E30 died on me in a weird manner. Help needed
euroriffic replied to Rohil's topic in Electrical system
Sounds like an issue with the electrical barrel on the back of the key barrel. I'd be starting there. Had mine fall off one day so key wouldn't do Anything- 3 replies

Haha I'm thinking so!So today was another day of playing bmws in the scortching south island heat. Touring2.0 got a centre arm rest installed this morning followed by an upgrade of the basic 8 button Obc for a 18 button. Was pretty straight forward as I remembered it, but had to run a new cable out to the temp sensor since it didn't have one before. All works well apart from the range feature, but is always inaccurate so doesn't really bother me. Also went to fit a tech2 m sport wheel while it was off but it's a non airbag one and couldn't be bother messing around with it so jus the standard sport one went back on. And pics after lows fitted. Still need to sort my other wheels out for it to, ether the acs rensports or the Mcoupe roadstars

E46 was making a funny Ticking noise from the rear, diagnosed it to the diff. Drained the fluid and pulled this out :| One of the teeth off the pinion wheel. So looks like I need a new 3.91 diff and an abs pump/module for it now. Looks like the missus is walking everywhere now since she can't drive the others since they're all manual. Between us, it Will do her some good anyway

Yea been using some flush, stp stuff first till I got my hands on the wurth stuff. don't normally use it but for this one thought I'd better otherwise it'll just keep coming out and blocking everything up again. The breather valve was well blocked up from all the crud in it so can only imagine the vanos unit!
-
Yea was super cruddy all up under the rocker cover and around the valves so spent a Friday night with a brush and a vacuum cleaner trying to remove as much as possible. Even had an oil cap seal in there. Ugghh
-
Owned it for about 6 months, only driving it those 200kms. Is still down on power under 3k which I'm thinking is a stuck vanos unit looking at the condition of the oil so a rebuild might be up next

Oh, and on Xmas eve the father in law gave me this nice wee present after he moved the m3 Was fair to say I was not impressed!!! Luckily I am a man who is capable of repairing the damage done Ta daa!

Changed the oil in touring2.0 for the 3rd time in less than 200km and still have sh*t coming out! Also put Billy's and lows in but forgot to take pics. Will get some for tomorrow after centre armrest is installed. Oh and ticked over 200,000kms Inside the oil filter and housing

So I threw out a b25 cam today right. Was pretty warn though. Have a few spare rockers and valves you are welcome to. Depends what you want to do/ spend, Head wise I'd get it checked, most likely valve seat damage. When we did ours spent about 700 on new parts like gaskets, waterpump, tstat, cambelt etc with another 700 for head crack and hardness tested, resurfaced, new valve seat and all valves faced and laped, then all assembled ourselves. Where as you can pick a whole motor up for less than that

I know a guy that did have a few minis lying around. Will give him a yell. What are you after exactly
-
All right! Yea if Francois can't find his old one that'll be the go, cheers!

Is this wee fella here that goes in the end to secure line
-
Sure is. Did a leakage test and seems to be leaking from the inlet valves. Unsure if it's just crud built up in the valve seats or not
-
Wanna sell me the wee retaining clip that holds the clutch line into the cylinder? Mine flew off never to be seen again
-
Has 199xxx on it. Unsure if it's fuel pump, when at lower rpm it seems to struggle and has the odd miss, but up the higher revs seems to pull better, that's why I'm thinking its vanos or cat. Has about as much power as a 318/320
-
Still trying to find why the touring is down on power. Scan had nothing, Compression test was all good, replaced pvc valve as there was a lot of sh*t in it and a lot of oil in the intake and blowing out the exhaust, stopped the smoking issue, but still no power improvement. Cleaned the throttle body, Ran some upper cylinder cleaner through it, cleared more sh*t out but still no power. Next step is vanos and check if the cat is blocked. Oh and when I was out test driving it the clutch line came out the master and put brake fluid everywhere. And when trying to take the retaining clip off it flew off under the carpet never to be seen again. Looks like it's cable ties to hold it in

I was glad they canned the first one, least this way they had the full band since Christie Mcvie wasn't coming before, or to dunedin.I would of put car parts off to see them, said they'll be back but wait and see I guess

Drove it home from Fleetwood Mac. Awesome concert! Lindsey Buckingham is the man!!!

Am also havnt the same delemma at the moment on what to do with mine.
-
Also have the same issue with my 328i touring. Am running a getrag 240 from a 318i with pivot arm, baring and Slave, m3 evo fly and clutch setup, and yea, had to take the clutch stop out so can push it hard to the floor to get it to disengage, but can still feel it's not completely.

Looks good! Knew I should of brought it and put my manual conversion in. Ohwell

Also buy a lot of stuff thru Paul, generally something every month. Great guy to deal with, lets you know what's happening with availability etc and gives options if needing bits straight away or can wait till the next weekly shipment comes in. And yes, order by lunch, sitting at my door an hour or so later. Has also made a personal delivery just to put a face to the name and see what I'm driving.
