I think the last car review by the Herald that actually involved their reporter sitting in the actual car was probably never. I normally only flick through anyway, but the AMG caught my eye, then as I flipped the page after realising it was nonsense I saw the sub-headline for the Honda and had to do a double take. Utter garbage. I could do it better, but I can't think of a worse job than being a writer.

Today's "Super Wheels". The article on the new Mercedes AMG SL65 AMG "Black" lists engine output from the 6 litre v12 as both 493kW and 450kw in the very next paragraph. That's a 10% reduction in power in about 4 sentences. The factory claims 493kW. The rest of the article is also rubbish. Qoute from page 5: "Want to make your Honda go faster? Add a sports pedal or 16-inch alloys..." How about a Type-R badge aswell? I hear they are equally effective at bumping HP as a set of pedals or rims.

I pressed mine in myself in about 5 mins using a vice and some pipe the right diameter I had lying around. But the old ones came out easily, otherwise I would have needed a press. Get the lollipops off and then decide. You shouldn't have to remove the control arms - why would you do that?

Link to new laws. AFAIK nothing has been actually passed as of yet.

That'd be interesting. Liek I said, I don't plan to do anything about it if they can't. besides, everyone does something they shouldn't at work now and again. Just public servants, esp. the police are really in the public eye and are more likely to be in the firing line if they do.

Yep, nickname: Robotwat, although that name was coined for her predecessor who was even worse. The current one is no where near as bad. Our regular cops are fine, its the special traffic unit we have. We are the base for the north for Highway Patrol - more of them than regular cops, and even the regular cops complain about them.
-
That's my thoughts unless someone knows different. And of course, noone (including me) will be bothered to make a formal complaint (esp. not in a town this size - I don't feel like getting pulled up every day for the next 5 years).

Out of interest. I was following one on the way to work this morning merrily puffing away out the window. Now the smoking in the workplace law allows smoking in company vehicles if you are the sole user or if the other users also smoke or sanction it (as far as I understand it), But being a government department, and more importantly, being somewhere members of the public are often "forced" to sit, surely smoking in the vehicle (even when the cop is the sole occupant) is a no-no?

Looking forward to interior pics. I havn't seen almost ANY well modded 7's in nz - they're either stock as a rock, or maybe some rims, or they're stupidly low on massive chromes. Will be sitting here hoping this one doesn't become the latter as lowered a little on some sweet rims, with a tough sounding exhaust, tints and some light upgrades and other minor cosmetic touches would be sick.

Seems fairly good. Make sure you factor in shipping and insurance as this will add to the total cost. As you are sticking under the magic $600 you shouldn't be liable for customs duty.

Basically, you pays your money, you takes your chances. I havn't bought at auction for a few years, but sounds as though they have toughened up a little. When I was 17 they used to let me take cars for un-supervised test drives. I was living in Dunedin at the time and I use to go for a 45min thrash up the hills above Portobello (locals will know where I mean), no worries. Used to use my eyes, ears and nose to do my own mechanical check, and made some good deals (for a 17/18 yo student with no money that is). When I moved to Auckland and got a job I forgot about the auctions for some reason - even bought one car from a yard (shock horrror! - sorry Brian). Now I live in rural NZ and no auctions around here anyway. Have you tried talking with them about taking the car off-site for a check? These days I wouldn't buy any car worth more than $6 or 7k without a professional inspection.

Happy birthday. Don't let your staff swindle you out of too many after-work beers...

Ok, I'll ask if we have something here. I've been picking up alot of the slack in the engineering department lately as my workload has dropped off, but there may still be some left. Will be general civil and structural engineering experience with some geotech and effluent design, and maybe some contract supervision. What dates are we talking and would she be willing to move to Paihia for the summer?

Purple and orange Napier e34 photoshoot ftw....

Well if reserve is less than $50k, then I was right in thinking prices havn't changed for at least 4 years. (Seeing as its a nz-new evo).

haha Shelley - we did the same thing on Wednesday night (actual guy fawkes) We had one of helen clark, and one of Winnie the pooh. So let me know who you want out of politics next election and I'll burn them on the bonfire - I think I have special powers... I'm glad Peter Dunne got thrown in the mix. He's a weird looking fella who says strange things, but I get the impression he's very intelligent and does a good job.

Well cutting is cutting no matter who did it - still needs nz lvvt cert. secondly, e30's are more expensive in aussie than over here (due to their luxury vehicle tax which made them more expensive to bring in when they were newer, and thus they hold their price better. So with import costs you are going to end up with one expensive e30.

That won't work either. my g/f has no parents, and bugger all money as she has no quals and so works for min wage. She wants to go to uni to study to be a midwife. We've worked it out. With Student loan, allowance including max accom supplement, its still not enough. Part-time work is not an option in her course (according to current students) as she has to do unpaid shift work at the hospital for most of the year as part of the training. I'm not all that keen to reach into my own pocket, but we're running out of ideas. So if the allowance was watered down to spread amongst all students, she'd be even more f**ked. She's not dumb, will pass her course and then become a taxpayer earning $50/60k. But needs every government cent in the meantime to get there. I know the problem (wealthy kids with parents money hidden), but I have no idea how to stop that. Someone I know can't get an allowance as her olds earn too much. But she has been able to work during her course and because she can bludge off mum and dad (and they pay all her course fees), she actually earns enough to live off. So her student loan is sitting in a term deposit earning 8%. She has been at uni for almost 3 years and has $30k sitting in the bank. The day she leaves she'll pay off her loan and the balance will damn-near be a deposit on a house. So those that don't need it are ripping the system, and those that do aren't getting enough! Oh and you can stop it with the scrapping of adult entrance too, plenty of older people who never got the bit of paper as it wasn't needed in their time who just want to get it to stay competitive in the labour market. I know fo someone who trained as a nurse (not a degree in those days), worked in public health for years, moved to the private sector and now runs a large retirement village and hospital. She is going back to uni as an adult to get a commerce degree and management quals so if (when?) she wants a change of scene she can get another management job. She should so allowed to be able to get in to uni - what do you want her to do, collect her pension and die quietly? (she's 50). For a smart guy Mike, I don't think you've thought this through properly. You do make some interesting points. Everyone sees things from there own perspective (me included). At least adults going to uni really want it, and aren't just doing it because they don't know what to do with their lives, like many younger students do.

Simon - Keiti is considering voting Labour for that reason. Shelley - the poll is spread over too long a period even to be a true account of what bimmersporters will vote. Bet you many have changed their minds more than once since voting. Not to mention, bsport is hardly an even cross-section of society.
-
+1. Well currently the vote is evenly split with 52 votes placed - that's the closest poll we've ever had!

Where are you? I have one in good cond.
