Lucan 196 Report post Posted February 6, 2018 CBF started its own thread so here’s a big poat, picked up another members silver 540i MSport with a damaged engine off trademe a couple weeks ago, this weekend I got both cars out to my parents farm and pulled both m62s from the silver 540i (chain slipped) and my old black 540i (electric issues) and swapped the good engine into into the silver body. Cleaned it up and reassembled the interior whenever it rained and after refilling fluids etc I managed to drive it home today! Safe to say my hands are f****d but we’ll worth the effort and experience! New tyres tomorrow and need to figure out how to get the OEM Head unit going again next. NZ BMW 368 Report post Posted February 7, 2018 On 2/6/2018 at 6:28 PM, zero said: I cleaned my injectors too this weekend, using my home made rig and also installed new orings. Probably not as good as getting them done professionally but it cleared my lean fuel codes, and improved my fuel trim measurements. I can list the before and after fuel trim measurements if anyone is interested as I only understand the basics of them. When you clean them is it obvious that there’s anything in them? Do any deposits or the like come out?

You’d hope not, the basket filters should be catching any crud the fuel line filter doesn’t.

No, but it enables me to check the spray pattern is working properly. I did notice some of the injectors had a very small amount of 'gum' on them, so cleaned that off manually with injector cleaner and a clean rag before running them through my rig. I'd like my trims to be a bit better so will keep researching.
M3AN 4016 Report post Posted February 12, 2018 (edited) Received these both today. Ordered a few mins apart from FCP and Schmiedmann and delivered at exactly the same time, two courier vans in the driveway together! Big one is a radiator which will be going into the 328 and the alu one in the 328 will go into the M3. Smaller package is all the fittings I need to reassemble the bumper onto the M3 (edit: and a fuel filter hence the long box). hunter 408 Report post Posted February 17, 2018 Went over the interior of my e46 with screwdriver and tightened all the interior trim screws i could find to minimise rattling. some good results, not dsh squeaks and less random rattle in my ears whilst driving,, nearly no rattles at ll now so i'm happy.. However discovered the glove box interior has a big crack in it around one of the screw points not sure if replaceable

M3AN 4016 Report post Posted February 24, 2018 Swapped the alu radiator out of the 328 for an OEM one, the alu one is going into the M3 because one of the end tanks on that rad has a hairline crack. Interestingly the alu radiator is actually higher than the OEM one and probably 10% greater volume which is good. The OEM one is actually different to the original in the 328 (still has the separate expansion tank) because it doesn't have bottom mounts for the trans cooler, weird. I drilled holes for the top mounts but nothing to drill into at the bottom except fresh air. End result is fine anyway, trans cooler fits well hanging from the top mounts. It's a tricky job if you don't want to dump litres of perfectly good coolant. I reckon I lost about a litre which isn't too bad. Found why the coolant level sensor wasn't working... totally disintegrated. Not sure where the bits are! So that's plugged and disconnected, not essential. To be frank, I don't think BMW could have designed a more convoluted and complicated cooling system than on the E36. I'm very glad they completely redesigned it (sensibly) for the M3. It's probably not bled properly but I'll find out tomorrow when I take it for a drive.
