  1. Man, what a project! Fantastic to watch this unfold in little ole NZ.
  2. What the f*ck!? Who would do that.

It would be kinda cool if they were looking at actual automotive journalists, instead of the nearest b-list celebrities they could find.

Thanks Brent. Nice to meet you on the weekend, and thanks for tracking down those bolts for me. Definitely a nice little DIY, a bit fiddly but it really does all come apart pretty nicely - and like you say, the devil is in the details. Now time to try to find some sport seats!

Few more days of running. No big issues. Really pleased with everything. Chilling at home Major increase in power. So much more torque at the low end. It really highlights the flaws of the m20b20. Significant NVH increase with the more solid mounts, but throttle response is fantastic. The whole car feels very solid. Shifter is much better than before, and the ratios of the new gearbox are much better than the Getrag245. Finally got around to working on the odometer. I found out there were several different types of gears available, and that I would have to pull apart the cluster before ordering them to make sure I got the right gears. Wheel off, cluster out. Cluster surgery begins. Gears in situ. Broken teeth seen below. Worked out I needed version 'B' of Garagistic's KM MotoMeter gear replacement kit: http://store.garagistic.com/ocart/KMH-motometer-gears-b Gone ahead and ordered this. In the meantime i'll put the cluster back in the car so it's drivable.
  6. Too late sorry - gone to the scrappie.

    E34 TURBO

Right, sorry, need sleep. Regardless, real testament to your boost-related know-how.

    E34 TURBO

Saw you heading south early this afternoon. Looked and sounded the part. What a car!
  9. Caught a glimpse of your sweet firewood baskets in the back of the wagon.
  10. Would love a bit of a 'Dummy's Guide to...', even if just to have a theoretical understanding. Watching with interest.

The part i've been waiting for for 6 weeks finally arrived today. It is a special part made by revshift that replaced the standard rubber guibo in the driveline. It adapts the 96mm/12mm transmission flange (which came on the new getrag260 I bought) to the 78mm/10mm E30 driveshaft. All bolted up in the car: Put in gearbox fluid and coolant. Bolted up the old exhaust (will get a new one made soon). And started her up. Had to fix an exhaust leak and a coolant leak, but once that was sorted it went for it's first drive. Success! No major issues at all. Much rougher with the poly engine and gearbox mounts, but feels great. Also now has drop hats to bring the front down a bit. Few more things to do (including putting the bonnet back on), but we're pretty much there! Stoked
  12. I bought mine second hand from Germany. With caps. ~$900 landed.
  13. Clever filming. Showing the car without actually showing the car.
  14. I'm kinda jealous about how many oil changes you get to do. So satisfying.
  15. Both testaments to stickability and elbow grease! Love it.
  16. Pity - looks like an otherwise tidy car.
  17. Good to see someone is going to rescue the poor thing. Hate seeing these cars fall into disrepair.
  18. As per title. One has some minor damage from when someone drove into me - doesn't effect function. Tyres have maybe 2000kms on them. Only a year or so old. Good dunlop TZ700s. Just need the space cleared out. Pickup from the North Shore.
  19. As per title. Free to a good home. Pick up from north shore. Just the block & internals. No oil pan (cracked). Got a few other m20b20 bits and pieces if anyone wants them too. Ran 100% before it was removed. ~220k Figured maybe one of the e30 series guys would want it for parts.
  20. Looks great Andy. Nice to see something a bit different than another Mtech2!
  21. Cool man! Would be interested to hear results when its all up and running.

    Poor man's M3

Oh dear. It looked so much better before they started.
  23. Had an awesome little interaction in the Sunnynook mall carpark. Saw a lovely boston green e36 coupe on DS1s, while I was in mine. Made my day. Driver smiled and waved. Anyone from here?

    Quick rant thread.

Actually don't disagree with anything you've said. I am confident you're more evolved than many of the neanderthals that we let behind the wheel (and behind the handlebars of a bicycle), and don't set out to injure people when you're driving. My fear (and something I have seen first hand), is that that negative attitude, among the lesser evolved, can manifest itself in driving habits that are overtly aggressive and dangerous. I understand the frustrations of motorists when dealing with annoying cyclists, and I understand the frustrations of cyclists when dealing with annoying motorists. But when some lunatic in a lowered ute decides to drive his car through a bunch of cyclists, it is real people, getting really hurt. Its not a funny "just drive them off the road, haha!" kind of them-and-us, jokey attitude anymore. I'm sure its the same people that drive dangerously and overtake on blind corners. It just seems a little more real when you don't have two tonnes of metal around you. Its the reason I worry whenever a family member is out for a Sunday ride.
  25. Hi Guys Any recommendations for A/C servicing places on the shore? My old man needs his Subaru's A/C checked for leaks and regassed. Had some bad experiences with CoolCar in the past and thought it would be worth asking. Thanks!
