  3. Curiously, what tyre pressures you running, the bigger the profile the more variance you're going to get. Also what exactly was wrong with the odometer test at Ramarama, was your odo out or your GPS out?
  4. Off topic but after getting fed up with Ihug's interleaving (causes latency constantly over 200ms although not as bad as xtra's 2000ms) we're switching to Telstra's high speed triple package (phone, inet, sky)...actually saves us a packet and being close to the Seaview exchange will give response times closer to 15ms - [borat]very nice[/borat]
  5. Me vote no. Firstly, it's not internet speed, it's bandwidth and for the infrastructre NZ has we have damn good internet and for those lucky enough to live in the fine capital we have the luxury of cable. Sure the top end packages are pricey but do you really need it? Live in your means and don't expect to get continental performance from a small sparsely populated country. Who gives a crap about all that sh*t BBC stuff we don't get here anyway? My only beef with NZ's internet is the lack of VoIP options, we don't need landlines anymore, get rid of them and go VoIP - far better call quality. And you're a muppet if you think NZ has the best tasting chocolate in the world.
  6. I've got the superlows in an E30 and like it
  7. Sounds like the XP installer is your prob, try using a SP2 disc, Vista, or switch to ubuntu!
  8. Austrlia went 10% last month so should be a little more info there. I'm sure I read Europe was using 35% blends somewhere and were trying to go higher, also read our cars will run on the 35% blend as would most it's just what will happen over time. The problems with higher ethonal blends is valve deposits, corrosion, separation in the tank, and the different air/fuel mix. Corrosion shouldn't be a problem as you add inhibitors, separation is a quality/time thing. Air/fuel mix should get picked up by the O2 sensoe. Deposits are a pain more because ethanol being a good solvent dissolves all the sh*t in the tank and lines so wouldn't this affect an older car since it's got more sh*t in it to begin with? 2c
  9. So let me confirm, you boot from XP cd and use F6 to load the SATA drivers for your M/B off the floppy and you are able to partition and format the full 320GB (using NTFS I hope) and then it proceeds to install windows but on the reboot the OS doesn't boot off the disk?
  10. Sounds like BIOS isn't setup correctly. Ensure you're NOT mapping the sata drive through an IDE port, make sure it's using a SATA port. Install the nvidia media storage application if you don't have that already and also update the nforce M/B sata drivers if you haven't already. If the install can't read your floppy disk it's probably not formatted correctly. Pays to ALWAYS reformat FD's before use especially if you've just gone and purchased it.

    Broadband ISP?

Stay away from both Xtra and Slingshot - especially if you want to play games as their response times can exceed 2 seconds on a regular basis. Orcon and Xnet are your best options (since you're in Auckland). Both have the best service and are good for gaming. Be be sure to read their ISP subscription policies. I suggest you go look at www.geekzone.co.nz for some more qualified discussions on the topic. E: Ah, we use LinkSys (Cisco) Gigabit switches and routers (1 wired and 1 wireless), they are good and never had issues.
  12. Jesus, you've been a very busy boy since I saw you last...no messing around that's for sure, must be those cold dunedin nights
  13. Lodge is booked August 17-19
  14. Simple - just buy a 4 ohm resistor from any electrical shop - but be sure to get reasonable one that can handle the wattage otherwise it'll blow up in spectacular style - god I loved university

    Internet Speeds

    Haha, using the Auckland server

    Internet Speeds

Note that different ISP's have different global providers so can affect downloads from different regions, look at the ISP chart for info ISP Topology

    DVD Ripping

NZ Copyright law -> http://www.med.govt.nz/templates/Page____24852.aspx#P15_970 My understanding is that there is an ammendment bill on the way which will make this exetremely illegal

    DVD Ripping

Well taking what Andy said before into account, I redid that last rip without altering aspect or size and it took less than an hour...f**k. HDD space may be cheap but avi files will play through our MVP, ISO or VOB files don't so we have to stick with avi files.

    DVD Ripping

Recoding just the main movie strips off all the crap you don't want, no need to keep menus / adverts / chinese / or non DTS audio now is there

    DVD Ripping

Note that you're seriously infringing upon copyright laws if you need to crack the CSS on a DVD. If you need to crack CSS then use DVD Decrypter to create an ISO image, load the ISO image as virtual drive (DaemonTools or Nero ImageDrive etc) then use a ripper (NO1 DVD Ripper) to create the avi using what ever codec (divx, xvid) you've got installed. E: My original P4 2.4 PC used to take 6-7 hours to rip a DVD to avi, did one on Sunday using a new PC I just built and it took less than 2 hours for a 2.5 hour movie to divx at 640x480 7/10 quality - this was prior to setting up the overclocking as I didn't have the good PSU at the time. [l33t] AMD 64 X2 5600+ (+14% o/clock ~ 3.2 GHz) nVidia M57-S4 mobo (+22% bus o/c's ~ PCI-E @ 2.85 GHz) 2GB Crucial CL4 DDR-2 (+14% o/c ~ 912 MHz) nVidia 8800 GTS o/c'd 2x WD SE16 320GB SATA2 in Raid 0 config =640GB drive Enermax Liberty 620w PSU Gigabyte case with some serious thoughts about cooling All on Gigabit ethernet [/l33t] Old P4 3GHz machine is now running Ubuntu Linux. It's my backup and media centre.
  23. Staying O/T ppl I actually want Helen to stay PM as she is the best politician in the house hands down and IMO she is what's getting labour through. I just don't see John being mature enough in the role to be a leader of this country, just yet, or anyone else for that matter. Our leader must be someone that had a liquid tongue and a sharp sense for politics who won't mess up on the international stage. Personally I'd rather we had a capitalist right wing government as i'd benefit more but our socialist government for all its spending works. Which party has in the past sold off all the assets that turned this country from 1st world to 3rd world??? Telecom and the railways should never have been sold off. SOE's work better for us, they at least care about the infrastructure and all their profits stay here and don't go offshore, privatising is stupid, greed is stupid. Our health system was top notch, now it's sh*t and I pay $26 a fortnight for private health.
  24. It suits facelift cars more so than the pre facelift so do it. I'd go chrome but there's so many other people that have already gone chrome i'm going to stack black.
