Matts 1988 325i B-road Panda coloured WIP

Recommended Posts

Still my favourite e30 on BS,

You're my hero Matt.

Cheers buddy.

The car will look like a totally different once the ugly duckling panda mutant recieves its kit and paint.

+1000000000 :)

arrggh i cant wait to see the paint on this thing and the iS lip!

its got style AND more!

love it like always!

Cheers dude. Currently is got ghetto :D

OEM pads for street use and oem rotors, braided lines, rebuilt calipers and new master cylinder.

Im thinking new MCL and some braided lines to start me off.

Thanks for your sympathy "cry cry cry" haha...

Yeah, check your brakes lines for signs of expanding / spongyness - JiB had two that were buggered. Swap to braided lines and it was pretty awesome (ok, adequate). That's the first thing I would check.

If you spent less on the iS lip you'd have more for an LSD ;)

Cheers dude. Haha I know, i know.. But i really couldnt resist.. Im an aero whore!

Where do you guys get your braided lines from? Racebrakes?

Thanks Glen, I saw that pop up before.

I've been doing a bit of brief reading on E30 LSD's and it looks like there are several casing flavours out there.

Can someone confirm that my 325 is a Medium case?

With my last cars we could just swap backing plates over to make things fit.

Is it the same deal with the E30's or would I need to remove the entire guts and swap it all over into the new casing?

I think I'll read up on the swaps and look at it seriously..

Thanks,

Matt

E28 and E30 medium case are the same case - you swap the rear cover and output shafts. Medium case have 6 bolts around the bearing retainer on the side, small case have 4. You swap over the guts if you want to keep your existing ratio.

JiB's lines came from Mal Clark at Bygone Autos, ph 483 3991.

But i really couldnt resist.. Im an aero whore ricer!

Fixed. :P

Are your pads/discs OEM BMW? Or nah? Might help to go OEM, good stopping power. Also you'll learn that there isn't really such a thing as brake feel in an E30...'cos of that ridiculous bar that goes across the dash and the BML on the wrong side.

But you will probably realise that the brakes aren't as bad as they feel. You just have to mash the pedal, I was quite happily locking wheels at ~100kph (?) on semi's.

So much hate, haha!

Pads are some middle of the range bendix blahs. Rotors are BNT somethings. Yeah I know I shouldnt be expecting much, but IMO it feels like theres no feel at all in the pedal. No love at all man.. no love!

I think I shall swap in a new MCL and some braided lines after the paint. Maybe some nicer pads too. See how it goes and then have another rage.

Cheers for the info Cam - no doubt you'll have some more questions closer to the time :D

For now, have a crappy cellphone pic of the front aero.

I Bought an LSD center.

Still waiting on clear front and side repeaters.

Still waiting on door pods and rear bumper.

Oh, and need a new bonnet. But dont want to pay more than $50

Want to try my hand at a hill climb too..

Who else have people used to modify their factory diff's?

/Edit - Just saw this E36. Attn E36 owners your wheels need to fit like this.

That is all :D

Moar clutches for the sexy lockup :D

Thats the idea! But no-super wheel skippage. And I want to be able to do U-Turns.. Quietly.

But at the same time I dont want a limp-wristed LSD. Looking for a agressive happy medium.

haha. Make sense?

Yeah, I thought not.

Get Mal Clark to get the ramp angles changes so it engages more agressively. He can also get more clutches in there. Will cost you though.
