  1. They certainly fill the guards out nicely! It will all be worth it in the end.
  2. Done a bit of reading on this myself. With a PS delete, the faster the rack, the heavier the steering will be. i.e. E30 racks with the PS deleted will be lighter than a E36 rack with the PS deleted. The factory E30 rack was something like 4.5 turns lock to lock, which is even slower than the PS e30 rack. A lot of the US guys delete their PS on e36 rack-swapped e30s for track use, but a lot of them seem to be saying that its really too heavy for a daily. The other thing to be considered is that the e36 is a heavier car, so lack of PS is more of an issue. Also, if you do go about deleting it - do it properly - I.e disconnect the hoses from the rack, otherwise you will be pushing fluid unassisted back through the pump, and it will have the effect of making it even heavier. There is some argument on whether you need to allow fluid to flow through between the two banjo bolts with a delete. You can buy kits that allow this to happen - whether it actually is necessary, is another question. Eg: http://www.condorspeedshop.com/products/aluminum-power-steering-delete-block-plate-e30
  3. This makes me want to go down to the garage and hug my m20. EDIT: And also go and tidy that person's workshop.

Things are coming along slowly. Tidied the garage today. Got rid of the old Getrag245, sold to Kayne Barrie for parts. New pilot bearing, swapped across pressure plate and clutch to b25. Swapped across some ancillaries and hoses from the b20 to the b25. New 260 all bolted up to the B25 and ready to go in - just waiting on parts from the states now. Missing a few bolts that attach the gearbox to the engine. Will make a visit to Jerry Clayton tomorrow to see if I can get them new.
  7. Brent has one afaik. I think he said $700ish.

New (to me) Getrag260 now in garage. $400. To do list! Lots of cleaning to be done. Have ordered a bunch of parts from the US. Complete new shifter assembly (to replace my incorrect e21 one) and transmission crossmember. New revshift urethane engine and trans mounts. Condor Speedshop power steering delete kit.

Engine and gearbox came out of the car last night with a bit of persuasion. Feel like Nancy Drew. Spent the day researching and calling around trying to work out what was going on with my gearbox and shifter assembly. Half the reason I decided to pull everything apart was to address the issue of my gearbox leaking transmission fluid and eating flex discs. The transmission fluid leak appears to be the result of the output shaft seal not making a proper seal due to damage to the back of the transmission cover. Looks like the entire conversion has been done using e21 323i parts. It has a Getrag 245 with a 3 bolt flange conversion. After speaking to Kayne Barrie, its clear that this along with the use of a 6 bolt rather than 8 bolt guibo has caused the damage to the back of the box, and also explains the car eating flex discs like actual edible donuts. Now on the search for a G260 and associated shifter parts.
  17. Doing some more research - looks like it might be a e21 crossmember. Weird weird weird.
  18. Hi Guys While I have the engine and transmission out of the car, I'm trying to fix up a few issues with the PO's manual conversion. I want to replace the transmission mount, but I've found that the one in my car looks very different than the one that it should have, should the conversion have been done with contemporary parts. The crossmember looks different to anything that I've seen on the web or realoem also, and I'm thinking that the mount may be specific to the crossmember. Would anyone be able to shed some light as to where these parts have actually come from, so that I might replace the mount correctly? Are they suitable at all, or should I replace with the more obvious contemporary crossmember? Facing a similar issue with a PFL shifter carrier that seems to have a linkage that is too short... ugh. Thanks in advance
  19. As per title. After a manual rack for an e30. Also have some housing damage at the rear of my g260, and was hoping to repair using the rear housing piece off another gearbox. If someone has a blown g260 floating around, let me know. Cheers.
  20. Looks loads better! Well done.
