  1. I was drooling over the E46 but I’m also drooling over this. 🤤
  2. Guess since they have just spent $13K that’s been built into the asking price?

My fingers are crossed for you too. At least it’s not a gearbox.

I found a 1L bottle of oil in the back compartment from the previous owner which makes me think the original engine also chewed oil (although the rip in the return tube from the CCV might have had something to do with it). I’m pretty keen to put the genuine valve in. I was so mad I skimped on it on the E39 for it to basically fail on its first startup, seems some parts are just worth paying the premium on. iv topped it up twice this year so it’s not super frequent, and now I’m aware of it I know roughly when to check the dipstick.

Ah interesting. I had the same issue with a Meyle one on the M62. This is an ‘OE Supplier’ from FCP (I bought the kit) but it does look to have some negative reviews, might be worth putting in a genuine one. Thanks for the heads up.

I might be exaggerating abit but I’m pretty sure it’s about that. Yeah everything has been replaced and doesn’t look to be leaking anywhere. OFHG, sump gasket, rocker cover gasket, CCV. No blue smoke or anything out the back.

This cars consuming about 1L every 2500km. So I check the level fairly regularly. I’m putting HPR5 in the Golf and in the E46 so it keeps it simple.

218,500 km oil change time! Super cheap had a sale in the weekend. I managed to score the last 7L of HPR 5W40 for $91. Thanks to @Mikan for the stash of oil filters. I do like how the Mann filters come with the o ring and crush washer. Edit: I should add that I am absolutely thrilled with where this car is at now. It’s finally at that point where if you drove it and had to guess the mileage you wouldn’t believe it’s done 218k. I also prefer to drive this daily over the E30 now. I think it’s the steering rack that gives it the edge.
  10. $450 Selling a set of 4 style 96 wheels that came on my E46 330i. Specs are square set 8J x 17 offset of 47 http://www.bmwstylewheels.com/bmw/96 Wheels are in good condition. Tyres are also OK but on the lower end of life left (will pass WOF) 4 center caps, acouple have had the tabs broken so have been RTV'd on by previous owner. Pickup Wellington preferred but happy to work with pack and send or mainfreight depot drop off.
  11. I spent about the same as my purchase price doing my mods and it seemed a bit stupid at the time, the whole time i was thinking why am I doing this to a 4 door as i'm never going to get this money back, but it was a fun project and end result made it totally worth it. I think if the cars mint like yours, which you already own and you just want a manual, the conversion is still not a bad option. You get to replace a bunch of old parts while you are at it which in theory you would probably have to replace on a factory manual after 30 years anyway (slave, master cyls, clutch, output seal, guibo, short shifter etc). Manual 325 SE for $40k in 5 years time might sound like a bargain?

REALOEM is your friend for airbag part numbers. I don’t think they are that hard to come by as there’s so many m-sport E46’s around. For reference Weitz was selling one for $280 recently which I was too slow to get and I got this one for $220.

Driven a few km’s with the new steering wheel and I love it! That extra squish really makes for a comfortable drive, and I do love those little pads for your thumbs. I got another scanner for PA Soft and it’s working nicely. Finally I have been able to change the remote unlocking to flash the lights (it was only flashing lights for locking). Tried to do the temp re-calibration but couldn’t find the line of hex I’m looking for so will save that for another day.
  15. I couldn’t be bothered risking my head again with spring compressors and took the front shocks to Lyall Bay service Center along with my new parts and they made them up for me. Was about an hours labour and totally worth it IMO, assuming you have access to another car to transport them to the shop while your car is up on stands.

    E46 330i Touring

218,xxx km this week marks 1 year with the touring. probably close to spending double what I was intending to spend but that’s old cars for you. Passed it’s WOF with no notes last week. First WOF in my ownership so I’m very happy. thanks to @Sammo for spotting this steering wheel on FB. It arrived yesterday and with a bit of a clean up it’s come up a lot better than the initial photos of it. Still will need to be wrapped again down the track as there is some deterioration on right hand side, but good enough to use now. installation wasn’t quite as straight forward as the bracket the airbag clicks into had a sticky spring and was also missing a couple of springs that fit underneath it meaning the airbag stuck out horribly. 3 torx 30 screws and it was easily swapped over. Iv also swapped my original airbag out as it supposedly had been updated with the Takata recall, however I noted it’s still a Takata bag that’s in there? I’ll have to do a bit more research. The govt website is saying no recall required for my plate, however previous owner insisted it had multiple airbag recalls done. Now I will look at getting the old one fixed up, it’s got some stitching coming undone. Turned the car on and it didn’t explode, no airbag light either. It’s quite a bit thicker than the original wheel so am looking forward to a test drive.

Fine taste in cars you have @ctho
  20. Ooo thanks! I was searching your thread to try find the eBay seller you recommended for the wrap to no avail. Could you enlighten me?
  21. Shane from Big Ticket transport moved my E39 to Auckland and was cool. I used https://www.wisemove.co.nz/ to find a company to move my E46 from Arrowtown to Wellington. Good luck.

Sounds about right. I expect it would be easier to pry the fuel lines off with the smaller interval too.
