There is no warning that it will happen .. The cause is basically a badly designed auto ... As you will notice on any pre 02 e46 auto is that the car takes a few seconds to engage auto .. alot of the time the normal user is stuck in the middle of a three point turn with traffic coming and just hit the accelerator to soon .. causing load up on the gearbox when it engages. 75-120k of this places stress on the reverse engagement piston it eventually blows its seals and buggers the drum. Mine literally shat itself and spray metal all through the gearbox system .. hence the totaly rebuild with revised parts. I now have basically a new gearbox and it feels great Just get mechanical insurance .. you'll be fine .. "if" it happens itll only cost you $100. not $6000. The car is not totally immobilised it feels like a slipping clutch in reverse. sorted. whole thing is a big shame ... but such as life.

thats why you buy adjustibles fella ... best of both worlds for about $300 more

E30 M3 rear panels are about 700 to 800 per qauter E30 M3 front Guards are about 400 per quarter E30 M3 Front bumper shell and carrier is about 1600 E30 M3 Rear bumper shell and carrier is about 1600 Rear window frame about 1000 E30 M3 boot and shell assembly 1600 Rear parcel tray interior assembly to (dont bother just get it done after market Evo 3 Front splitter original = 1500 (just get a fiberglass after market one for $300 + shipping) Evo 3 Rear spoiler ... same again .. just get after market E30 m3 rear glass window (aint priced this up yet) E30 side skirts 350 a peice E30 m3 doors --- easy enough to just mod some standard coupe doors to look the same Basically It'll cost you around 2400 to get the box guards + cutting / welding / finishing .. its the other bits that cost the $$$ Your looking at around 12k for parts and about 6-8k for assembly paint Bank on 20k to do an OEM m3 conversion from new. The fiber glass kits are nasty .. have seen two in the flesh now and they all delaminate from the seems and/or get water in them at some point. Getting glass bumpers would be worth it .. depending on the quality of the job .. and would save you big $$$. e30 m3 in NZ at the mo is about 25 - 50k .. and you would still have to spend 10k on the right hand conversion. so its up to you what you are trying to do .. We are going the panel and body route and are opting not to strip out an e30 m3 .. as at the end of the day its costs about the same ... may as well buy new stuff. But our goals are a lot different than just wanting the m3 look. We had to consider power and drive train strength. So buying an m3 made no sense price wise as we could m-coupe and body kit the current car with new OEM stuff for the same price / slightly cheaper. Unfortunitly there is no way currently of doing it on the cheap and properly. usual story ... you pay for what you get.

Nah didnt ... would still have the same issue though ... mind you albeit a few years down the track and I would have moved on to an e90 by then ..

hehe ... well the quotes in for the damage ... The reverse gear drum and piston in the auto made a f**k of a mess unfortunitly .. Its costing over 6k to fix ... If you own an e46 99-01 auto with 80-120k on the clock.. get mechanical insurance. As more than likely the box doesnt have the revised parts in it. Warning for all..

Check the lines ... probably just old as ... Check the latch mechinsm is seated properly in the pillar, then check the door hinges for the same thing... if not .. nothing like a bit of door bending to get it to fit proper

I think most of us at some stage in our life have done the illegals etc etc ... But the big problem I feel isn't the actual illegal drags themselves ... its the stupid moronish street racing in built up public space thats really the issue here. The think a lot of people miss is that when they race... its the "what if" they dont think about ... "what if that kid on the sidewalk decided to just decides to run out in the middle of the road" ..... etc etc ... and with the amount of street racing thats going on its only a matter of time before another tradgic accident will happen. these are happening more and more. Thing is you can take away from this with statements like "You'll never stop it" is if its you that kills someone .. reckon you can live with yourself ? I couldn't ... so therefore I dont drive like a twat in built up areas .. fullstop .
