  1. hmm, thats what i thought, im still not convinced, as i personally have had big end problems on other cars and it is a different more abrasive noise. Any other opinions ? should i just get the thrust bearing fixed and then see if it carries on ?
  2. Brother bought a new car manual e30 323i, with 278000km on the clock there is a rattle under load, the seller mentioned that the throw out bearing needed replacing, but me being the paranoid one suspects big ends. are there any tests to tell between the 2 problems ? apart from replacing the throw out bearing ? Its not a knocking noise at all, just a rattle under heavy load
  3. yeah the thermostat is not going to be very happy with what happened
  4. lol isnt it a 101 NO NO, to attempt to refill the coolant system at those temperatures, i would even debate it if the car is running still, i think i got lucky, because i just park the car up and went hmmm, may come back in several hours. Ive heard of many cases where people get away with it, because steam is just enough to keep the temperature from warping the head, but when they put cold water in it cracks the head severely.
  5. Gidday, Did a rebuild a while ago on a car, sold it rings / bearings / head recondition etc now i am unsure on how the new owner treated it after it being sold but how ever, there is a CRAP load of oil build up in the air flow meter, and the associated intake pipes any thing you know of, that can create oil build up that is not "blow-by" related because theres no possible way i know of, that some one can wear out rings in 20,000 kms any opinions ? i have recently heard talk on a OSV that some times needs to be replaced ? what is a OSV ? thats new to me . ..
  6. Another fail ? with forgetting to put radiator cap on ?The only things i know, is that it got awfully hot in there / steamy, e.g. was about a 3 hour cool down till i could touch the rocker cover. It melted the rubber on the distributor cap, but that was because how close it was to the exhaust headers. How ever i think i got lucky, very very lucky, ive been starting it, and its fine, no bubbles / signs of head gasket problems. It was my 4age engine, i would never forgive my self if i put my m20 motor through that
  7. i think you are correct here, there was a slow leak, initially i thought it was the radiator, i couldnt see where it was coming from, but i figured out that it was leaking most when hot, yet every time i looked under i saw nothing. And on one occassion before the incident saw water dripping from around the water pump. So yes, the incident would have most certainly put the final nail in the water pumps coffin. could you explain further on what you said about the temperature ? are you indicating that it may have actually got really hot, but not registered ? thats mainly what im worried about
  8. that white e30 touring is SEXUAL !!! i recently just heard the phrase sexual, and have no sooner found a moment that warrants it !!! MAN that touring is SEXUAL !~!!!!!!@!@!@#!@# !@# !@# !@# !@# ! ARGHHHH ! lol
  9. Glenn, yes, pro ! haha, well under closer inspection, when i realised i can finally see the waterpump seep hole, thank GOSH !!! its just the water pump, got lucky again, never the less, this should be on the fail blog, for a semi automotive onto it guy, leaving radiator cap off. Fail
  10. but is it cooked lol ? will heat cook the rubber seal in the water pump ? i suspect it was already seeping before the "incident"
  11. Hey guys Had a blonde moment, have to do it once in a life time, i was rushing filling my coolant up, and had to rush out the gate, forgot to put the radiator cap on, so during the drive at some point all the collant was emptied out, i noticed when i pulled to a stop and steam was every where. The temperature gauge did not over heat, didnt really creep above half, now there is water gushing from the water pump area Do you think i cooked the water pump seal ?? O and good news i suppose is i still have the radiator cap, so thats a win

    LOL

yeah it does make me wonder some times lol, it does make me wonder. i might just continually make auctions like that, for the sake of it, just to see what happens, i dont think some thing will equal this though, like wow
  13. 325_driver

    LOL

its not my auction, seriously, i broadcasted it on the edge, its getting up there, wonder if it can top the washing machine

  15. nah, put it all together and it didnt run because, 99% sure it was leaking through the valves, e.g. we did a s$$ job at re seating them, so i got the head professionally done. basically im paranoid just thinking if it were possible to loose all that compression down the cylinder wall, but according to the engine re conditioners, they have never heard of a engine loosing 60 - 80 psi of cylinder compression through rings, even with a warped block from some one thouroughly abusing it what you reakon ?
  16. Hey, just did a rebuild i suppose im asking this because im paranoid, as im not to flash with the mechanics of compression etc every thing was done by the book, and the rings were definately for the engine etc etc. The bore is still to specification and the rings were as specification, no doubt im concerned that when i put compressed air down the spark plug hole i can hear air leaking some where, and its not the valves, and its not out the head, definately not back out the spark plug hole. So that leaves the cylinder walls. Head was Professionally Reconned, valves seated etc. Its definately holding compression, but reason why i ask, is because, is it normal for some portion of air to leak down past the compression rings ? Obviously not a large ammount, but is this normal ? Jono
  17. Amen to N/A, thats me till i die, my brother how ever, Can deal with the whistle. Lol, ill just wait till it blows, then ill make my judgment
  18. Thats good, its a very small turbo though, i was just hoping that the whistle was spooling, not a bearing going WEEEeeeeeeeeee
  19. will do, their pretty tight, just hoping its not a bearing, Done the screw driver trick while running no wierd noises. Runs red hot, but that might have been becasue i was thrashing it, after atleast an hour of smooth driving, Well see
  20. Hey guys, On a audi, but its general turbo related Its a new K03 Turbo, And it makes a very slight whistle, Still got heaps of grunt, in fact the most power full its ever been, But i am concerned about the whistle, as i am with any additional noise (And it is NOT a whine) Most certainly a whistle I have heard a few TD03/04 turbos also whiste, and RX7, etc etc It does not whistle much if at all when standing still, revving But under acceleration at speed. There is plenty of coolant going through And nice clean oil going through Any hints ?
  21. Any one else agree that there seems to be an increase in bots / Viral Marketting over the web, even on bimmersport ? Keen to organise a Techy Strike Force Team HAHAHAHAHA

  24. Hey Preface lift, e30. The (drivers) door i replaced on my prefacelift e30 operates with electric window runners And i am trying to take them out so i can replace them with manual winding runners, And its proving to be a pain the arse. Any tips in removing the electric window assembly + runners, to replace with manual assembly ? because i dont see how it got in there let alone getting it out, one hell of a tight fit Cheers
  25. 325_driver
