  1. all e 39 m5s were v 8s.The e 34 used two sixes started with the 3.6 and moved to the 3.8 i think in about 91,the 3.8s were euro only.The US aus and NZ never got the 3.8 m5 .I think the last e 34 M5s were 1995 and had the six speed gearbox and 250 kw 3.8 inline 6 M5 3.6 '89-'91 S38 24v 6 - 3535cc 250+ km/h 6.3 sec 311hp / 315bhp 265.5ft.lbs@4750 Rpm 10.0:1 M5 3.8 '92-95 S38 24v 6 - 3795cc 250+ km/h 5.9 sec 335hp / 340bhp 295ft.lbs@4750 Rpm 10.5:1
  2. i checked bmw .co.nz,nothing there from what i could see.Any dates??
  3. I think this style wheel was only ever available for the M5 and came in a shadow chrome finish, also had a little //M badge on em.
  4. lifetime oil....no such thing, change it there is a fill plug in the side, correct level is very important and temerature dependent.
  5. mine had the battery in the boot too,i have taken it out

    I'm not dead

I know you were mightily impressed with those solid nylon tyres!
  7. the wheels (replicas i assume) of M parrallels,which were fitted to the E 39 M5 i think(to begin with) and i think a slightly different version was available for the e 38 seven's.

You know Carl you shouldnt buy these new fangled SOFT COMPOUND tyres that wear out and flat spot if you mash the pedal in the middle to the floor. There are these incredible european tyres called Barums..... Oh and nice to see you again Jim
  9. the worst case scenario is many many dollars, the best case is flush and new thermostat, and may be a new fan.The check for the visco fan is simple.if you have been sitiing at idle for any time whatsoever or stop start traffic the visco fan will lock up(as is supposed to happen)wind down the window and as you acellerate away (obviuosly requires freer moving traffic) the 5 will sound like a small truck.I concur, with the other s my 535 NEVER shows the temp higher than 12 oclock. The visco fan is the many bladed fan immediately behind the radiator,it should spin easily when the car is cold but starts to lock up as the radiator gets hotter, there is another fan in front of the radator which will come on when the a/c is turned on and or (ithink) when the temp reaches a certain level.Apart from these cooling sytem issues the M30 six is a very very strong engine. When you have got it sorted renew the coolant every two years with the correct coolant(low phospahate low nitrates)
  10. Just who is the gummint who are "making money"Is Helen transferring money to a swiss bank account?.This i beleive is a long overdue step in making us take some steps in reducing our impact on the enviroment. It will take some small steps like this involving whole populations that will actually start to have an effect on pollution and global warming.whatever the arguments there is no doubt that there is global warming, and some very very strong links between co2 and temperature levels.Dont argue about it,lets actually start doing something about it...and buying more fuel efficient and less polluting cars (which are available NOW) is a good start isnt it?
  11. actually the whole point is emmisions isnt it?In the long run some kind of emmisions test at the WOF will do the job,but then cars like mine, although well maintained, but no cat,no o2 sensor etc might struggle
  12. That will be a significant number of cars here, mines nearly 17 years old!
  13. for "market prices" just browse trademe...its sickening but true.A car is only worth what someone is wanting to pay for it,and in most cases your mods are worth nothing,it just means someone may take your car over the std one.The wheels may be the exception.
  14. E60 530d. Nice car, wanted to see what all the fuss was about. the oil burners. Was very impressed ,once the doors shut you couldnt really tell it was a diesel. The engine note was slightly more basso, then usual, there was a bit of a delay starting from a stop, but i wasnt sure if it was the turbo spooooooling up or if it was the auto.First few intersections also got the cruise intead of the indicators.I felt tho the interior was very disapointing for a 100,000 dollar car, nothing special at all.
  15. once i had a car with a/c i now wouldnt be without it.Not much use in Wellington, but as RXSUMO says its great to demist too.You must run the A/C every now and then(at least once a month),to keep the seals lubed and sealing. At least it will work when you come to sell the car.The A?C is fantastic for those summer holidays.....Makes long drives so easy!
  16. i got a set of 17 in wheel and tyres sent from AK to WN were plastic wrapped with cardboard protection. They werent on a pallet when i collected them.Cost me about 80 is think.Any of the freight companies will do it.
  17. offset wrong for e34 lordandrevv e34 std offset is 20mm
  18. the e 39 has a peculiar hub diameter.Just abut every 5,6,7 and 8 series has a 72 .4 mm hub dia for some reason the e 39 has 74.1.,so e38 and e 39 wheels may not be intercahngeable(at least for the e39).I have a set of wheels(aftermarket) on my e 34 (with the 74 hub dia) which i will be selling soon. They are not perfect .
