Someone I know picked up a '99 leather e46 328i auto for 18k with 109k on the clock ... not bad really My flatmate is in the same position .. wants to go m3 .. but its just out of his reach at the mo. We reckon they will get down to maybe 15k then start to go back up as the boy racers buy them and f**k them and they become more rare for good ones. good thing is .. there will be an influx of s50's around for e30 conversions

Mass market flagship models always do this, If you think about it.... people who can afford them will buy them new, and move on after 3 years people who cant afford wont pay the big money for them .. so they just dont sell ... they're only worth as much as someone is willing to pay for it. and well ... people in the second hand market realistically are in the 120k bracket max unless its something special which they are not.

    tar .. meguiar's tar and bug remover ... -> super cheap ... best sh*t since sliced bread. I get it all the time .
  7. It will just be the strut tower... they actually bend with a good wack (driving over a curb fast etc etc) as others have said ... its an easy thing to fix on a chassis jig. no big stress .. just a little bit of expense is all. Any good panel beater should be able to quote you.

    330Ci M Sport

    you can get the driftshaft modified and re-balanced for about $500. The computer changes are just a simple drive into BMW and plugin to their computer system and get the option changed to manual transmission. Its about $120 per visit.
  9. Awesome man, Give me a yell if you need a hand with m3 guard vs wheel width vs offset bits. We are just going through that sh*t at the moment. For the front you looking at et20 or lower .. We are going et15 with the help of 15mm spacers and thats with an 8.5 inch rim. This is to A) clear the 6 pot calipers and B ) clear the inner guards. and C) to keep the same track as the rear wheels as the m-coupe rear end has bought the trac k out about 20mm each side With 9.0inch fronts you will need to roll the m3 gaurds still to get em in without shitload of camber. You may also need to modify the standard m3 bumper to cope with the wider wheels. (the DTM ones where slightly wider) You have several brake options. Availible depending on requirements.. the cross drilled porche brake upgrade is a popular one. Just keep in mind the master cylinder problem, (we upgraded to a 25mm one). But defanitly dont skimp in this area .. its probably more important than anything else. hehehe expect a reasonible chunk of cash to go poof.

    Yeah last time I looked for the 330.. Just for all the parts ... not including mods to the drive shaft and fitting. um yeah, a few minor options .... the rest I changed over myself. (body panels, wheels, interior, etc) mine is auto .. which suits me fine for city driving. you are correct the Ci's especially in manual do command a higher price, but not much more than 5-8k higher .. just its is offset in the market by the slightly higher k's .. however 92k on a BMW is hardly high k's, but general joe public dont know that. defanitly a nice ride though .. !
  11. Thing is .. this is a production car. They need it to last more than 5 years ... A modded turbo car is a constant headache with constant servicing etc etc. The biggest challange with this car for the engineers was the gearbox .. it runs two SMG style clutches automatically. It also is in two gears at one time. Desinging a gearbox that can handle 1000bhp and still be working in 20 years time is some feat. Youll probably find that this engine has a lot more average torque than said modified skyline. Dont make the common mistake of peak horse power and torque figures vs the actual average. A similar analogy is the differnce between Peak Power (PMP) and root mean sqaured (RMS) power in power amplifiers.

    ill take the gearbox Seriously though, not to be a dick .. but its a bit pricey for an 01 with 92,000k on the clock ... I paid 45 for mine with 40,000k's 3 years ago. Manual gear box is only 6k new from BMW.

  15. atleast the engine is still only 200 odd Kgs ... back to the same as the e36 m3's ... quite good My big gripe is the front bumper .. its a bit limp wristed in the design department. but this isnt the end of the world, someone will make a splitter for it .. and itll look just fine. needs wider / shallower angled bonnet buldge.
  16. the m20b25 in the m325 is at 360,000ks .. no blue smoke or anything else .. its had two head gaskets over this time. Engine only need a new cam and timing gears other wise its ready for another 100kms ... If serviced right .. there is no reason why these engine wont last another 10-20 years.

  20. We haven't started on the engine yet .. however its the next on the list. Copper seems to be too soft .. but im not so sure itll handle the higher boost pressure. Multilayer metal composite head gasket seems to be the go. The aim is to create a mini barrier or grip for the head gasket, to stop movement under high boost. Well .. we will be push through around 18 normally and 22 pounds on 'go fast' days and upwards of possible 28-30 psi down the strip, yeah.. it will be needed. (end goal of 800bhp) Not to rain on anyones ride when I say this, but lowering the compression via the head gasket severly limits how much pressure you can run. But again .. all depends on what you're after I would say if your looking for over 500HP out of the m50 then o-ringing is a smart idea, depends again as other have said what your end goals are with the engine .. but I plan to do it right once.

  22. You could get yourself a '00 or '01 e46 328i ? not as much space in the back seats .. but has _a lot_ of boot space which I feel is more important.
  23. ahhh its just axel stands you can get from any auto shop ... and a standard low profile trolly jack (powerbuilt) We have a mobile hydrulic engine hoist next to the engine .. but thats about it for the heavy lifting stuff.
