What'd you do to your BMW today?

Bought my first E46 325i touring a few weeks ago. Previous owner had been chasing what he suspected was a "vacuum leak", causing a slight miss at cold start but otherwise drove well.

I got under yesterday to do the fuel filter and trans mounts. Took the cover off the fuel filter and sre enough the vacuum line is perished at the regulator. Take the filter off, replace the fuel lines and vacuum line while I'm there and finish up. Had the old fuel filter on my bench with black fuel and sediment coming out of it and that's when I realized the date on it was the build date of the e46.

22 years / 160000kms later.. yikes!

I had the same thing on my 94 316i compact! Worse thing was it was dealer serviced most of its life, and had 220k on the clock.

Ohh is that getting parted out, is it? Would there be a spare towing module in there somewhere I could scavenge? 😏

Just because it's dealer serviced doesn't mean anything if the owner declines to follow the recommendations. Usually once it's out of warranty, customers don't really seem to care

A new (new new?) EGR assembly (assume they have finally caught up with updated part manufacture, had a Wahler valve after first replacement) and a new OE Pilkington windscreen

Test pass with a Rupes yellow DA fine foam and Farcela G3 1+2 compound.

Might have to dig a bit further into the clear coat with a Rupes DA blue coarse and commensurate compound.

Changed the rear bump stops on the F31 - first time wrenching on a newer BMW - was quite pleasant dealing with 10 year old bolts, rather thn 35 year old ones.

There could well be! Haven’t given it a good check over, but will let you know if the good one doesn’t need it

Replaced window motor, bushing and lubed up regulator and everything else that should be. Replaced the door lock actuator, and now everything works. Windows go up and down at the push of a button, they drop a little bit when you open the doors, they drop halfway when you put the roof up and down. Central locking works on the key… it works so well on the drivers door that I can’t open the f***ing thing now! Door locks and unlocks but neither handle, interior or exterior will open the door.

Option 1: Climb over from passenger side

Option 2: Put roof down from passenger side and jump in

Option 3: Have a BMW bonfire, and a beer

Replaced bonnet badge, bonnet and boot struts, some trim pieces. Car’s looking great, just can’t get in it which is sub-optimal.

Did a customers one last week for the exact same problem, typical actuator mechanism jam. Luckily managed to get it released by working the inner mechanism and giggling the door.

I did get it to release once, stuck again now and have ran out of daylight unfortunately.

I replaced the door lock actuator not the door lock mechanism, did you have to replace both together @Eagle?

Yeah sorry i was getting mixed up. Yeah replaced the door lock mechanism, actuator was fine. You could probably pull it apart and inspect it, maybe repair it. We just dont have time for that for went for 2nd hand one. 3k for a new one at the dealership if you feeling rich.

E36 are easy compared to anything that came after. I only removed the glass, window rail and door handle.

Even easier if your door’s not locked shut. Can’t remove the door handle without removing the window rail and can’t remove the window rail if the door is locked shut. Actually at a loss here, need to break into my own car 😂

Finally installed the new coilovers which have been sitting in a box for a few months !! Very happy with them :) Can still go a little lower than it's currently set to. MCA Pro Sport's if anybody is interested.

I meant inner door handle. You can get away without removing the outer one to install the locking mechanism although some may find it easier. As long as you can get into the car you can remove the door card with the door closed and go from there  (may result in some damage to it)

The 630i is the one to own, even with the faults it has. Could be a nice car if you got it cheap enough. The active steering is scary when it goes, mine had an intermittent fault with that and would randomly set the angle of the steering wheel.

Turners wouldnt touch my 650i, they knew the V8 was that trash 🤣
