Ok, one more to top this all off So you don't have a paint booth to bake the recently painted bumper, and you have to fit it tonight so the missus can use it for work tomorrow and i dont want to wake up and fit it at 6am tomorrow in the rain before she leaves A spare room has now become a quazi baking booth The clear coat, isn't fresh fresh, its been air drying for say 2 hours, but outside temp is like 12degrees - need to speed this process up!

@eliongater This pipe here, goes from CCV to the Angle Heater element on the bottom of the intake manifold. On the n52 engine
-
Outstanding that this tiny tear in the rubber caused such horrific oil being sucked back into the intake Feels really good not having the car sound like a rotary now on first start or smelling like an oil refinery when I pull up to the lights
-
@qube let me know how much oil you drain out of your manifold - the oil warning light came on just before the fix, so thats 1l of oil over 2,500km, and i drained about 150ml out of the manifold (what i could get out) but apparently there was still more!
-
Update After cleaning it up again and regular driving im guessing it was probably residue oil floating round in the manifold, it's dry as a bone now on the head / block after driving it, and improved fuel economy used to average 10.5/11l per 100km round town, but now i'm getting 8l/100 being careful with the throttle. That blown CCV was really killing fuel consumption. Open road back to it's former glory averaging <7l/100km for a straight 6 is astonishing. Guess people should be aware that if your CCV is poked, that after the fix you could expect oil to keep finding it's way down the manifold seals onto the head for a short while after as there might be a remnant in the system. Thanks all for your responses through this!

So given it a day of driving, noticeable performance and fuel efficiency improvements. Had a look down the back of the head/block behind the manifold, and noticed a small amount of oil there again. (in the circled areas from last time) It's possible i didn't clean all the oil from those spots (pretty sure i did though), but I was wondering, is it plausible that there could be a remnant of oil in the manifold from the previous blown CCV, and for the next 1-2 weeks, it will be flushing its self through (and leaking past the gaskets) for a short while. As there was quite alot in the intake, did my best to get it all out. When i had it all apart i couldn't spot any hints of other oil leaks i.e. valve cover gasket, oil filter housing seal etc. If oil still persists to keep coming through the CCV and back into the intake, @Driftit did you say there is an oil leak that can stop the CCV from working? Cheers

e90 N52 engine. Got this spare, wrong one for my car (mine had 2 pipes between the CCV and intake angle connector) So if anyone wants it, $5 postage or something Or if you local in Tauranga I'll drop it off for free
-
@balancerider yeah was planning on going leather seats, Brent should still have them hopefully, just working my way round to it. That after market screen if my reversing camera, but i totally agree it looks so out of place lol But hey it's a DVD player too!

Socket located! With a bit of wiggling the ABS it fell out from under and backwards where i could grab it. @M3AN I am eyeing them up at the moment - I had a big magnet save my butt during the CCV job, but realized today that i need something extremely nimble. Any specific ones that have a strong but small magnet end? The reviews im reading for ones are quite mixed for weak magnets. Thanks heaps again!

Do you mean like a leak between the valve cover to the CCV? Or like that joiner pipe between the CCV and behind to the other side of the plenum?
-
honesty - there had to be about 100ml of oil in the intake plenum. it went all over my clothes when i flipped it upside down.
-
Thank you it's tight in there, might need some one with smaller hands too!
-
So I dropped a very handy 1/4" socket and extension under the abs unit. It's deep, so will need to lift it up. Can this be done without having to remove the hydraulic lines? Don't want to go through the bleed procedure over it Or should I say good bye to it lol

Ok, to all, the car runs, thank you so much for your responses, it was insanely appreciated, without them i wouldn't have been able to rule out the obvious, and look for what was the problem. Turns out the CCV heater hose wasn't connected, behind the throttle body, causing a massive air leak, You guys rock
-
Actual the pcv heater hose isn't connected, below the throttle body. What you reckon? The vaccum leak lol
-
Guess i'll check the fuses first, see if theres something blown there but it is sounding odly like a major vaccum leak, or AFM related Wish me luck, i really appreciate your responses, hoping this is something super stupid simple, which is usually is.
-
yes the battery was connected
-
yeah i tried the scanner, no fault codes, and i tried holding check and no code.
-
During the removal, i was using a wire to help unclip something, and it sparked out across the rocker cover sort of near the coils - you don't reckon you've potentially damaged coils in all of this? How would i go about identifying this.
-
Starting, then dying immediately - does it sound like a vaccum related thing? I would have thought it would be spluttery if it was vaccum related. Does anyone else know whether the bottom CCV return pipe to sump could potentially cause a vaccum leak? It felt pretty solid on there, but who knows
-
Can I assume that my car now not starting is because of that ? I.e. a vaccum leak down there MOV_0135.mp4
-
I think the crank return CCV is on. Worst case if it's not on properly oil leakage down there? There's no vaccum down there aye?
-
god, getting it back on, i hope i just need to push it on, because she is difficult as hell
-
is it a heating component as in stops the oil from solidifying or something? What a mad piece of German engineering this all is
-
I think so, is it just like throttle temp related? So worst case nothing really? Just curious what all these damn plugs are, it was plugged in and held in with permaseal gasket, so when i pulled it out i realised it was busted, and the old mechanic just rammed it back in. Not to mention i found more spliced wiring near it, so hoping like hell after i put it all back together it's all good lol
