I like the threaded bar in zinc, too long with nuts... just in case you were wondering if it was an expensive aftermarket part, it;s actually a really awesome lashed-up-in-the-shed part. I'm not seeing the attraction myself, but hey, if you like it I'm very happy for ya! #8 )
  2. it's a grab-handle for the roof, aids in picking it up. A bit like the old shopping trolley handles of the 1990's.
  3. jeez, you had a mitsubishi that lasted more than 5 years? sorry, my bias. IMHO they use complex solutions to problems other manufacturers (such as Toyota or Nissan) solve with ease, though they fail at ten years. Case in point: white metal bearings for the balance shafts in 4G63 & G63B, they seize and shred the belts. Porsche & BMW execute balance shafts without issue. Oil burning like a tanker at 10-12years, it's pretty rare to see a 12 year or older Mitsi on the road. /rant. sorry, perhaps I shoulda put this one in the quick rant thread!? #8 )
  4. have a search on e36 Anti Roll Bars, you'll also find some very useful info that you'll want to consider in the mix. This thread in particular should give you food for thought. As to your lean, yes it has a list like the Costa Concordia! If it's still there after all your work, there's always different spring pad thicknesses. HTH
  5. last one looks like it just needs cleaning and a little rejuvination, and protection. g ood luck with your new acquisition, and may it exceed your expectations when it arrives!
  6. mind you, if you gotta have a mercedes, the W124 is *the* one to have.
  7. staying power is important. you know, if you want to, like, continue enjoyment. on the track, and all.
  8. well, that was cheaper than marrying her! good looking e30! welcome #8 )
  9. sounds like the behaviour mine exhibited when the regulator was about to expire. it's all fun until it happens in a rainstorm! Oh, you're not in Auckland, so less chance of that! errr, I'll get me coat.

    I'm on Grindr

I have the cheapie orange B&D too. it's fair, though very rattly. I'd go for Bosch Blue, or Hitachi... I'm trying to recall the name of the cutting disc that is strong and don't tend to explode and shrapnel on you. +1 on buying from an Engineering Shop. You'll want flap discs as well, for grinding down the welds or stripping paint. they totally rock.
  11. electric water pump and thermostat in the N54
  12. woah! nice work Graham. warp speed causing camera shake #8 )

    The Workhorse

^^ irony detector failure. See BMW dealer for re-programming.
  14. Francois is giving away a couple - they come with entire doors! See the for sale column.
  15. when people ask me this (never for parking across two parks), I look them dead in the eyes and calmly reply "yes", with deadpan expression. Stops that line of questioning dead in its tracks.
  16. yes indeedy, welcome to Bimmersport! You should find a fair ammount of info here on the N42 power plant. Although it was launched to much fanfare and was a bit of a techernogical masterpiece, it has turned out to be a bit of a reliability liability, for oil leaks, valve stem seals, timing chain & guides, thermostat (overheating)... so tread carefully. The e46 itself is a great platform (I'm biased), and if your N42 turns out to be a lemon (here's hoping not!), you can get your lemonade by employing "BMW Lego", and substituting 325i or 330i running gear (There are threads here too)... to make a seriously grin-inducing hot-hatch sleeper 325Ti or 330Ti. Don't be alarmed at the somewhat savage welcome, folks here are very helpful though do exhibit strongly held beliefs and do call it straight. cheers!
  17. hello and welcome! yeah those wheels total score - don't tell Kyu! (tee tee) Looking forward to your restoration thread.

    gotta be happy with that!
  19. yep, sadly if one is in this position, one loses all control. like setting sell prices, marketing strategy etc...
  20. hang on mate, they weren't for sale in the first place! As to keeping them: you've decided to make hose reels for your Dad out of them?
  21. Perhaps putting the absolute 100% committment and attention to detail on this vehicle aside for a while, allows you to keep and enjoy it - and avoiding justification to sell it. When you have time or funds in future, you can get back to it.
  22. Go on Dave, you know you need an 'iL' to add to your e38 collection. This one needs a little attention in a few spots, seems clean and honest overall? 1996 750iL a mere 170k kms asking $5000 1996 750il fully loaded cd player and mini screen not working Pretty sure all the other fruit works. Has had new rear rotors, brake lines all round, front and rear suspension components, starter, battery, radiator plus others. Body and Interior tidy, photo's indicate major faults. Excellent engine, and I have just had the trans serviced and checked out by Kaspa Auto's. The technician said the trans drove beautifully. Awesome car on a trip, quiet, smooth and effortless, and excellent fuel economy for a v12 pulling 2.3 ton. A lot of car for the money, no offers pls.. ... one assumes the black cat is not included.
  23. errrr, *a camel's ass in a sandstorm*?
  24. that'd be awesome, only they won't fit on my standard e46 4-spoke wheel, eh?
  25. you're welcome, John! Perhaps you can make it along to one of the future wellymeets! I'm enjoying watching the progress on your e36 project. cheers
