  1. We're going stir crazy Four days at Level 2 is enough to drive a man to the edge of insanity !!! Hopefully we will all be back to our usual happy, caring selves on Monday. EDIT: AAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!! Two more days !!! I can feel the anger returning... mother, fetch the metamucil, I need to vent Cheers...
  2. Ahhh.... yusss. I was referring to TradeMe listings, not to forum posts. Forum posts are an open invitation to trolls. On forums the only available remedy is for an admin to step in when things get out of hand. Trolls obtain their gratification by sparking an angry reaction to their baiting. The best thing to do is ignore them (which may enrage the troll and make him/her appear even more stupid) or thank them for their opinion, and thereby deprive them of gaining satisfaction for their efforts. Parliament is Troll Central but they seldom come to blows, as when trolling becomes a way of life it loses its effect. I'm going to miss Winston Cheers...
  3. The seller has the option of NOT answering questions so that the question does not appear on the listing. Thus if the Q&A becomes a mess it is really because the seller does not simply ignore irrelevant questions or comments. I think it was Confucius who said... "Don't feed the Trolls.". Or better yet, from Mark Twain... "Never argue with an idiot. They will drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.". Cheers...
  4. One man's cesspit is another man's hot tub The internet has something for everyone !!! Cheers...
  5. Not bad for 1600cc and 3 cylinders !!! WRC cars keep getting smaller and more agile. I think that is one place where race technology does indeed filter down (eventually) to the road cars sold to the general public. High performance will always command a price premium, but mass production keeps the premium down to a level where Joe Average can aspire to own a GR once used examples start hitting the market. The BMW market seems to be much the same. Except that the starting point is higher and the smaller number of new BM's sold in NZ (compared to Germany or the USA for example) keeps the price of used examples higher. Here it is not unusual to see a car with 90,000km on the clock advertised as "low mileage" as if that was a good thing. When in reality it means that it is approaching the point where maintenance costs are likely to rise steeply. That is often the point at which fleet cars are replaced and private owners trade up, so the less affluent buyer gets a chance to try his/her hand at used car roulette in the hope of getting a good one. That's my buy in point by the way The orange car is not in this category as it genuinely does not have a lot of kilometres on the clock and is still under factory warranty. The number of potential buyers for that car is limited, and there are a lot of other nice cars on offer in the asking price range. But you only need one BMW fanatic to be looking to trade up (from an M3 for example) to a later model, and WANT your car. Then it is just down to negotiating a deal that is acceptable to both parties. All you have to do is wait for that one buyer Cheers...
  6. If we might talk in generalisations for a moment... it would appear that not everyone who buys an expensive high performance car intends (or is capable of) exploiting its performance on a race track. Some people like to know that they have performance in reserve, some like the colour or styling, and some just like the prestige of owning a car that others can only dream of owning And not every person who aspires to own a performance car is born into money. Some have worked long and hard to get into that position, and to them bargaining over a purchase is a way of life. It has to be faced that basically no-one pays the sticker price for anything these days without asking for a discount or some kind of freeby. So disregarding a lowball offer may in fact mean that a seller has missed the opportunity to negotiate a sale. Of course, some lowballers are simply dreamers and time wasters.... but you never know Cheers... PS: And let's have a little respect for the Vitz GR please !!!!!
  7. Nothing unusual there... that's just an opening gambit. Now you start haggling over the price Cheers...
  8. Yes... Murray is one of a kind and what I like about the T50 is that it is designed from the ground up to be the best all round "driving experience" without compromise. It is a beautiful thing without needing ugly angles and gaping cooling ducts to spoil the lines. It is light and has adequate power but doesn't need to be the fastest in a straight line simply for bragging rights. And with the downforce produced by the fan it will corner like an F1 car. The T50 will be a car for a few lucky people who love driving a light and agile car where there are lots of corners and short straights... retired racing drivers for example It is not something for cruising the city and bouncing off the rev limiter while waiting at stoplights. Sadly, with such a limited production run, I expect that most of these cars will go straight into collections. Hopefully, at least one or two will see some track time so that we can have the pleasure of seeing and hearing it do its stuff in the hands of a competent driver. Cheers...
