  1. You should start a refuge for neglected 7s. That way I can say that my e38 went to a wonderful home full of frolicking e38s where it will enjoy a pampered retirement.
  2. Grave digging bump. It's time for me to face facts, it's no longer practical for me to keep my E38. I haven't driven it in a year and with another car on the way I really need the garage space. So $1500 ono for Bimmersport members. It's developed a few foibles since sitting, mainly the Airbag light comes on due to the passenger seat sensor. I have a spare passenger seat. And will probably need a new battery as the trickle charger hasn't been kind to it.
  3. I'm pretty sure that I looked at this one about 3 years ago. At that point it was well cared for, but had taken a decent whack to the front. Broken front bumper, radiator and associated damage from what looked like a low speed nose-to-tail. It looks like someone picked it up cheap, fixed it cheaply and then continued to run it down until it got too hard to keep. It's a pity as it's was a really nice spec and low Kms. But that doesn't count for much now.

I need to get my one back out of the garage again. It's only done 300kms since its last warrant and it's for it's next in a coupe of weeks.
  5. Your signature is strangely hypnotic.
  6. This one has been for sale for quite a while. The guy who owns it currently parks in the same building as I do, so I see it frequently. It looks very well kept and is in good condition generally except for the M5 badge on the back is placed in the wrong position. As to whether it's a good purchase or not would depend on a thorough inspection to make sure that the swap has been done properly. On the surface it looks well done and the fact that the current owner has owned and daily driven it for a while are good signs, but it'd still warrant a decent check over. If everything has been done and maintained properly it would be fun proposition. However, remember that it'll always be a transplanted 528 rather than an M5 so it'll never be worth what a comparable M5 is worth.

Can't believe it went for only $1
  8. I've had my E38 for 8 years now. It doesn't get much use now days but it's still a joy when I do decide to take it out of the garage.
  9. Cars that are 20yrs+ don't have to comply with the new frontal impact laws or emissions etc. Makes these pretty easy to import. But still. Japanese import with unknown history, repainted cheaply, US spec engine and somewhat impractical LHD. I'd rather pay a few grand more and get a New Zealand new full spec version with service history and actually be able to see what's coming when I'm trying to overtake.
  10. Sad face. Isn't that the one that was originally owned by the MD of BMWNZ? One of two genuine ACS7s in the country?
  11. Really? Most private sales are "As is where is". The one I run away from is the "ran fine when I parked it up" type of statements.
  12. I need a replacement tow hook cover for a standard (non-motorsport) front bumper on an e60. Ideally painted in Diamond Black, but I can paint it if required.
  13. The lien holder will sometimes be informed of change of ownership by the NZTA. They will be also told by the insurer if you cancel your insurance if insurance was a condition of the loan. If they find that you have sold the vehicle then they will likely call in the loan and repossess the car at that point until the issue is resolved. From the new owner's perspective if they don't check for outstanding finance on the car, then the first they'll know about it is when their car is repossessed.
  14. I'm quite partial on 19" Style 128s on the e60. But then I am kind of biased. The 172 are too fussy looking for me.
  15. I see this car on a daily basis. My work car park is about to spots down from the his. It looks really tidy and the few times that I have spoken to the owner he seems like decent guy. Honest about the swap over and keeps it well maintained. I was quite tempted as it's the kind of car you could just drive and enjoy without worrying about putting miles on a "future classic" and annoying the purists. I decided against it as I don't really need three BMW V8s in my life at the moment.
  16. If it's the one I'm thinking of, then the owner is an Asian student in his mid-20s.
  17. Based on the attention to detail you've put into your other cars this is going to be an outstanding project. An M3 Touring would have to be one the best parts getters/dog carriers out there. I know that the metal work involved wouldn't make it practical, but an M3 Shooting Brake would be mind blowing.
  18. I would run away from that one. It doesn't look that well cared for. The front bumper hasn't just been resprayed. It's been replaced with an aftermarket Motorsport one and it doesn't look like the fog-light grills have been replaced to match. Not a big warning sign, but could also point to other things being half-assed. It's an import so the iDrive, GPS and Radio won't work unless they have been swapped to an NZ system. About $2-3k to do. If you can try and find one with the sports/comfort seats (higher and adjustable side bolsters and thigh support) as I find the standard seats too flat and uncomfortable.
  19. Check engine light is on and a warning triangle showing. I'd definitely get a PPI on that one.
  20. The E60 is a good car. The looks tend to be a love or hate issue for most people, but IMO they only look right in the darker colours. 169kms isn't that high if the car has been well maintained. I find that most BMWs respond better to being driven and well maintained so I'd prefer a higher mileage example with full service history than a lower mileage one that has had the bare minimum of services. One thing to watch is that the standard service interval on the E60 is 20,000kms which IMO is too long. I looked for a NZ new one where the owner had done his own oil changes in between the dealer intervals and so far mine has been absolutely bullet proof. The valve stem seals are a common issue, as are alternators and various gaskets and coolant system. Much the same as the E39 really. The transmission can also be a week point so make sure that the shifts are smooth, especially between 2-1.
