  1. As far as I can see 4-week notice periods are very common for positions that have any real level of responsibility attached to them. The reality is that the time it takes to advertise & recruit decent staff is quite long, especially with the tight labour market. Plus once the new candidate accepts the position they probably have a notice period to work out too. Without any allowance for training the new guy... So in short I think it would be mean-spirited to try & wriggle out of the notice period. As the others have said, doing anything that is going to bite you on the butt later on is not going to be worth it. Leaving early from a job doesn't just affect your boss, but also all your workmates who will have to pick up the slack in the mean time, the last thing you need is for a recruitment agent or one of your old colleagues to get the idea that you don't honour your contracts. The cases I've seen where employees have been encouraged to leave by the end of the day usually involve very sour employment relations, and may include cleaning out your desk under supervision & being escorted from the premises. My advice- work out the notice period.
  2. Obviously didn't read the care instructions... "drip dry only"
  3. I get the feeling that most bimmersporters would head down to their local pub if they felt like a chat, or dial up the nearest 0900-gaylovefest line (you know who you are).
  4. The people who drive around dusk with fogs on instead of normal lights do annoy me... but dazzle a whole lot less than those blue-white xenon bulbs (ahhh my eyes, they burn!). But I'm a closet fog-fan, I celebrate whenever there is fog or low cloud just so I can turn 'em on. Oh and its almost impossible to have them on without noticing in my car... you have to manually turn them on & they automatically turn off as soon as you turn the lights off or take the key out (plus that happy green light on the dash). I saw an E30 bimmer the other day driving around thinking he was cool with the fogs on... except one of the bulbs was out so it just looked ghey.

    Coffee

Umm yeah a bit off topic for bimmersport. Thinking of starting up a coffee company? I buy coffee beans (unground) typically the darker blends & the medium blends. Grind the beans just before the brew. Usually just get L'Affare or Screaming Turtle, but not tied to any particular brand. I heard that Instant "Coffee" isn't even really coffee at all... mostly barley & grains with coffee flavouring, even the caffeine is artificially added. Is that true?
  6. Remember that the standard entry level Ford/Holden V8 engines are just that... entry level. If car companies put the time & money into engineering what the engines are truely capable of ... look at what BMW, Mercedes and Ferrari can do with a V8. Using a 4.0L V8 from a Ford Fairmont to say V8s are crap is like saying L4 engines are crap by demonstrating a 1.6L Ford Laser. Put a 2.0L Honda S2000 engine up as comparison instead? I have not been impressed by cars like HSV Clubsports. Even though they may have horsepower, torque & a nice exhaust note... until recently the rest of the package has let them down badly. I remember jumping into a late 90's Clubsport after my 2000 model Nissan 200SX 2.0T and thinking "is this it??" But check out how many heads turn when a Mercedes E55 AMG lets rip down a city street... :mosh:
  7. I would think a 740i being driven under the speed limit is suspicious enough to be pulled over. I think we've all had experiences of 'random' checks when we feel they aren't. I have read in car mags that NZ cops have 'contact' targets, not necessarily ticket targets.
  8. Carl I thought the increases were my imagination... but now that you mention it! Should ease back again a little when winter hits.

    Is it stolen?

Subscribers to the baycorp systems can get this type of info. How did it pan out?
  10. Best way to get the clamp off your car: Pay off the bills. Two months of illegal parking, you earned that clamp well & good. $160 for 2 months of parking = $4 per day, try getting that anywhere else in town.

    New M3

The back end corners look like an old Audi Quattro, the sides like a Honda Accord Euro, and the eyes are swollen shut after getting beaten up in an alley way. But hey its the whole package. The good news is that as soon as it hits the market every E46 M3 becomes a lot more affordable...
  16. Yeah Telstra is all good. Martyn did the new plans get released very recently? I'll be shifting house soon & they didn't mention these new plans when I queried the process for moving etc.
  17. Imagine all the perfectly good time wasted in creating this website. And it totally rocks.

  19. Thanks. About 5 minutes from Courtney Place by Bimmer. The only down side is that we have a bunch of steps to tackle to get from the road to the house.
