And now for something completely different....
E30 325i Rag-Top replied to westy's topic in TradeMe discussions
Bimmersport, home of NZ's BMW style police Preserving the standards of BMWs for those that don't know any better!Unfotunately I can see quite a few of these selling! Probably in a package deal with cut springs and 19" Chromies -
An E30 M3 is pretty much the pinnacle of BMW ownership, so that's a pretty good place to start! Plus that is an immaculate example, hats off to you sir!

E30 318e/2? New & dont have a clue...lol
E30 325i Rag-Top replied to demonic_toy's topic in General Discussion
Good choice in looking at E30s, the downside is that whatever one you choose it is going to be around 20 years old, and things will go wrong in some way or other. If you a dependant on having a car, then it might let you down at some point. The up side of that is that there is a very active BMW community, through this site and others, which is very good for parts and advice, etc. Quite a few Hamilton members on here as well, and I'm pretty sure most would be keen to help a lady with her car troubles. Even if this particular car isn't the right one for you, there will be a good E30 out there that you can buy. -
Looks niiiceee... track it!! You know you want to....

Your dad is quite right, steer well clear of old pajero's! Ok if you just want to toodle about in them and take it to the beach now and again, but if you want to two 2000kg+ regularly then you need to look at something newer and better (this is the bitter voice of experience speaking here!!).I have been looking at the Nissan Navara's recently, not brand new, more around the 2002 age, some reasonably priced and pretty rugged from what I have heard.

^^ Nu-del's 323i would be a good base to build a week-end racer up on, a bit rough around the edges but sound underneath, plus a manual which is always good!

I hope they were of a better quality than this effort... Although this one does look pretty convincing I must admit.. This, though, was the kind of effort I was originally referring to.. an F50 no less on a Fiero body.. I mean come on, how many people are going to think that kind of fitment and quality would come from the factory?? This joker is even trying to sell the car as an F50 replica, come on, please it should be advertised as a Fiero with a poor taste body kit that wont fool anyone! /OT back to original topic..
-
A very impressive replica, as you say it does look very well made, and also looks VERY close to the real thing. Those MR2 & Pontiac Fiero replicas just make me laugh - they look nothing like the actual car and are just an embarassing cheap copy, that doesn't have 1/10th the performance. This would have some go, and by the looks of the engineering some pretty good handling as well. But, no matter how good it goes, I think you would always find yourself thinking "I wish I had a REAL one.." if you could afford one, I don't think you would worry about crashing it..
-
I don't think it really mattered that the car was an E30, I would be surprised if any car managed to keep its passengers safe in an impact like that, at that speed with a truck. Drive any car fast enough and dangerously enough and it will result in loss of life.Blame the driver, not the car.

Ollie, you really do seem to have a lot of anger for one so young? You should wait until you are a miserable old git like me to have such issues (please don't give me another warning oh powerful one!!)I refuse to go to my nearest petrol station (Gull) as their pumps are always on pre-paid, even during the middle of the day. Late on a saturday night, fair enough, middle of the day on a Wednesday, why?? My worst pre-paid nightmare - wanted to fill the tank on a Land Cruiser - can only go up to $100, but I need more than that, well you''ll have to do it in two lots (wtf??) For the second fill, I had over estimated how much room was left, so had to go back AGAIN to get a refund of the difference, so in total three trips to the cashier for one fill of fuel, excellent Funniest / scariest moment at the service station, looking for the cashier so I could pay and leave, eventually found her outside by the pumps having a fag! "Do you think that's a good idea?" says me, "But I don't get any breaks and can't smoke inside" says her. Well Ok then, go ahead and risk blowing us all to bits!

Would be very interested in the E30 M3s, any pics and idea of price? Still waiting for confirmed price on postage for the M3 Art Car pictures please??

^^ I saw the RS500 over at Manfield a couple of years back for the MG Classic meet. At first I thougt it was a very good replica of the Texaco cars, then when I found out it was a genuine Eggenberger car with history I nearly fell over. Shame they never took it onto the track though....