  9. To me the difference is that I would drive something like the render, but I wouldn't be seen dead in the original. Marques like BMW and Mercedes have a long history of evolutionary change... each successive model had a strong resemblance to the previous, and mature buyers liked the conservative (classic) styling. This is a market that is not overly receptive to revolutionary/outlandish change. Witness the lovely vehicle shown below that introduced a striking new vertical element into its grille when the industry was dominated by cars with a strong horizontal element. It was a marketing disaster... buyers stayed away in droves, and the Edsel was rapidly consigned to the dustbin of automotive history. It remains to be seen if the G80 design will become BMW's Edsel, or if the strong performance will draw in enough buyers prepared to overlook that face. Cheers...
  10. This is what it takes to strike the perfect balance between imparting information and providing entertainment. There are far too many videos that do neither. Putting "INSANE" in the title and a bid ass girl leaning on a car on the front page as click bait still works if all you are after is internet dollars. But if a reviewer wants to build a reputation for real knowledge and earn respect from a more discerning audience, they have to be very good at what they do. And Jason is... very good Cheers...
  11. It strikes me that the reviewer in this video is a lot more knowledgeable about the cars under review, less egotistical and a better driver than 95% of the so-called reviewers on youtube. The information was presented clearly, articulately and in an entertaining manner that made watching this video a pleasure to watch. And for that I will forgive the gratuitous drifting/smoking tyres that usually has me searching for another channel. Well done son As an aside, I wonder if the aftermarket is busy crafting body kits for the new M3 to try and tone down that ugly face ? Cheers...
  12. Only one thing missing would be an authentic sound track to make the olfactory and auditory immersion complete. You need something like this played loud on an outdoor sound system... preferably early on a fine Sunday morning to allow the neighbours to share your joy Cheers... EDIT: Just realised I have linked two videos of old British racing motorcycles warming up... so I guess my secret love is no secret any more. These old single cylinder machines are more temperamental than Trump and about as reliable. But when they sing their song on the racetrack and every beat of their mechanical heart can be heard loud and clear, it is music to my ears
  13. That's a start, but the true nuances of the aroma of Castrol R can only be fully appreciated when incinerated under high compression and expelled through a megaphone exhaust. Maybe try adding a little to your weed wacker fuel ? That's about as near as I will get Cheers...
  14. OK... I watched the first video and it appears that one car is faster than the other in a straight line Had to watch with the sound off as the guy who organises the drags is a blunt axe and provides zero real insight into any of the cars he features. The second video was more interesting. The Rimac guy has had an uphill battle to turn his dreams into reality, and deserves all the success he can get. His account of how Hammond came to write off the prototype was revealing. I had previously seen those other two Top Gear clowns goading Hammond into out driving his ability in his final run up the hill, and had wondered what the real facts were. I might add that shamelessly publishing the crash video to get the internet dollars after putting their colleague in hospital through their stupid actions, is unforgivable. Profiting from another persons misfortune when you contributed to it, is not a class act in my book. Never the less, I stand by my previous comments. Just this morning I am reading that the government is putting in place regulations to push us into electric vehicles. Even if they have carefully engineered artificial engine noise generators piped into the interior, they will never replace the smell of Castrol R in the morning Cheers...
  15. I have no idea how this particular car got stolen, but if it was stolen from a KFC carpark, then the chances are that it was an opportunistic theft. A few years back I saw a couple of security camera videos that showed guys hanging around in a gas station, waiting for people to leave their car unattended when they went inside to pay for gas. Then, you would see one guy sidle up to the car and check to see if the keys were in the ignition, and if they were, into the car and gone. From that time on I made sure to always take the keys out and put them in my pocket when filling my car and going inside to pay. Cheers...
