With the Navara you can buy the latest shape the D40 and still the old shape D27 which are assembled in Thailand, sell for under $30k new. I am looking also for a work ute so will watch this thread I am leaning towards the big datsun, I have ruled out the Colorado as I want 2WD extra/space/crewcab, and they have stopped making them in Dec 09. The Ford has a 1.6m deck lenght in the cab variety I want so it's looking datto at the moment. Forget Great wall if you want to live incase of an accident 1 star safety rating.

Your Top 3 most rubbish cars you have driven

The misses had a 1998 daihatsu Terios as a work car and I swear it tried to kill me everytime I drove it, taller than they are long and just dangerous if you have to turn a corner north of 50k per hour. Don't do it to your self stear clear. -

1. 1981 XD Falcon with wow factor borg warner, heap of junk rust, rattles, rolls, headlights died on the Kaimais at midnight, but all dash lights interior lights worked no headlights spent the night on top of the kaimais in August lovely. 2. Traded that the next day (with two smashed headlights) for a 1986 lancia therma delta with a hole in the radiator that would drive for 15 minutes before it needed refilling, coudn't find a spare radiator for it swapped it for a chilly bin full of piss. 3. My 85 sigma just to mnay K's 380 odd and just worn out, breaks didn't work to good ended up rear ending a lady waiting at the narrow bridge at Urenui back in the day heaps wrong with it. Still drove it home after that and it was parked on side of raod and some guy had a heart attack and run off the road and rear ended it. -
Wow didn't know a supercharger exisited for the 2.8 or at all. Is that a BMW made or GMC etc?

I was going to say the SAAB 9000 stopped in 1997 is that right I would stay clear now getting to old for SAAB. SAAB as a company will be lucky to survive until February this year, and unlike BMW there are no business's that specialise in parts and services per say, just not that sort of following, I see heaps of E36 and E46 and E34 and to a lessor extent E39 around. Parts are good for BMW especially the usual stuff that is common, also i was quoted $800 for a replacement drivers mirror in that SAAB and the only place who had a used part was in Western Oz.

I had a 1998 95 2.3LPT (Low pressure turbo) the aero's are HPT high PT, but the LPT go very hard indeed, great cars basically the GM 2.2 engine we had here in vectra's of the same year. The coil pack failed in it that was $1300 parts are expensive worse than BMW way worse in fact. When I upgrade it was either going to be a 9-3 wagon or 530i circa 2003 wagon, probably be the E39 again.

My bet is you won't buy a E30 Touring. My reason is you have been given positive afirmations by a host of E30 owners who have explained they are pratically the same as cars. You are still looking for objections and reasons not to buy and you will find one eventually. Just my observation.

I wouldn't of thought so it has to be at least 20 years old to the build date. Got to VTNZ or vehicle compliance and ask them directly, may be a bit of a mission, is it left hand drive?, being from GB probably not.

Reliable those 2.8 engines bomb proof even, i've heard the 3.0 6 cylinder that came out in the later E39 5 series were smoother but not quite as reliable. 2.8 would be adequate in a 2 tonne car, from my experience of driving that engine everyday. Get the car checked over I think you now that by now and listen and preferably be there for the inspection.

Re the other things to check for preventative maintenance shall I assume my mechanic who has worked for BMW in the UK but now works at the local now, to check these things or should I mention them to him? Sounds like I need to truck it to you, in fact I've decided I will if it requires anything major in the future.

Ok cool, no pun intended, my mate came around sounds classic doesn't it, we decided it needs the genuine BMW coolant as mentioned and 1.5l of it, as well as rear brake pads and a oil service, so it's booked in for wednesday next week. If I was in Auckland I would take it to you Glenn no problems at all. The bleeding the air and etc, just sounded like someone who knows what they are doing needs to do the job. Thanks everyone if it was a 89 Sentra SG no probs I would of done it. Must say that allot of people say an annual coolant change is crucial for a engine to get high milage, as it breaks down and can erode head gaskets etc, interesting.
