BMTHUG 1050 Report post Posted September 11 Modified a factory sump guard to fit my vert today
e30ftw 410 Report post Posted September 11 Curious why it would need to be modified to fit a vert? Looks like you'd be able to fit your fist between the guard and sump now

Looks like you'd be able to fit your fist between the guard and sump now The vert chassis is slightly different to sedans or coupes. It is wider at the front at the front and where the sump guard would normally mount is no existent. There's approximately 7mm of gap betwen the guard and the sump. The picture isn't doing it justice. Fits nice and snug to the engine subframe and to the front chassis rails now.
Neil McCauley 394 Report post Posted September 11 Did some late night Italian tuning - quick run out to Arrowtown and back. Got absolutely DUSTED on the Dalefield back roads by an Alfa GTV. The 1.6 was well above 7K and spitting flames as it rocketed past me 😁 God they're an achingly gorgeous car. 1299691.jpg 4 1

Neil McCauley 394 Report post Posted September 12 Messing about with some hellrot panels from a ti that decided to upside-down itself. first pass at 1000rpm with farecla G3 premium on a yellow pad with a Rupes 21mm DA. Gonna have some fun ending up burning through!

Neil McCauley 394 Report post Posted September 13 Cheers m8! Gonna practice my wool pad skillz as they're sorely lacking. Not bad for a panel that was frozen to the side of the road for a week though 😂 1
BMTHUG 1050 Report post Posted September 15 (edited) Looked at it as I undertook cutting the grass. Upgraded the rear sway bar to a 19mm Ultra racing one on Friday and it's made a massive difference. The old one looked very tiny in comparison. So I now have the full Ultra Racing front and rear sway bars plus the strut brace up front. euroriffic 607 Report post Posted September 15 Drove the compact, shredded the drive belt. Luckily not far from home, so let it sit for 10-15mins to cool down, drove it 2 mins up the last part of three mile hill, then coasted it pretty much all the way home with only needing two quick bursts of power then shut it off again. didnt have a spare belt, so fitted the rear strut brace instead.

I stripped down my Touran engine to fit the thermostat, discovered it was the wrong part, so took the engine out and put a VR6 in there instead. Then couldn't drive it for a year while I finished it. 😁

mmario 48 Report post Posted September 20 (edited) Picked up a set of gen ACS type 2's, fitted them with Firestones and I must say I am impressed with them for the money. Loving the old school look, I know it's only a 528 but I love this car, it got me into Bimmers and wrenching myself It's just such a nice cruiser If anyone is after a set of banged up style 65 reps let me know. BMTHUG 1050 Report post Posted September 20 Not mine but a clients. Did some work on the brakes, had a massive imbalance and efficiency issue in the rear. Sorted that as well as properly adjusted the rear handbrake shoes and handbrake travel as well as changed the front control arms as the balljoints were completely pooked. First FL vert I've ever seen with factory heated seats, heated mirrors and heated windscreen washer nozzles.

I don't know what they did for the NZ new cars but we replaced the boot lid on the Baur because the light was fitted so badly, with leaks and zero prep causing rusting across 60% of the underside. This car has no rust thankfully. The third brake light is properly sealed and the owner has put cavity wax around the studs and fasteners to future proof it 😀
BMTHUG 1050 Report post Posted September 22 Took her for a nice Sunday drive with the wife. Managing about 550 to 580ks per a tank (by estimate as I don't let it get below 1/4). It seems to like the 98 better with the s50 injectors. I will be retaining them for my stroker build I think as they should have more than enough flow being 22lb. The Miller Maf Conversion really helps too. It splutters a little when not warmed up but once it's warm it's really smooth and rev happy.

BMTHUG 1050 Report post Posted September 25 (edited) Finally finished the Mrs car. Upgraded the grill and painted the left side as it had bad clear coat peel. The liquid yellow is the exact same paint code as the e36 M3 Dakar yellow. Makes me love it even more now. Also did the rocker cover gasket, front crankshaft pulley (vibration damper) and crank seal. So all the engine oil seals have been done and now it is completely leak free. Was pleasantly surprised with how clean the inside of the motor was. Also painted the strut brace as it was looking tatty. Lot's of hours into this now. Replaced the faded GTS Logos too. Now I just have to put the door handle on and put the door card back on and it's good to go Edited September 25 by BMTHUG
