That was excellent. I needed a good laugh after having a little battle before working on the E36's body work.

Yeah, I read this in the paper today. Quite a chuckle

Water to air intercooler location..
[email protected] replied to [email protected]'s topic in Performance
Yeah, an methanol-water injection system is another alternative. A guy running the same system did it and said it worked very well & suggested it. Didn't get much detail from him however. Though the biggest factor with that is the corrosion that can take place on the aluminum. Are there ways around that though? A corrosion inhibitor of some sort? I haven't really looked in to the fine details. -
Water to air intercooler location..
[email protected] replied to [email protected]'s topic in Performance
I was just thinking that too while laying in bed last night. Powering a smaller compressor would be the question though... would you have something hooked up to run off the serpentine belt or some sort of quet electric motor. I am sure 12v electric a/c compressors exist in in some form... but they could be noisy and expensive. That would be at least the best solution, somewhat of an active cooling system rather than a passive one. Hmmm -
Water to air intercooler location..

Hmmm I was just thinking about a bit further, I think Ive answered my own question... Say for instance if the ambient temperature was 20 degrees c, the temperature of the water in the water to air setup would have to be less than that of the air going in which is unlikely, as its going to get heated up by the coolant lines being near the hot engine and other radiators... so all it would do is heat up the air going into the supercharger... Certainly not a solution. Otherwise, I was thinking maybe I could fit in an inline coolant pipe with heat sink fins in the middle of the intake manifold under the supercharger as theres a small amount of space in there where it could fit and not block anything, but its around 50x40x350mm max, similar to one of these in the picture bellow... though I think that would be too thick and need some fins removed... How much effect it would have is the question though.. not much surface area compared to a proper intercooler. Then again, maybe at my boost level I am over working it, not really needing to cool it.. -
Mmm kay, so in an unrelated project to my E36, Im working on an old style roots supercharger setup on a V8. The roots blower is top mounted, and needs to be as low as possible in the valley, so the manifold I have designed has no room for an internal water to air intercooler inside of it, though if height was not an issue I could easily run a good sized WTA intercooler between the supercharger and the intake manifold... but sadly that can't be a practical solution Not long ago I was thinking perhaps a small water to air intercooler would work build into the throttle body adapter between the TB & supercharger unit so the ambient air temperature going into the supercharger was colder - obviously makes sense to cool the compressor discharge temperature (CDT) but as said in the previous paragraph I can't do that. Would there be a benefit cooling the intake temp before the supercharger, or is this a complete was of time? I'm only running 6 PSI so I almost don't need an intercooler but I still feel it would be a good idea to try incorporate something to reduce the air temp. Any advise would be great.

Can you get these stickers from Ebay?

Hahaha, oh jesus. Me thinks your right.

We have needed a thread like this for a while. It will actually be single charged once the 4.0 V8 engine goes into it during spring. Will that save 'it'?

This whole thing is el-retardo

Oops, yeah I meant Laser not radar. Duh!

http://www.blinder.net/ I looked into them a while ago, the Blinder branded ones seem to be the most common ones with good results. Though, they seem gimmicky.

What a sad police state we now have on the roads... All because theres a group of people that can't drive and have no sense of judgement on the open road. I love the polices solutions to enhance their revenue gathering abilities in the last year or so during holiday weekends.... Flying in Helicopters to monitor bad driving from the air... More & newer version speed camera vans Hiding in bushes with cameras monitoring 'driver behavior' Now reducing speed tollerance to 4km/h! HAHA Next we will get those time distance speed cameras that record your time between two points giving you a ticket if your too fast.... Time to invest in radar jammers or are they a waste of time?

E36 sticking drivers door lock barrel
[email protected] replied to beeeamer's topic in Electrical system
You should not use a wet lubricant inside a lock barrel, will collect dirty and crap over time making it worse. Best to use a dry lubricant like graphite dust. I got mine for a few bucks from Mitre10, made in Germany too! -
Exactly!! They are sh*t, and the people that made them are bigger fools than the cars.

Opening the taps on our M3 round back of Taupo
[email protected] replied to Gotheschu's topic in Videos & Sound
Very much so, E46 M3s are probably one of most tiny performance cars in the exhaust department, I was in New Market driving along and an M3 opened the taps getting onto the motorway, i was quite surprised how tiny it sounded, far cry from the lazy bassy note of a good V8. -

Great car but the clip doesn't do it any justice. -
heh yeah Just guess you gotta have a good insurance cover at the end of the day. Using your rear vision mirror is a good way to avoid idiots pilling into the back of you when coming to a stop. A neat method I use when slowing for lights is to slow leaving a reasonable gap in front while keeping my eye on the car behind if the driving is a bit suspect, by watching whats behind me I've been able to move forward avoiding two idiots going into the back my my E36 this year. Scary.
-
Mmm, Just finished watching it too. Pretty interesting, that first 850 he looked at would have been a shocker, you know they are quite far gone once they have loads of alloy surface corrosion and spider webs, not to mention the ECU of the paint work really did show how badly it had been exposed to the elements for many years unprotected. Liked it how the guy said the fuel lines have gone... one of another 100 other major issues. Certainly a full rebuild to get that in order, but I would imagine its already been parted by now.

Hilarious, these guys shouldn't be allowed to touch a crescent ever again! Agreed. Just scary these cars can go on the road and be near the decent ones.

With the way most new BMW front designs have been going that will probably end up being a 2016 model look unless they snap out of making these hideous kidney grille variations sometime soon. F01 7 series have a woeful grille amongst other new models.
