. Love Hartges! You don't just happen to have a fuel injection relay (nine pin with the numbers 5WK2244) available from one of those cars? I need one to get our M10 318 running properly. It's stock standard at present and staying that way for the next 6 months or more as we have other projects to complete.
  6. Have a bottle cap wheel and bolts here in Christchurch, PM me or ctc me on 0274576909. Cheers Don
  7. I am no expert but i suspect that those bushes need replacing again. They will have worked pretty hard especially as you say the suspension is soft and the ride is wallowy. The suspension is normally softish but not that bad in the 323 so perhaps the springs are no longer up to spec and that combined with aging shocks will be working the bushes that much harder. I have KYB shocks in mine and have just put some Jamex springs in, which have not only lowered the car but also stiffened the suspension and ride up noticably. Cornering is no longer quite the drama it was and no more floating!
  8. After a fuel relay for a 1985 318 with the M10 engine. This fuel relay sits next to the fuse box is the size of 2 matchboxes and has 9 round pins. Part no. on it 5wk2244. Anyone know of an early E30 318 in Christchurch that could be a donor? Cheers Don
  9. I like this, - much better than I expected
  10. Having had both single and twin turbo Subarus as well as a 318i and now an E21 my opinion is that you have to love the BMWs for their style and looks, forget performance. The lLegacy will give you that rush everytime you floor the accelerator, none of the BMWs you mention can match that. Keep the Legacy (unless it is about to die) and save up for a BMW. Test drive the BMWs first and leave for a few days then make a decision. All the best!

    Front seats

I have a pair of standard coupe E36 seats in grey fabric, from memory they are virtually unmarked. Should have the matching rear fold down seats somewhere too. Make an offer or PM me to view and discuss. Cheers Don
  12. My suggestion would be: Picton to Blenhiem then through to Nelson, up to Golden Bay, Then in order: Murchison Springs Junction Westport Greymouth The Glaciers Haast Wanaka Queenstown Tour to Milford (by bus, includes boat) great road, but lots of tourists driving on the wrong side of the road! Queenstown Cromwell Omarama Mt Cook Tekapo Christchurch Kaikoura Picton. You do miss out on the Lewis and Arthurs passes - great roads great scenery, but can be done from Christchurch, say up to the Lewis down to Greymouth and then back via Arthurs
  13. European diesels are just as quick, if not quicker than their petrol equivalents. They have so much grunt the auto is the only way to go. I would have driven every BMW diesel available in NZ along with all the Ford diesels smaller than the Transit and am constantly impressed by the torque. An auto diesel on a trip is great, smooth, powerful and economical. Having said that, at this stage I could not live with one - not a big enough rev range, unpleasant as a manual, and a ratshit exhaust noise - least as a daily driver. At one stage last year a salesman at BMW told me that more than 50% of the new BMWs sold in NZ are diesels. So all in all they are the way to go for the present, next up will be hydrogen, hybrids and electric cars.

    bleeding slave

Check your methodolgy. could it be that you have a split hose between the master and slave? and so maybe nothing wrong with the slave?
  15. Nice car, i have known this car since new and it has been looked after with a good service history and driven well but never thrashed. Good buy and a great car. Enjoy, get yourself onto a BMW drivers day and see why you bought a BMW.
  16. Welcome Tony, the E28s are great, we had a 525e for a while,-smooth, quiet, soft ride and torquey and I should think the 528 will be that much better. Look forward to seeing what you do with it!
  17. Is anyone wrecking an E36 in Christchurch? After a secondhand power steering pump for an E36 320 (1992) - can anyone help please, my arms are getting very tired! Also after a grey fabric drivers door card (4 door) or at least the top slots that fit onto the clips on the door just below the window. I'm also needing an exterior drivers door mirror, the motor has packed up on mine. I could continue but the above will do for the present! Cheers Don
  18. http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=262055799 Yeh, I got me one these, but on my car, my gearchange plate has the bearing shell cup (the blue bit on the trademe shifter) welded to it, I checked on my E36 and it's the same. Matty 104 is yours the same as the trademe one? if so how did you fit it? Mine was bought in CHCH and I have marked it removing the blue bit to see if the rest of the trademe shifter would fit into the welded in bearing shell cup, so it is unlikely that the guy would give a refund. Looking at RealOem and the Haynes manual it seems that the cup is a permanent part of the gearchange plate.
  19. After a complete E30 short shifter, which would include the nylon/plastic bearing shells and bushes. Would prefer new.
  20. I had read somewhere that the distance in a straight line from the lowest point of a 17inch rim up through the centre of the wheel to the guard lip on a M-spec E36 should be 550mm, -mine checks out.

    How fast are you?

Varied each time I tested it, not by much though.
  22. Congratulations on securing a rare beast. Love the colour. The link is very useful, with pretty fair prices. Will be interested in hearing how the seat repair goes as we have a similar problem that my wife has ignored and still ignores!
  23. Robyn, the 1.9 Z3 manual is a pretty good little car, that engine appears in many BMW models, all heavier than the Z3. I think they do go well, handle pretty well too. My wife has had a 1.9 manual Z3 for the last three years and now has racked up 160,000kms. She uses it as a daily and it takes all the supermarket shopping for 4 adults. I f you find one you like get it checked out at Jeff Gray BMW, cost used to be about $120 and will give you peace of mind and/or ammunition to negotiate a more attractive price. This may well help when getting a warranty. All the best.
  24. I had a similar problem which turned out to be one of the U joints on the steering shaft coupling packing up or maybe that plastic spacer/disc is knackered. Try jacking both front wheels off the ground and with the engine off, turn lock to lock and see if the steering gets stiffer at some point if so then it could be one of the U joint couplings.