  16. OK... agreed, technology marches on. My question was more aimed at the need for a 1000hp road car. At that level of power there appears to be a great deal of anecdotal evidence that drivers with less ability and training than that of a Formula 1 pilot will have difficulty in maintaining control of the vehicle. Or to put it another way, how does the ability to accelerate to 60mphph in 3 seconds and top 200mph benefit the motor industry and the typical driver in general ? If there is a benefit to be had, it can only be if the technology demonstrated in these " Schwarzenegger " cars can be downsized for use in less extreme vehicles for the general public. Given that there are already many manufacturers of pure electric vehicles (and more emerging all the time) it would seem that there is really little need for further hybrid development. Perhaps of more concern (depending on your point of view), is the growing trend for the technology and manufacturing giants to relentlessly force new products onto the motoring public. The vehicle industry is flat out making faster and more powerful vehicles at a time when speed limits are being forced down. Politicians and legislators are being lobbied by pressure groups praising the benefits of autonomous vehicles, yet there is no detectable ground swell of public demand for such vehicles. Yes, businesses operating fleets of linehaul trucks can see an advantage in a truck that can work 24/7 without a break and without a driver. But does that mean that we need the government to set targets for getting a percentage of autonomous electric vehicles on the road ? Hhahahaha... I hear you say... ridiculous !!! But then, if someone had told you 25 years ago that one day the telecom industry would train you to never go anywhere without a Dick Tracy wrist watch, you would have laughed too Cheers...
  17. Is there any valid reason for such cars to exist ? I mean, apart from... "because we can!!!". Cheers...
  18. I watch a lot of 4WD off roading videos. A few years back I did a couple of off-road motorcycle tours in the BC Rockies out of a little town called Cranbrook. Rode quite a few trails with forest all around as you you see in that video. Mountains, lakes and forest with some open grazing now and then... hardly any people... laid back friendly and relaxing. BC is just beautiful and an awesome place once you get away from the cities. Like the man says... don't leave home without a chainsaw in your truck Here are a couple of my pics... Cheers...
  19. ... that the USA has to offer, along comes a genuine down to earth guy that gets sh*t done without screaming, pimping sponsors products and trying to show off his mega dollar recovery rig. Take a look at how Matt with his family and a few friends just gets on with a recovery, that quite frankly had heart in my mouth a couple of times !!! This is what you need to restore your faith in humanity after getting disillusioned from watching the constant stream of crappy clickbait videos that flood youtube etc. Watch and enjoy.... Cheers...
  20. Hard to say ? There appears to be an insatiable demand for uber expensive bespoke vehicles, and the shooting brake is not too far away from this limited edition (40 cars) of the black badge Wraith. One-upmanship is alive and well among the super rich Cheers...
  21. Or if you prefer something a little more upmarket... no-one is going to outclass you when you roll up for a days shooting at the Royal Estate in one of these
  22. The term "shooting brake" comes from turn-of-the-century England, where it referred to a car used to transport a hunting party and its gear. "Brake" referred to a chassis that was used to break in horses. ... Thus was the modern idea of a shooting brake born as a low, sleek two-door wagon.
  23. Let me start by saying I know nothing about E30's, but I have messed around with old cars. So assuming that your E30 has a basic port injected engine with a separate cold start injector, I would guess that your cold start injector is stuck in the ON position. This will cause over fueling on start, a rich mixture (particularly at low rpm) rough idle and poor fuel economy. If this assumption is correct, disconnect the fuel connection (or clamp the hose) to the cold start injector and see if there is any improvement. The cold start injector should likely only get 12V while the engine is cranking, so you could also check to see if by any chance it is getting a constant 12V when the ignition is ON. One other possibility... if the E30 happens to have a MAP sensor for engine load instead of an airflow sensor, check that the hose to the MAP sensor has not split or become dislodged. Cheers...