Is trademe Full of Utter Time Wasters?
E30 325i Rag-Top replied to M3_guy's topic in TradeMe discussions
The internet is a wonderful place, it gives a voice to every idiot's opinion! At Bimmersport we are fortunate that the number of GCs completely outweighs the cyber-warriors, with TradeMe that is not always the case., as these listings show. It is unfortunate that there seems to be a number of users on TM that want to wreck any auction for an upmarket car, including BMWs. -
At the risk of Ollie's wrath, thought I would post up a link to my TradeMe auction for any Bimmersport audio / cinephiles that might appreciate a high-end DVD player. http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=286300338 I had the player up and running last night as a demo for one of the bidders and remembered what a great sounding player it is, almost wanted to withdraw the auction and keep it, but the cash will come in most handy for my E30 Series engine re-build.

Wow, and indeed - WOW Very impressed, and very jealous. I hope this means that the new car is getting close to being ready Conrad - looking forward to seeing it back on the track, there has been a lack of E30 M3 goodness in the Open class this year. And as for having two of them - well that's just being plain ol' greedy
-
^^ Not bad for a used M10 block! Apparently they liked to use blocks which had been "run-in"" over 100,000kms in a road car to build up the race engines. The 1300hp qualifying engines were affectionately known as "grenades", I'm sure you can work out why!!

Fark ! That is a BIG smash. He is a very, very lucky man to get out of that in one piece. I'll bet he had brown trousers after that For a car without a cage the centre cell did hold up well, quite impressive. A good story and nice vid to show the grand kids though!

Great project Foxy, can't wait to see it up and running. Reckon it will be working in time for the track day in May?I wish I had a brother that built cars like that for me , It's about time Stevo came to his senses and had the joy of six cylinders !

Good to see no senses of humour were lost in this recovery ! EPIC dragons on the home page during work in progress, well done chaps.

Compared to this one, which has met reserve at $35k.. http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motors/C...n-285502698.htm I think he's a bit optimistic on price, Ok the red one has much lower Kms, but I'd take condition over Kms in a 20+ year old car any day. Both are still out of my price range, and too nice to convert to a race car.

Random car porn thread. Anything goes
E30 325i Rag-Top replied to Apex's topic in Other European Cars
Couple of pics of some of my favourite cars, bit random and different to what most will post up on here. The classic British 2-seater sports car.. Triumph TR5 (or TR250 stateside) And a Group B Homologation special, 205 T16.. -
I had a report on Force 10 in a Motorsport New Zealand magazine a while back, and IIRC their results were and increase in overall power and torque for the same engine compared against other fuels, and I think that was with a standard tune rather than having to re-tune to suit the fuel. The only downside was that there was quite an increase in the fuel consumption, I think it was about an 8% increase. Should be fine in a modern engine like the twin turbo, as it will be designed with the newer fuels in mind, would tread carefully of using it all the time in an older motor, the ethanol content would attack the seals over a period of time.

I have two coupe driver's door glasses and I'm in Palmy. Could meet half way if you can't find anything closer? Cheers, JTP.

Thanks for all the birthday wishes, makes up for feeling another year older and none the wiser. I did manage to have a good day, even though I had a typical Jon trip out. I decided to make the most of the day and do something exciting, so I opted for a bit of white water rafting through the Manawatu gorge. Not a organised trip, that's far to simple, no - just me in the Warehouse blow up boat and Mrs Pom to drop me off at the top and pick me up at the bottom. Just after setting out I realised 1) that there wasn't much water in the river and 2) the wind was blowing very strongly in the wrong direction, unless I paddled very hard I was being blown UP river??? After about an hour of frantic paddling, much swearing and screaming one of the paddles decided to give up and snap in half, so now I am bobbing about like a ping-pong ball in a toilet bowl - fun! Eventually managed to get to the side of the river, paddling Indian style, avoiding puncturing the boat on the washed up logs and sharp rock. Started to walk back up stream and spotted a reasonable looking climb back up to the road, so dragged the boat and stuff up the bank and just about made it to the top. Phoned Mrs Pom and she came and picked me up from the layby, just as I was drinking my can of Speights from my survival pack Moral of the story: sometimes there is a force of nature which can't be overcome by brute force and ignorance!!
