  1. Both cast then machined, the chinese ones just done better
  2. Zimmerman Sport Coated ( Slotted / Drilled ) Brembo Sport Coated (Slotted / Dimpled ) The Zimmermans are nicely machined, however the inner side of hub isnt deburred, neither are the slots. Finish inside the vanes is OK. The Brembo are machining Artwork, not a bur on it. The coating on the wear surfacea is different to the hub. They spent some time making them... AvE would say Skookum as frig. Ones made in China, the other is German...
  3. Yeah, Im pretty sure they are a harmonic thing, they're heavy steel, either for noise or for a vibration at a set resonance? No idea.
  4. I have some Zimmerman sport coated and Brembo sport coated rotors in front of me, will post some pics later, its interesting the difference between them. Its very apparent there are Brembos, and Brembos!, even in the same size/application.
  5. Stickers stuck, clearcoated, and some new hardware on the 6 pot bananas.
  6. Pretty good outing considering he had 1/8th the marketing budget, He's already said he will be standing again next time, heres hoping he can get more traction next time around. Its pretty amazing how the media affect who sees what, the whole things so slimey.
  7. Anyone got tidy LCI E87 door cards, in black or red leather (or anything else out there?)
  8. Pretty sure the pads currently in the stock brakes on mine are ceramic ATEs, and they bite pretty well, and Ive never had them fade during spirited driving.... I looked at all the fancy metallic pads but then decided brake dust will make me sad, so went ceramic again. Looks pretty easy to change pads out for something more aggressive for track day as well.
  9. Looking like brakes... courier man is drip feeding me parts... Ended up going for brembo sport coated rotors (slotted/dimpled) for the rear. Options for the rear end are slim pickings due to the odd size. Front end is Zimmerman coated (slotted/drilled), went for Brembo sport NAO ceramic pads and HEL stainless lines.

    Quick rant thread.

Those ryco filters are garbage too, I had one that had chunks of hotglue falling out of it, took it back. "bulk" packs of 6 or so genuine ones pop up on amazon/ebay often for the same price as one "preschoolers art project" ryco one.
  11. I might take you up on that! Was looking at them yesterday. Thanks!
  12. Anyone played with this stuff before, kinda interesting stuff. Similar application to Luxxio Speed Coating. Wash car, leave wet, spray it on, hose it off, dry car. Definitely leaves a slick surface like a wax but is quite quick to do, when drying it with a damp microfibre its actually kind of buffing it off as can see the film high spots getting removed (bottle says no buffing..but.. symantecs). Kinda pricey, but the results pretty decent and it is fast to apply, will see how long it beads for. Black sapphire metallic paint shows up bad waxes pretty well and its passed that test.
  13. Painted them Phoenix Yellow.. and thought the colour looked weird... So then redid them in straight yellow. No clear yet, but they're certainly yellow.
  14. No expert, but I did a bunch of reading on engine flushes, and came to no conclusion. Even some BMW sources say do not use engine oil flushes, and other provide it as a service... God knows whom is right (there is logic to both sides of the argument) That does look pretty nasty to be fair, so flushing its probably a good idea, just be prepared for leaking seals if any of the carbon blocking holes gets loosened. On the rust coloured stuff, thats just shmoo in the oil thats had the oil stripped out of it, from the degreaser, and it just cakes on. Its hard to get off short of media blasting (maybe vapour blasting would sort it?)
  15. Decals are a few weeks away, and apparently I want to stick them on an hour after the paints on, so seals and pistons in and Ill remask it while waiting for the postman.
  16. Shanes colours in Papakura hooked me up with some colour matched high temp enamel, gave lots of good advice as well. All cleaned up, then etch primed. Have the new decals ordered, so once they turn up its time to paint them weird yellow
  17. Lots of interesting things on this Aussie channel
  18. Removed the AU falcon from the 130, came out pretty nice, pretty solid dent but luckily not sharp.
  19. Different solenoids on the N52, they dont normally fail. Ill be putting in an FCP order next week or so, but I doubt they're expensive even from BMW NZ.
