The lowered suspension allows the car to slide more easily but it was only suitable for restricted areas and not on public roads. It's comments like that - that really really piss me off. No lowered suspension doesn't make the car slide more easy... it's how the whole thing is set up FFS

2011 = Ford, Mini, Citroen Citroen Ds3 WRC car images have already been leaked out from a testing session: The Ford i can't find anything yet, and the Mini has about 6 different concept drawings but nothing photographed yet. Marko Martin has also been mentioned as a possible driver for Mini, and they are looking to run a two car factory team and a two car factory supported team

Qube: both of those examples are illegal.

it's not a monopoly anymore... they opened up the market in november, there are just no other players at the moment.

2 steps forward - one leg up... but yeah... 2 forward, 2 backwards really.

Update time i think... Things broken from the last race... - Stripped two threads from the block when i was refitting the sump on Saturday - Wore through the fuel filler neck at the race on Sunday. Results from the weekend.... Overall = 4th out of 55 (2nd, 3rd, and 4th where covered by 0.14 of a second. Was running 1st overall until the last run) Class = 1st The front is too soft at the moment, after a bit of research it looks like 350lb springs would be a good start, as well as upgrading the rear torsion bars to 22mm. Got the fuel filler neck done today, what a pain in the butt... Had to drop the fuel tank to get the pipe connected, moved a pipe around to try and lift the main pipes up a bit higher into the wheel arch. I'm thinking that the pipe i moved around is just a tank vent. Covered all the pipes with some tape to help stop stones getting in behind the pipes and pushing them down and into the path of the tyre again. Also score of the week - a complete 309 gti front end. I'll look at reconditioning the control arms, recondition 1.9 gti hubs, and seam welding and adding some strengthening plates to the spare sub-frame to stiffen it up. Once thats all done i'll look at attaching it to the car along with longer steering arm ends and the middle drive-shaft parts to compensate for the minor increase in width of the front end. I'm thinking it should give me a max camber of around 4.5 degrees which means i can remove camber and add it as needed versus running a max of 2.5 degrees Priced up the springs and shocks. I can get Dobi springs for $250 or H&R's for around $400 + GST The billies rebuilt from $150 each and new billie rear shocks custom valved for $600 I'll then have to seriously look at getting a set of 22 or 23mm torsion bars made or sent over from the uk for the car. that should sort out the suspension for a while at least.

I priced up the R888 vs the Dunlop DZ03's and they where basically the same price for the 205... Which would be a better tyre?

yeah thats what i figured, there are some dual cpu laptops floating around tho.
-
Fuzy, you'll be running a 32bit windows

Its not the OS that limits the amount of RAM a system can use but the architecture it's built on. i.e. 32/64bit. From wikipedia: the AMD64 architecture currently has a 52 bit limit on physical memory and only supports a 48-bit virtual address space.[3] This is 4 PB (4 × 10245 bytes) and 256 TB (256 × 10244 bytes), lrespectively. So basically a 64bit OS could potentially handle up to 4PB of physical Ram.
-
It's not so much the cpu's but the motherboards that are restricting the triple channel, a lot of new motherboards are i7 compatible but are dual channel.

The turbo boost is a little misleading with how it works. It doesn't actually boost the speed of all the cores on the machine, instead is shut's down cores and boosts the speeds of the remaining operational cores. The speeds for your cpu Glenn. i7-720QM - Base speed of 1.6GHz - 6MB L3 Cache Peak Clock Speeds from Turbo Boost - 4 Cores: 1.73GHz - 3 Cores: 1.73GHz - 2 Cores: 2.4GHz - 1 Core: 2.8GHz Glenn the i7-720 is a quad core cpu, do you have 2 physical cpu's in your machine?
-
A different partition will not really improve much, the same physical drive is still needing to be accessed. The shop will just usually set it to system controlled as per windows defaults. If you set the max and min value to be the same it will greatly reduce the possible fragmentation of the file as the size is static.

You need more ram. You will want a min of 8gb in a 64bit Dual Channel machine. You need to pair your ram i.e. 2x4gb chips, 4x2gb chips, 4x4gb chips to get the best performance from the motherboard. We have noticed a markable performance hit using unmatched ram pairs in our CAD machines. The newer motherboards run triple channel thus they need to be in groups of 3. i.e. 3gb, 6gb, 12gb of ram. Also please note that a 64bit machine will run SLOWER than a 32bit machine for simple tasks on the same hardware. It's not until you get to larger computational requirements that the 64bit machine will run faster, the main reason we are pushing for 64bit at work is because of the memory requirements of some of our projects where we cannot open the files in a 32bit machine (4gb memory limit).

We use 2x the installed amount of ram as a min for CAD work. We also set the max and min to the same value. If you have 2 physical disc's in your machine (note: not two partitions on one physical disc) you can put your pagefile (virtual memory) onto the second physical disc. This will increase the performance of your operating system slightly. How much Ram do you have in each machine? What OS are you running? If your running Vista, and your programs allow it - change to Windows 7 as soon as possible. We have benchmarked a 10 - 12% increase in CAD performance from the change on the same hardware.
