  1. what about the consumer gaurentees act? if you havent had them long then theres a possibly, though they may claim you ran at the wrong pressure/werent aligned/left the car sitting for long amounts of time etc to which you couldnt really proove otherwise.
  2. who did you buy from? Tonys tyres offer it, pretty sure brorepairs do also. not sure about the other crowds
  3. did you not buy the optional tyre insurance? i always do unless i plan to sell the car anyways edit: forgot to say i have the RE001s as well and no sign of cracking last i checked.
  4. if the chassis is bent probably not worth repairing, but if its limited to the bolt on parts, bumper/gaurd/front valance and the radiator, its worth fixing probably. you could get all that for way less than 1k, and its very straight forward to bolt on/off on these cars, no fancy tools required etc. the business savy person would buy a toast E30 for $300, take the bits they need and sell the rest to a scrap yard for close on the same amount

    A Topic

my understanding is it all changes if you are confronting an SUV though, especially a late model euro.
  6. I assume you will have to get it certed etc? If so, you may run into issues with that catchcan setup because its not supposed to be able to vent to the outside environment, emission sh*t etc. I remember reading about that a few years back when i did my M52 setup as that had the emissions stuff but the M50 wiring and so forth didnt have provision for it. just thoughts without re-research
  7. yeah neutral in between just like any other manual. if you put the little selcter coupling thing in, and then pull it out you will feel two clicks. with that bit all the way in is either 2nd or 4th (doesnt matter), then pull it out one click thats neutral (and you will notice you cant move the selctor coupling thing clockwise/anti clockwise which is what would happen if you shake the lever in the car to check your in neutral etc), and then all the way out thats 1st or 3rd edit sorry, just reinterpreted your question. the default/idle position is between 1 and 2 when installed in the car, but it can be anywhere on that horizontal when its not installed as there is no friction of the shifter to make it upright etc
  8. it is R 1 3 5 _____2 4 it is that pattern for 98% of 5speed BMWs exception being some older M3 and M5 also, you need extra force to move the shifter that little bit more to get R. it is almost impossible to do without haveing the shifter dummy mounted on the back of the gearbox
  9. out of interest does that setup make the plastic cover rattle or it okay?
  10. slower you mean, too busy playing with iPods and girlfriends

  14. im getting into taxation law here, but they cant claim the gst on expences for the house either. claiming back on the fuel to go and do expections is a grey area edit: whoops bet to it by Andrew
  15. i have 2 genuine centercaps if they are usefull to you
  16. i has this same problem several years back and after 2 years of looking i gave up and sold them as a set of three to a guy in wellington called murray. hes a member here but doesnt post much. hes the guy youd want to talk to.
  17. brought a Merc 190 yesterday, was the non EFI version and im quite sure i could claim my 316i is quicker than it, but then i guess they are built for different markets. Anyway, since i dont really know anything about them, anyone with experience know the trouble spots on these? example: the cooling system, rust areas etc reason for purchase: i dont think ive gone to the dark side, just came up at a good price and thought id see how the other half of the world live. I feel weird driving it lol edit picts:
  18. Wow i wasnt expecting that colour interior! swapping the engine isnt as straightforward as youd think, and the gearboxes dont mate up either as they are different engines. They will bolt together but then the support bracet for the gearbox needs to be replaced and shifter will be on an angle etc. Youd be better off waiting for a 525i M50 Manual to come up and swapping the interior. half a day if your one armed, and a hundred times less frustrating. of course, thats just my opinion.
  19. I dont have one either. probably why i troll here

i prefer a nice set of period correct wheels, the ones you swapped on dont do it for me either
  22. if you want to go second hand then try above, but if you plan on keeping the car long term, i would just buy new, try EuroItalian
  23. our mk3 mondo wagon is good, should have got a falcon wagon tho, despite it's looks you can probably fit less than a corolla wagon inside. Have you thought about a Volvo wagon? A lot of car for the dollar and thy aren't slouches like they uses to be though just as safe etc
  24. Yep, only commercial/industrial has gst. Re food, anyone thats done 5th form economics can tell you if gst is taken off prices arent going to drop by 15%. youd be lucky if they dropped 5%
