Coming along nicely. Looks clean as.
-
Welcome, have seen your TM listing. Alot of people hate that colour, but it's my personal fav for the m3.
-
Picking the right car in the first place is the most important factor. A well maintained bimmer will give cheaper use than a poorly maintained jappa, but parts (and sometimes servicing) are often cheaper for jap cars as previously discussed. Esp. aftermarket. My friend got fully adjustable coil overs (forget brand, but they were good) for the same price as my non-adjustable Bilsteins after I had them revalved. So thats struts, springs and shaocks for a coil over setup for the same money as a set of new Bilstein shocks with a few hundred dollars worth of customisation on top. Similarly, a racing 5-puk clutch with uprated pressure plate for say, an r32 skyline is not much more than an oem BMW one. Double the cost for the BMW equivalent (or more). It's probably a symptom of sales volume and supply/demand. But OEM parts for repairs are quite comparable, esp if you shop around.

So the m40 has an adjustable cam pulley?? Or the key on the cam and the notch on the puley are worn?
-
They did a nice job. What did they do and how much?
-
Depends on brand, and whether that's installed or not, but it's not hard to spend that kind of $ on a rear muffler as pictured, or more.
-
Yep if it includes the muffler. Usually $600+ for a basic system from factory headers back. Cheaper for OEM.
-
Which 25% less than what it was at its peak. Based on inflation, etc, we should probably be paying around the $1.30-odd (IMO), so we're not too far off. Still too high right now though, but on the upside, my driving habits have changed slightly and I'm actually spending less on fuel now than a few years ago when it was $1.30 a litre.
-
6 more mixes like that and I'll be able to fill a CD
-
Yeah - that's why you'd go z3 m - shorter again, and with a slight bend in the linkage, shifting problems are no more, I run the 1.9 one myself though. I didn't know Gavin didn't have the short shifters in stock. Wonder how much they are at the dealer? I think SPEED NZ is an advertiser rather than a sponsor - do they offer a discount to members?
-
Take it for a thrash at the Waiuku Flying 50 this weekend. Seems they've opened entry up to any european car of any year (according to classic car mag). Targa?
-
Sweet. I now what I'm going to be listening at work today. Just waiting on the d-load now.
-
I know nothing of the first video - looks freakn cool!, but this one is a well-known internet video chop. Apparently everything except the last few seconds is a model plane. Sorry to ruin it for you! Still an awesome video.
-
+1 Z3 1.9 or z3 M shifter. I paid much the same price as FrantiC (maybe $10 or $20 more incl. freight) from forum sponsor Euro Italian about 3 years ago and it was in my hands the next day.

Fascinating engineering video on bolts and vibration
bravo replied to jochen's topic in General Discussion
You didn't watch it properly did you. They torqued the bolts correctly. They were no where near only finger tight. They tightened to a constant stress on the bolt. The nuts were 13mm. Your average 13mm nut is tight somewhere between 20 and 30Nm depending on the material and the application. They showed that the unlubricated nuts required around that amount to tighten to the set bolt stress, so they were hardly finger tight. Sure, they replicated some pretty severe vibration that your average nut may not be subjected to, but then again, they are marketing toward engineers who are having trouble for that very reason. You wouldn't go around your BMW replacing all the nylocks with these. -
Ah that's better. The orange was making me want to look away. Now it looks awesome.
-
Yeah bu tit would have been better just peeking out. Its a little obscene how it is. IMO.
-
I have some fronts. Could do with a rebuild (so not new or near new), but at $100 approx each for a rebuild, you will be able to get them in new cond for a lot less than new ones. Make an offer if interested. Also I still have the boot piece, interior lights etc that you were after but never got back to me on.
-
bitchn. Love everything except the tv in the trunk. And the blower out the bonnet (sorry, hood) is a bit too much. Rollers have such a mean shape for rods though - wish there were more of them.
-
I've seen that car before somewhere. Loved the plate.

I think he makes some valid points. Esp. regarding the commercialism. Waters down the act so to speak. I couldn't care less one way or the other. It does however add a bit of entertainment and excitement in the lead-up to kick off, and when performed well, does give a sense of national pride, but at the end of the day, getting all bent out of shape at someone's entitled opinion that it be scrapped is just giving in to the very insecurities the author mentions. Let it stay or let it go, either way, just stop getting so fired up about the subject.

If you want the thicker stuff they use for floor (ie fake wood lino) I'm putting some through a rental in about 10 days. You can have all the off cuts. Same grain pattern as you posted, but darker colour. 2mx2m might be a push though. Talk to a flooring place. Comes in a 3m or 2m roll. Heaps of different colours and patterns. About $50 a metre on a 2m roll if you get something on special. Anything up to $130+ a metre on a 3m roll for higher quality or more complex and true-to-life patterns.

The noise you refer to can be a total bitch to diagnose. Can be quite a few things. Mine took months to locate, and a new, quiter one has just started after almost a year of no trouble. Search google and you will find more information than you will ever need on trying to isolate the problem. Once you have isolated it to a certain part of the system you can go from there. Mine turned out to be the wires behind the woofer cone touching a metal part of the car. Even though I checked everything a million times, I always installed the speakers before testing, and so it was always there. it wasn't until I pulled the speakers out and tested that I found it. I'm hoping my new problem is the same thing, and just things have moved since I first fixed it.
