Ok so the car turned up with one pedal less than advertised, this has moved me more towards the pulling the engine route rather than recompliance, Just a note, it definantly has a cable throttle, so how would i find out if its using new or old computer technology

and if you loosen the intake bolts slightly then swap in a v12 they turn into an epic cruiser.

biggest issue wth k&n filters are they use oil which can dirty up your AFM.

you should fake a theft and pretend the thieves pimped her ride. also never say pimped

im not an expert but sounds like Vanos rattle. have a look on youtube and compare -
i was told (not sure if reliable.) that with dormant reg they go through and mark the seatbelts etc and make sure that safety equipment works but not with damaged cars. and thats why damaged cars are around $400 and dormant are closer to $750 to recomply seems very backwards if thats true.

their online infor said the certifier will decide if a repair cert is necesary, considering there is no damage to the frame im hoping not but will find out i guess
-
only other thought, its legal to drive without a wof if you are going directly to the testing station or repairer. am i right i guessing thats the same to unregistered cars?

So further to my thread about e30 conversions i am still considering recomplying the 328i for the road. just incase anyone is in the know how hard is it to recomply, was written off by insurance company though was only superficial damage to bumper and headlight. I have been told recomplying from damage is much easier than from a car going dormant. will they still make me do things like rubber brake lines, rotors, pads, seatbelts? Also what would people put as a price for a 1999 e46 328i. manual leather interior 4 door, 155kms. nz new. full service history.? and does being recomplied generally show up on rego documents and will it affect saleability?

the orange might just be the camera angle but if you look in the tv screen menu you can change the back drop colour, the blue is sooooo much nicer to look at.

aussie need to look at why asian car makers are spending massive amounts of money setting up manufacturing plants in england and other european countries yet everyone is running from oz. The fact that the employment law in aussie is designed to pay the least skilled laziest employee lots doesnt work, this is why the big companies in the USA went under. they would be naive to believe its impossible to compete with the wages of asia

the oil leak there is often the powersteering reservoir hose leaking, gets on the block and subframes. but rocker covers are also a common point. my 540i had the same thing with the boot, there is a rubber touch pad above the number plate that you press to open it, this pushes a small switch, my one had broken a small piece of plastic (cant remember what exactly but i believe it was a border piece that held the rubber pad in) and the rubber piece was staying pushed in and it was holding the switch down, try grabbing the rubber with your fingernails in the center or at either edge and pulling gently to see if it releases the switch. if not the actuators can get stuck. i managed to fix mine without to much issue, think it was caused by people pushing way to hard.

wonder if they hire out the girl on their ebay page.

then left outside? thats alot of alloy oxidation on the pump. and for the price i would never buy a used cambelt, not worth the risk

Someone inexperianced may twist the caliper to far back and wreck the hose or do the wheel up with a rattle gun and compromise the wheel bolts, or not notice the brake pads supplied are not right. all of which can show up as an issue during hard braking at high speed. You make the point that if they have an open spot they should be able to afford a labor only job and not charge much more than what their wages are. you are sort of right that the other jobs that were scheduled will cover the overheads but in fairness why should the other customers be paying overheads and you not? they have also paid for parts so in fairness a labour only job should be charged at a higher rate. the other consideration with labor only jobs, if you bring the car in for mechanical work and bring the wrong parts what is the mechanic going to do with your pulled apart car for the next week while you chase up the right part. i would be putting the car back together how it was and charging the customer full price per hour to do so. people still dont understand that mechanical work is a professional service, why should they all treat you like a mate? -
cool, that link looks good, couldnt read it last night as i was on my mobile. will give it a good scan through today.

yea i was planning on getting the ecu reflashed to exclude ews and secondary o2 sensors etc. just as long as i dont find the twin vanos has a million extra wires to the ecu i should be fine.
