I love the E30 box shape, its box but still looks classic bmw esp with some nice alloys. The E36 are too rounded & common for me to own & not as fun to drive as the tail-happy E30 handling. Not sure why someone would think they are actually hideous, loads of car out there that meet that criteria, i think most people would agree that E30 ain't one of them.

The M20 in the E34 are quite slow, if i was going with 2.5L id have to be '91+ with the newer M50. M30 3.5 are usually cheaper and go well, auto's in the M20 & M30 them are the same as the E30 auto ZFHP22 as long as you fluid has been looked after they are sweet, ive never had any problems with the auto ive owned. Ive gotten 26-28MPG cruising and about 20 MPG average around town. Ive owned 3 E34's and an E32 all M30 and had no problems switching over to the E30, quite similar in alot of aspects. http://www.bmwe34.net is a good site for more info

Hi My friend has an Jap import '98 318is which im pretty sure has a Jatco A5S300J in it. Do these use a different 'lifetime' fluid from the GM\ZF boxes?, are you able to change this fluid for Dextron 3 in these or not ? Cheers Jared

Dropping my rear axle soon so figure i could use an LSD if anyone got one. Medium Case
-
Quite possibly, easy and cheap to change it esp if its already old cant go wrong.

Just ordered me a set of sway bars from Ireland engineering 22mm Front & 19mm Rear along with some bushes. Should be a good improvement, my rear end is loose as after that meet . Bilstein HD's are fairly cheap also

My old E34 535i was upto 360,000km before i sold it. Original motor, still quiet, running & driving well. Built to last thats for sure.

4x Just pulled off an 89 E30, drove fine. Was running on some hubcentric rings Pretty good cond, no major curbing etc. Tyres 2x Toyo Proxies 4(about 2-3mil tread) & 2x Goodyear LS2000 (4-5 mil) wear all even. Taking offers.

I have the same problem as you too, fluctuates in between 1\4 & 1\2 but never goes above 1\2 I replaced near everything bar hoses and aux fan sensor(thermostat, waterpump, viscous fan, radiator, coolant sensors dme and engine. instrument cluster even) while most of that needed doing. But unlike you there are no signs to indicate the car is overheating & could be a dodgy ground on the sensor as much gauge acts a bit weird when cold. I keep meaning to measure the temp coolant hoses near the sensors to get an idea if the gauge reading right or not. Id be doing the thermostat first thou if it hasn't been done already.

The idiot back to his old tricks again, removes my bid and increases reserve. Not that anyone is surprised anymore
-
I put the genuine 3k bid on in attempts to restore it to its former glory. He'll probably he'll withdraw it again and if that the case will report him. I was bidding on this when it was 1st listed in Wellington by the previous owner, reserve was 3.5k then. Cost a bit to fix the mutilations.

I'll take the powerplant, the rest can go on the nearest scrap heap

I had 3.73 with my 325i but replaced it with a 3.64 due to bearing noise. Dont notice the difference at all. 3.64 & 3.73 are good alrounders. My 325i does 2500rpm in 5th at 100kph with the 3.64

Not sure about the thermostat didn't look, same thing happened with the old thermostat in so im pretty sure its right. Fan seems to work alright as good as an old fan does, if its anything like the E34\E32 you know when its on. Ill replace the sensor and hope that does it. thanks
