just take it off and see. there are screws inside the boot lid, directly below the spoiler. the paint under the spoiler will be newer, and there mite be some marks around the edges of the spoiler, nothing dramatic and too serious to fix with at home cleaning kits. why you taking it off? replacement, or for the hell of it? if it ain't broke....

get bellicose or another person to get a estimate to fix the rust. by the sounds of it, there might be some more rust somewhere else that you havent noticed yet. do the maths, add up the money, and see if its worth selling and buying another e30 that's closer to your desired specs. its hard letting go of the e30, but the dollars tally up and might not be worth it financially in the long run
