  1. I know you might have your reasons, but why only limited to SUV?. You could combine both amounts and have a car for work and play therefore a mid ninties 911 993 comes into play. A friend once told me that all car guys, if they have decent allowance in the budget for a nice car should have a 911 at least once. typo
  2. Allot of it has to do with marketing and salesman ship. In particular to excees add on's for new vehicles. typical example would be a niche electronics design company in Norway comes up with a module that tells the steering sensors to align the wheels and make them more asymetyrical when turning. Is that so?, the car manufacturers decide to take the technology and add it onto their vehicles because Audi and VW do it and it's only $69 euro's each corner so doesn't add a great deal two the price. It adds another tick in the feature page of the brochure, where they are all compared and often purchased for features v price. Truth be told we don't actually need half of them, do certian features actually do anything "noticebly" or even be used.
  3. Public holiday here on Monday isn't it Josh Wgtn anniversary
  4. I'll give it a walk around next week I haven't caught up with moro for ages. It will be alright if he's retailing it, manual coupe 325i, I will only notice cosmetic stuff.
  5. whats a fairly agricultural car that has the comfort and power and not a Bf familia or a MK6 cortina P11 primera something a little nicer, a good alrounder and not to old?
  6. protectionism alright. Glenn be honest in this answear do you reccomend people service their vehicles (basic engine oil and filter) every 10-20,000k's or what ever the manufacture reccomends. Or when the vehicle blackens it's oil could be 12,00k or could be 35,000k before the oil discolours, depending on factors engine wear milage etc. Excluding fuel, air filters etc. My XR6 hasn't had an oil change for nearly 30k now and the oil is still very reddish/brown.
  7. You would hope that third party componentry which BOSCH, is a major player, macpherson etc are all quality controlled and packaged into a body shell deisgned by designers and apporved by the board by the respective marques is the case. Certainly adds weight that the older the car BMW in this case best to stick to the pre E46's at this stage unless you are in the know. When you think about it panels, and engine block and the dash board, is unique to that model most other parts are interchangable or made by third parties, makes sense, designing 10,000 parts from scratch everytime a model is released we coudn't afford to buy them new. Barina spark new for $17000 testimount to that. Plenty of shared technology and expertise should make things easier in saying all that.
  8. Question mechanicals are becoming more reliable even since the early ninties, valve grinds and, throwing legs out of beds happens but not to epidemic levels. Modern/new cars have complicated electronics, most of them do really. Is this for the reason that componentry and modules talking to each other is in anticipation for electrifying and battery powered technology trials, for future non fuel motive powered vehicles?, the dealth of the industrial age. Or is it to cause problems for vehicles therefore service departments and dealerships to remain viable, plenty of talk on here about the life of a lightbulb, 5 yearrs for a car etc.
  9. Thinking back he even tried to use the negative terminal for another car, even that had to be sanded for about half an hour just hopeless water just gets in everywhere, heart breaking.
  10. My father in law bought a car to rebuild that had been in the drink, lake in fact. In the end nothing worked not even the side mirrors only thing he kept was the jack and wheel brace the sediment builds up if they are not cleaned when wet, I woudn't touch water logged stuff after seeing that. series 1 rx7 it was.
  11. My vote is to resurrect it you have the panels and parts there worth more as an M3 anyday, doesn't look to far gone.
  12. Happy birthday Brent, hows business ATM.
  13. Just get someone to take a look at it dude, I've found by the time you research, and think it's this and that, it is usually something else and the cost to have an expert look at it is the same anyway. The old kiwi DIY has allot to answear for lol.
  14. I know all the dealers in Plamy can't remember seeing a White M3 E30 on any of them in December. Doesn't mean much though there are some nice machines in dealers sheds at home and at work everywhere, nice little guards red 74 911 on Rangitikei street.
  15. Give either Doug a call from Robinsons or John from independant prestige, they are dealers but would know the best person in hamilton.
  16. On another look imagine the value of that in 15-20 years. Considering it's rareity and k's and conition, hate to think what it's worth now let alone.
  17. Devoted to the look of that E31. You have had some lovely vehicles SS.

    BMW Trike

Like the boat as well, nice tub with twin 150's.
  19. My thoughts are you will be hard pressed to swap a Japanese micra small car for one of the best executive sedans out of europe, but you never know. Might pay to just sell the Nissan or trade it in talk to cosmos.
  20. Thanks heaps guys, I will keep it in the house shed so I can drive it often enough, keep all 4's on the ground and battery connected and give it a decent drive with heaters on etc. Just going to cruise my diesel van for a while, it's been sitting for 18 months, cheaper than petrol, good for towing have a few holidays plannned with the caravan, so it's good for that, show season, and moving sheep, cleaning up the barn - rubbish to tip, just easier to use the van for all that. I'll wof and reg the bmw later in the year once the 12 months reg on the van runs out and put that back on hold.
  21. Thanks guys I will leave the trickle charge solar panel thingy on the dash plugged into the ciggy lighter, is that what you mean Paul?
  22. As above basically want to park the touring up for more likely the rest of this year at least, have other vehicles and not interested in selling it. I have done this before with other cars with all intent purposes to give them a run every week, that happened about twice in total last year. So will it be o.k to disconnect the battery in the E39, pretty full on terminal set up back there, should I take the negative off only?, will this re-set everything, worth doing, should I just give it a blat every month? Expensive battery in these so whats the verdict. TIA
  23. I have been following the E39 Touring market on TM for 18 months and they do sit for a while. The 1 in Auckland 97 528i in light green with sunroof for $7.5k has been sitting for three months. I have another car to use now so are poking my touring away in the shed put it on hold for a while. Great cars but trying to sell anything at the moment is tough regardless of what it is.
  24. When JG CHCH replaced your frame did they use a frame only (clip) without a backing plate?
