just be warned... e46 gaurds are built like a brick sh*t house .. see if they can heat them up a little before rolling them as not to crack the paint.
-
crack your engine open first...

yes but one looks stock and one doesn't They way ive done it the parts are manufactured by the same company(s) that do the bits for BMW's e30s. Technically yes. Warrent time, It looks pretty much the same as stock. PS I have to cert, brake booster isn't the only thing in my brake setup thats changed

Hopefully not good old opinions and debate is fine I'm sure everyone is mature enough to keep it that way.

After own(ing) all of them, I dis-liked the e36 the most. The e30 is the most fun to drive and great for some slow fun. The e46 is by far the most stable at speed however lacks feeling to the road due to the flyby wire throttle and steering geubo/damper. The interior of an e46 is just a nicer place to be. (im talking leather versions) What do I prefer the most. I would have to say the e46 just because as a daily vehicle the interior for me becomes the thing that matters most, in auckland traffic that is.

A client I work for is rather large insurance firm. I can tell you first hand they have more time and resources and motive than the police in a lot of cases to work on protecting themselves aginast this sort of thing. I think its about as dumb as walking into a bank without a balaclava on

For your brake booster and may as well upgrade the master cylinder to 25mm I run a golf mkII 1.3 uk version booster and a Audi 88 / v8 25mm master cylinder. Its not the only combo out there but wasn't too expensive to do (about $500) The other way is remote reservoir like the Wilwood setup however you’ll need a cert for this.

no probs... yeah sorry could find the instructions, I've put them away in one of those places where I know I wont loose them if you know what I mean. Just to make it clear to everyone. Every e46 has 'cruise control' and the ability to control every button that comes with a MF steering wheel. No modules or control devices are needed.. Everything is either already in the DME / LCM or your radio. The steering wheel just sends ibus commands and the appropriate module reads it.

very big nads ... catches a lot of tank slappers with the standard suspension setup.

My old write up may help with this... As ray said, hell have some of the parts but here is the list I got to make it all work on mine Hey ya, The kit you need to do this is: e46 MF Steering Retro fit kit 65 71 0 021 159 This kit is made up of the following: Part number Description Supplement Quantity 01 29 0 017 969 Stick-on label EBA-AUFKL. GELB 1 12 52 7 510 671 Jack mlk 0,25-0,5 MM?/AG 1 61 12 0 016 012 Retrofit cable set, speed control 1 61 13 0 005 201 Bushing contact 0,2-0,5 MM? 1 61 13 1 367 599 Cable strap L=200MM/B=3,6MM 10 61 13 1 379 833 Shrinking hose 1 61 13 8 353 746 Cable connector 0.2-0.5 MM? 1 61 31 6 949 754 Cover cap, sports strng whl multifunction 1 61 31 8 386 947 Connecting line, steering wheel 1 01 29 0 023 076 Installation instructions 1 I managed to come into a e39/e46 MF steering wheel and air bag unit for about $500 so that was the main expense out of the road. If your have/buy the steering wheel (ebay) and airbag unit (ebay) to complete the conversion you only need the following parts Part number Description Supplement Quantity 12 52 7 510 671 Jack mlk 0,25-0,5 MM?/AG 1 - For M47 Engine e46 only not needed for m54bxx 61 12 0 016 012 Retrofit cable set, speed control 1 61 13 8 353 746 Cable connector 0.2-0.5 MM? 1 61 31 8 386 947 Connecting line, steering wheel 1 - Only needed if this didnt come with the steering wheel 01 29 0 023 076 Installation instructions 1 - Not needed Will upload these later I'm getting the Walnut horribleness painted matt black to match the plastic surrounding controller buttons. Im told it will look pretty close Here are the pictures of everything. For cruise control, you e46 DME already comes with it built in as standard and all you need is the MF steering wheel to activate it. Took about 3 hours as we had to translate / guess swedish instructions. But brendon and I now think we can knock it out in about 30-45mins. I had some fun testing out cruise control up towards silverdale this afternoon, I spotted a fellow bimmersporter with a silver e36 with black / polished dish wheels. nice ride who ever it was ... This install will fit both e39 and e46 and I'm 99% sure x5 as well e46 LCM computer and steering pulled apart. Routing the retro-fit speed control loom. DME speed control wiring. Fuse box behind the glove box, this is where we enter the engine bay. More shots of the DME wiring in the engine bay. Finished, you can also see how the painting of the walnut cover piece turned out. factory black ftw Testing out the cruise control system, nnote the new green light that shows up on the dash to tell you the system is active. Volume control test Radio station / ipod controls This is the write up I did on it all. Here are some guides I could find on the net. (in swedish but it has some pictures) http://www.autopower.se/mekartips/mekartips.asp?dokid=111 have fun ... tell us how it goes

Just get a full comprehensive mechanical warrenty and your fine. (you should do this anyways in the first 2 - 3 years of car ownership. I lost reverse gear, basically because I was a noob and didn't wait for the reverse gears to engage and put my foot on the accelrator loading up the gear box. The earlier gearboxes drum had a weak design and eventually gave way. It was replaced with revised parts and all is well now. When putting an e46 into reverse .. dont take you foot off the brake till its full engaged. My problem is I did alot of parking on ponsonby road and had traffic coming up behind me so I was trying to be too quick albeit I wasn't being violent with it but even still.

Get some professional advise dude. Start with having a chat to glenn. Price up all of your options and make the choice from there.
-
mine cost that for the 330i when it lost reverse, would imagine it would be similar.
-
hmmm was going to say what ever you do dont drive on it as it sometimes can be salvaged with some fairly in expensive parts (obviously depending on what it is). Most bits in a gear box induvidually dont cost too much .. there is just sh*t loads of those $100 - $200 parts that make up to be an expensive item. The less damage you do by turning all the metal through the box the better your chances are of it not costing 5-6 grand. BMW recommend buying a new gearbox and I can actually see why ..it works out to be around about as cheap as having a full refurb done. Ring around the wreckers to see if you can source one if not .. expect a 5-6k bill

What sort of die ?
