Is This Where The E30 Market Is Now..?
325iRod replied to E30 325i Rag-Top's topic in TradeMe discussions
That's exactly what's happened. I was interested in bidding but wanted to know more about the history, tracked down one of he previous owners (wasn't hard to do) and he confirmed it for me. -

It will be an interesting one to watch... I'm picking the Q & A section will get a hammering I notice in the engine bay pic the VIN on the windscreen seems to match the last 4 digits of the VIN advertised on Carjam. -

@Sammo yeah it was easy enough to do by hand.. just pushes in. My one was in 2 halves, if yours is the same you wont have any trouble.

Nice car, I've been tempted to upgrade my e92 335i for one of these! Welcome back
-
@Sammo I started with a press but couldn't find anything that was the right size to push it out, was only pushing the rubber. So I drilled out the centre rubber piece and used a hacksaw to cut out the outer metal ring, once the cut was made it tapped out easy with a big flat head and hammer. All up it took 30-45 min, not too bad at all

A couple of months ago I acquired a 14.5mm rear sway bar and also picked up a 3.75 medium case diff. I finally got around to installing the rear sway bar and diff a couple of weekends ago. I've been finding motivation is hard to come by in these cold dark winter months but felt good to be giving the old girl some love. I had a small case diif that I used when re-installing the fresh rear subframe so I had to remove that before installing the medium case, I decided to make the job a little easier by removing the half shafts to create a little more space. Pushed out the old rubber bush on the diff hanger and installed a new power flex bush. Installing the medium case diff was pretty hassle free but reinstalling the half shafts proved to be a right pain in the backside!! It took me several attempts over multiple nights, lots of cleaning and filing away any small imperfections on the splines, finally managed to to get the splines aligned and pushed into place. I suspect this job would have been much easier with 2 people and a hoist rather that on my back in dimly lit garage. I knew when I installed the manual conversion on this car the shifter would need replacing as you can see above it is far from pretty. After reading one of @Sammo posts I decided to go with z3 1.9 shifter, installation was quick and easy - a quick win all round. Going from no rear sway bar to a 14.5mm sway bar and new shifter I was very impressed with how the cars feeling.. having a sway bar has made a huge difference to the feel of the back end and I'm amazed at the difference the new shifter has made. Next up for this build.. Converting 4 door sport seats to 2 door following this article..

325iRod replied to SmackJackTheCrackerMan's topic in Interior
I think these seats look great but the headrest is something else π -
Yeap, I just ordered one through CHC BMW (Same part NO.), 211 +gst will be here Monday morning ex AKL.
-
Hey @Sammo Where did you source the Z3 1.9 shifter from?
-
Picked up a 14.5mm rear sway bar yesterday. Cheers @Gaz
-
@Gaz that would be be great if you could. Thankyou

Here's a pic, it doest show the change in angles very well in this pic but if you zoom in where I've circled you can just make it out. From some Google images ive looked at this arvo it looks like it may be from a z3 or ti? Feel a bit foolish, I've had this thing sitting around for ages waiting to go in.. should have done a bit more research but oh well its all learning.. just the hard way ha

Hey Sammo, yeah did see that on his website and flicked him a message just to double check it was correct before reaching out here and on FB. I'm really looking forward to seeing what difference it makes going from nothing to having a rear bar - im picking it will be a reasonable upgrade (fingers crossed). I'll be sure to update my project thread with my experience. Did you install the 16" bar or is that part of the msport package on your beauty?

Thanks Olaf, that's some good advice. As it was a standard 318 chassis it didn't come with stabilizer links, bushes or supports so I've purchased new ones. No intention of going racing but went with Poly bushes as that's the path I've gone down when replacing all other bushes on this car. I thought I had a rear sway bar that I had acquired sometime ago (pictured below) but I went to fit it all last night and of course it didn't fit so not sure what its from π

Seen this beautiful 1987 M5 at CHC BMW yesterday afternoon. Incredible condition inside and out Credit to the owner for looking after it so well.

Does anyone have a e30 14mm rear sway bar they are willing to part with? Looking to retro fit one into my 318 chassis as the arse end feels like its all over the place, hoping this would firm it up a bit. cheers!

There are a few good ones around, I would recommend a 5 star alarm w/ 3 stage immobiliser, GPS and SIM card for remote control and alerts on mobile phone. Should cost around 1200 - 2k all up.

@Sammo It is nice having both, I spend a lot of time in the garage staring at the 2 I have 3 BMW's at the moment but my end goal is to sell one of the e30's and the e92 335i and buy an M3.

I've Owned this car April 21 and its never has a wash, to be fair for most of that time its been sitting outside on axels stands under a car cover or in the garage with no engine / drive train. Anyway.. yesterday was a pretty good day in CHC so took the opportunity to give the exterior a bit of a tidy up. It still has a long way to go.. a few dings and scrapes but definitely a lot better than it was. My goal is to have this car in the panel & paint shop to fix up its imperfections and full respray in the next 2/3 months / over winter. After the giving her a good old wash, I remembered that last time I drove her the steering was way off, so as I was feeling motivated it was time for a backyard wheel alignment. I was never going to get this perfect but at least now at a glance the front wheels appear to point in the same direction. One day (probably after panel & paint) she'll get a proper wheel alignment but for now my best effort will have to do After all that took her down the end of the street (very gingerly) for the 1st test drive since installing the manual gearbox and m20b25, the car felt great.. cant wait until its all legal and road worthy and take her for a proper drive! Very quick photoshoot while I was out
