jeffbebe 1559 Report post Posted June 15, 2014 (edited) My new weekender and project. A pretty good starting point... Far better than I hoped for on my modest budget but I got lucky with a vendor desperate to sell before moving overseas. First thing that has to go are those ugly ass 80s exhaust tips, then a few cosmetics (msport bumpers, missing wheel cap, kerbing, etc) and some maintenance... Will start a project log soon. EDIT: Forgot to mention... For some bizarre reason it also has a towbar fitting. F*ck knows why you'd put a tow bar on one of these but someone did... And it I don't plan to keep it. jeffbebe 1559 Report post Posted June 15, 2014 Is that a 5 on the badge? Yep... Was proving too difficult/expensive to find a V8 so decided to get an 850 and start saving for an S62/manual conversion. Hope moving the badge to the correct side is part of the plan too... First thing I did!!

KwS 2425 Report post Posted June 15, 2014 Looks great. How are you finding the V12 coming from the V8?
jeffbebe 1559 Report post Posted June 15, 2014 Slow, thirsty and noisy... Apart from that, amazing!! Haha. Actually it's not bad but doesn't really find it's legs until you're doing 100+. Won't be doing much other than normal maintenance to the engine. Gonna start squirrelling away for an S62 straight away.

qube 3570 Report post Posted June 15, 2014 why does it have euro plate surrounds on normal govt issue plates on the back? anyways awesome find!!! fix up the position of the front plates, looks to be more to the drivers side? then some bmw wheel badges asap! good thing you moved the badge, thats important.. change the exhausts to some quad pipes FTW
jeffbebe 1559 Report post Posted June 15, 2014 Very nice, I can't believe youre going to get rid of the exhaust tips, they're a great period piece! Some things are best forgotten... The holocaust, those tips... Congrats Jooles, you must be thrilled! Will be interested in seeing what happens regarding the tips. What sort of price would an S62 conversion run? I've got your old M3 tips so hoping to use them and a set of RS4 mufflers. Reckon I can land an entire E39 M5 for around $10-12K from the UK, use the engine, ECU, trans, etc and part the rest. If I do the conversion myself then it won't cost much more (apart from a year or two of my time! haha).
jeffbebe 1559 Report post Posted June 15, 2014 why does it have euro plate surrounds on normal govt issue plates on the back? UK import way back when.
qube 3570 Report post Posted June 15, 2014 looks to be re registered going by carjam? (looked it up to see if it had some personalised euro plates on it before the HCA ones
jeffbebe 1559 Report post Posted June 15, 2014 Yeah. The PO was overseas for a few years. Reregistered it when he got back (and paid quite a few thousands to re-comply judging by the receipts) in Oct last year. Now he's moving overseas again... So it's had a lot of remedial stuff done for recompliance (and more stringent testing than WOF) and I get it cheap... So all in all, pretty happy. No doubt that it's still going to use up a sizeable chunk of my resources though.
