Great job! Did you put thicker spring pads in the rear? I think i put 15mm in mine, more for aesthetics than anything, but that would also be a very easy fix.
  2. I watched this recently, was a nice practical review of real world pros and cons….not sure I consider the prices of these vehicles very real world though.
  3. I have B4’s up front, Sachs in the back. Done 17,000km and apart from having to replace 1 because it ate the dust boot I think they are ok. I did want the expensive konis but was trying to work within a budget at the time, no regrets though.
  4. Ah yeah Zane is VERY thorough. Fingers crossed it's a battery!
  5. Geez that is rough mate. Those ZF5hp24’s eh.. Do you know if they put a new pressure regulator in it when they rebuilt it last?

Wow, huge effort. Epic stuff! Always looking forward to the next update. Love that you are taking the extra miles on the small details.

Signing off this thread, hopefully an owner carriers it on down the line. Sold the car back in July 2022. New owner drove it to Auckland and sent me some photos at the start of the year.

Fantastic! Love how fast you have executed this project. Also thanks for supplying such a detailed thread for others (but mainly myself) to follow. Has been great to follow and looking forward to the future progress.
  10. Epic spec! What a beauty.

Yeah, the OEM boot is really short, like 1/3 the length of these things. Real oversight on my behalf. They charged me $50 per bump stop which I’m guessing were bmw from the high price, but chucked on these ghetto dust boots instead of getting bmw ones while they were at it.

227,000km WOF time. Failed on a leaking front left shock. This was pretty annoying as they are only 14k old but it seems the dust boot has shredded and maybe got sucked into the shock breaking the seal. Looking back through this thread you can see the dust boots the shop put on originally are very baggy…classic scenario of $10 part shags a $300 shock. Anyway, new shock in (another Bilstein B4) with a new (bmw specific this time) dust boot and new ‘updated’ E46 wipers from BMW and the WOF sticker is on! And off to Bunnings for some insulation to make the house healthy homes compliant.
  16. I had a UUC short shifter kit in my E30, it was a manual swap so I never had a reference for how long the normal shifter was. It all worked nicely though but like Eagle said it was pretty expensive @$325 USD.

225,000km Oil service. Figured Id try some engine flush, but when I dropped the oil it wasn’t missing any so maybe it’s not burning like it was before…either way, no harm done. i picked up 2 cans of Castrol Edge 5W-30 from repco @$54 for 5L. Chucked some Ceratec in too. Got the Liqui Moly stuff from Harrys Euro. Was cheaper than buying it local despite the shipping. My Aliexpress fog lights lasted a week before one side stopped working so put the originals back in. Pay for what you get eh. I had a weird thumping noise when going over bumps coming from below the handbrake/rear console. Figured it was Guibo or CSB so loaded up the FCP cart in preparation for a refresh but after getting under the car I found one of the exhaust hanger brackets was missing a bolt and the other was only just threaded in. tightened up the exisiting bolt and will order another 2 as the other bracket is also missing one. Sounds gone today so will be ‘saving those items for later’ on the fcp cart. Was kinda looking forward to doing some wrenching but time wise it was going to be a bit annoying as I’m halfway through making the garage space nicer.

  20. Hey, sorry this is sold pending payment. I'll get in touch if it falls through. Cheers.
  21. I think I got this from Garagistic from memory however once I lowered my car I figured any lower was going to become impractical so never fitted it. . Located in Wellington. Would rather pick up but I'm sure i can wrangle some cardboard to ship at buyers risk. (NB: No hardware, just the lip itself. But as oer Andy's write up, you want stainless hardware) Andy did a great write up on how to install here:
