  1. Good to see Winston & Jeanette get kicked in their respective keisters. Just like last time, we won't know the govt for a while.
  2. On a slight tangent, what do we think of the new Cayman?
  3. Marty I never thought of you as a post whore before. The squalid truth is out.
  4. Too bad it was a Welsh jersey eh Clik.
  5. Reds?NZ has some good pinots, but they are a rip off. Liking Syrahs atm. Prefer the french style. NZ has some good ones too. Check out Alain Gralloit(sp?). About $40, but its as good as some $100+ stuff. If you arent into reds, or you say 'they all the same/cheap is ok for me' you haven't had real quality. I used to drink supermarket plonk, and was happy with it untill i was ruined by being introed to some quality. Mt difficulty was one of the first i tried, light fruity, very NZ pinot, not too expensive. Try it. Its a curse though b/c im picky as now. Oh and i liked wine before Sideways, and Merlot can be ok. OMG you are a wine drinker?? I wouldn't have picked that.Plenty of good value kiwi pinots in the mid-$20's range. If you like Mt Difficulty try some of the other central otago wines... Rabbit Ranch is a regular in my house, around $22-27 per bottle depending on where you buy it. Marlborough now doing some decent pinot too. Unfortunately with Pinot you don't always get what you pay for. Plenty of stuff around the $40-60 mark that is very good drinking and still extremely good value relative to comparible french burgundy. Recently have been drinking plenty of pinot, cabernet, shiraz/syrah. If you like a decent shiraz try D'Arenburg Footbolt, good value again in mid-$20s. For whites generally I go for Rieslings (mostly dry ones), the odd Savvy, and quite a bit of Pinot Gris. Again mostly the more austere & dryer Tokay Alsace style (try Veuve Roth Pinot Gris, upper $20's per bottle). Not a big chardon fan, especially the heavy gisborne oaked ones. OK I could ramble on about wine for an age. If there are more winos in the house maybe we should start a new thread.
  6. Depends on whether he has learnt his lesson!!
  7. Not a big beer drinker, more of a wino (yes and proud of it) More of a wheat-beer & red ale fan. Current favourites Founders red head (organic beer, Nelson I think) and Hoegaaden white. Also fairly partial to a good pilsner every now & then.
  8. Agreed, this thread rocks.
  9. Get a clapped out Porsche 924 and spend the rest of your life paying for the bits that fall off it.
  10. I wouldn't lend money to ya if you've only been working 3 months
  11. Not sure which is worse, being deleted or being edited.
  12. Its bollocks. Did you know that petrol stations make the most money on 'high margin' products like coffee?

    Mock Vote

Here's one I uplifted from a different forum (Australian example) Suppose that every night, ten men go out for dinner at Il Casino. The bill for all ten comes to $100. They decide to pay their bill the way we pay our taxes, and it goes like this: The first four men (the poorest) paid nothing The fifth paid $1 The sixth $3 The seventh $7 The eighth $12 The ninth $18 The tenth man (the richest) paid $59 All 10 are quite happy with the arrangement, until one day, the owner says: "Since you are all such good customers, I'm going to reduce the cost of your daily meal by $20." So now their dinner for ten only costs $80. The group still decides to pay their bill the way we pay our taxes. The first four men are unaffected. They will still eat for free. But how should the other six, the paying customers, divvy up the $20 windfall so that everyone would get his "fair share"? They realise that $20 divided by six is $3.33. But if they subtract that from everybody's share, then the fifth and sixth men would each end up being paid to eat. The restaurateur suggests reducing each man's bill by roughly the same percentage, thus: The fifth man pays nothing (like the first four) instead of $1 (100%saving) The sixth pays $2 instead of $3 (33% saving) The seventh pays $5 instead of $7 (28% saving) The eighth pays $9 instead of $12 (25% saving) The ninth pays $14 instead of $18 (22% saving) The tenth pays $49 instead of $59 (16% saving) Each of the six are better off, and the first four continue to eat for free, as now does the fifth - but outside the restaurant, the men began to compare their savings. " I only got a dollar out of the $20," declared the sixth man. He pointed to the tenth man "but he got $10!" " That's right," exclaimed the fifth man. "I only saved a dollar too. It's unfair that he got ten times more than me!" " That's true!" shouted the seventh man. "Why should he get $10 back when I got only $2? The wealthy get all the breaks!" " Wait a minute," yelled the first four men in unison. "We didn't get anything at all. The system exploits the poor!" The nine men then surrounded the tenth and beat him up. The next night the tenth man didn't show up for dinner. The nine sat down and ate without him, but when they came to pay the bill, they discovered that they didn't have enough money between all of them to meet even half of the bill! That, boys and girls, journalists and college professors, is how our tax system works. The people who pay the highest taxes get the most benefit from a tax reduction. Tax them too much, attack them for being wealthy, and they just may not show up at the table anymore.

  16. Has anyone else witnessed road rage lately? I was driving out to a client meeting early this morning (shortly before 8am) on the Hutt Motorway Northbound & watched a guy punch out another motorist on the side of the road (through the open window of the car). I assume it followed a minor fender-bender as there was a hubcap on the road, but no other visible damage. Called it in to the cops, who took all the details. Only had to wait for about 60 seconds on hold.
  17. Hates: 1. Poor spelling/grammar (lurn properly england speaking will ya!) 2. Ultra-extremists, in any shape or form 3. Honda drivers that think the world is better for them 4. Stupid people 5. Lateness I am such a hater.
  18. Man I got part way through your epic post then got distracted by some 'troubled teenagers' breaking into my car
  19. The grey, not silver! There are about 3 different shades of silver, of which Titanium silver is by far the most common. In fact I think I remember reading that 1/3 of New NZ BMWs are that particular hue. My fav would have to be Silver Grey. Followed by either Carbon Black or Sapphire Black, then the Blues.
  20. Clik, to save us the effort of finding their website (and spelling of their name) what do your lot stand for?
  21. You'll have more money if you earn LESS than $35k too, but only if you don't have kids. National still has a policy for student loans, basically making them tax deductible (rewards those who work to pay off their loans!)
  22. The way I see it each person needs to vote for their own interests... (oops I guess that identified me as a right winger right away). I'm in the same basket as a bunch of others here, dual income no kids. Every Labour policy that hits the table appears to cost me something to benefit others. But the tax cut was really just a sweetner for me... I like the National stance on so many things like the reduction in PC bollocks, one rule for all, RMA overhaul. I'm really not sure why people distrust Don Brash so much. His long and impressive track record as the head of the Reserve Bank speaks volumes over Helen Clark's unenviable history in Parliament. I still have respect for someone who can change their mind, afterall the PM is there to represent NZ as well as his own views. If we wanted a pigheaded lunatic for a leader why not emmigrate to the USA?? I disagree with the minority vote stances above that the vote is wasted. Look at what happened with United party in the last election.
