general e 39 issues are well known,There is a e39 buyers guide somewhere on this site.

fwiw SONY was original equipment in BMW of that era.my 1990 E34 5 series for example had a sony head unit and cd stacker in the boot.The head unit was branded BMW

e34 and e39 quite diferent cars...the E34 is a much more "tactile" car.The e39 is a much Nicer car,the e34 will put a grin on yer face

i went to a local auto electrician(battery town i think) and got the original spec battery for the e34 was a Hella,...

my nickname for the 535 was the panzer -
was interesting to night...must be very very careful.There was prolly about 2 in of snow on the road.I came to a round about and had to stop a wee bit more firmly than first anticipated because a couple of cars fed in from the left ,if i had entered and stopped i would have blocked the first exit.The merest extra pressure activated the abs!So i was stopped dead and had a wee bit of wheel spin on take off....this was if anything a very very slight uphill.No ther probs but i was concentrating like ----the slightest squeeze on the throttle would cause wheelspin!

only you know the answer to that....the cost of repairing the E30 will probably be "more than its worth",but what is the new car going to cost(and what do you actually know about it?)
