I drove a Z4 today. 2.5, manual gearbox, metallic grey... Miss M is not having one of them (yet). I'd like one, though!

9.2kg. According to our (obviously inaccurate) bathroom scales. I can't weigh as much as they suggest I do!

Next Batch of Government 7s up for Tender

You're probably right. A lucky few private buyers may have picked up one or two, but I suspect dealers will have snapped up the rest. Edit: Curiously, when I looked before the cars appeared to be being offered by Tender. Now they look as thought they'll actually be for sale. Maybe they weren't (comparatively) cheap. -

For $20k, these represent a remarkable car. They're incredibly unlikely to have a hard life, and could be expected to run for a lo-o-o-ong time yet. -
"Here we run a Targa stage through the tiny village of Greenspond, dating to the 17th century. HIghlights include our driver testing the first generation BMW e30 M3 ABS while narrowly avoiding a telephone pole. Co-driver profanity has been deleted." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2c1j9Iikpb0

I've seen asking prices (and will accept that some people may pay that much) but that doesn't make them worth that. In my view... Anyone owning a M325i is more than welcome to disagree!

I think $12k is a lot to ask for an E30... At least, anything short of a M3.

Probably listed as 'tender' because Turners aren't allowed to say what the original purchase price was. A question though... Did Turners buy these ex-government and resell them, or did they sell on behalf? Probably the latter, I'd guess. (What happened to government auctions?) It would be interesting to see what they sold for, but it's likely most will have gone to dealers. -
I'd certainly not lower it as far as it has been in the pics. Not my 'thing.' If I get time I may try 'lifting' the car in the image slightly to see how things look then.

I doubt I had much input to this, but I have been pestering for an E30 kit...

I wasn't holding the phone to take the pic.

It's already nearer 301k !

I'll drop you a(nother) PM.

Kinda keen... And I'll be south of Greytown in a few days' time. just very unlikely to have space in the car for a set of rims, let alone a set with tyres on.

This is the pic I saw... I like the look. Nicely understated.

Great info - thanks. If this happens it'll primarily be a car for our daughter so a smaller engine is certainly preferred. Ron's comments about the Z4 are happily accepted - in a perfect world that might be the aim now. As it is, that'll have to wait for quite a bit later. Is there any sort of preventative fix that can reasonably be done to prevent the y-connector failure?

I can see that. I have half an eye on a 1.9 manual with a hard top, but wanted to learn more - as much as possible - before even thinking of going to look at it.

I need to come and eat at your house! The reason I was asking is because I've seen an E30 wearing them, and it looked very nice indeed. Leaving aside (for the moment) all the fun of a 5-stud swap, I wondered if the 7-series rims might be a little heavy for an E30.

Your experiences, from ownership or from driving. I'm sure there are many parallels in terms of running gear and especially engine/gearbox that can be drawn with contemporary models. Please though - no hearsay or conjecture!
