jeffbebe 1559 Report post Posted June 17, 2014 Would prefer 8 normally aspirated cylinders of the S62 kind.
hybrid 1043 Report post Posted June 17, 2014 Will be cheaper to boost
Eagle 1662 Report post Posted June 17, 2014 Would of thought the M62 with a manual box and super charger would be the best option, unless a S62 coversion is cheaper than i think.
hybrid 1043 Report post Posted June 17, 2014 Good engine and gearboxes are still around 12-15k without the parts to make it all work. Just saying

jeffbebe 1559 Report post Posted June 17, 2014 Why? It wouldn't need complying as it wouldn't be driven on the road.

Your still forgetting "all the parts to make it work" part so you're looking at adding 2-3k in muck around. mmmmm turbos
_ethrty-Andy_ 2132 Report post Posted June 17, 2014 put coin into R and D on twin turboing the V12, then let me know i hope the engine doesn't leak! have spent a few $k on maintenance bits like gaskets etc, but would imagine a 850i would be looked after a little more than a 750i. will probably buy the V12 bits when you strip it out, if i still have mine. The V12 engine is quite fun in its own way, but its really not the right *kind* of power for a super/sports car. Much better in a cruiser etc with the big torque etc

handgrenade 189 Report post Posted June 17, 2014 Even some low boost on the v12 will make a big difference. With that engine you can spool some large turbos which will move a lot of cool air at low psi ........
Michael. 2313 Report post Posted June 17, 2014 Trouble with turbocharging that setup is there is bugger all space. And the extra heat is also an issue to factor in.
handgrenade 189 Report post Posted June 17, 2014 Seen the Americans mount a t04z sized turbo at the rear exhaust area using oil pumps? The extended intake piping can even do away with an intercooler ..

And the extra heat is also an issue to factor in. yep, TT realistically just won't fit, unless you start deleting and/or relocating other stuff in the engine bay like reservoirs etc. most of the people that supercharge them delete the air con but sounds like Julian wants to keep that actually the design is so tight, the exhaust manifolds themselves are cramped and are the bottle neck... of course that would be solved with turbo manifold... but easier said than done. jeffbebe 1559 Report post Posted June 17, 2014 All moot really... I don't want to turbo charge the V12.
jeffbebe 1559 Report post Posted June 17, 2014 What was wrong with the blue one? Haven't got the report yet but called the BMW specialist in the UK who did the inspection and he said don't buy it. He said they'd found 20 issues that would make it unlikely to pass any kind of compliance. Pity, it was a great car. The owner offered to fix them but I decided it was too risky... Plus it would probably cost him the value of the car to fix!
Shorty 1 Report post Posted June 17, 2014 (edited) Looks great. Hope moving the badge to the correct side is part of the plan too... Was just thinking the same thing! Max-Earey-001-1.jpg securedownload-1.jpg How many m of piping must exh. And charged air need to go through in that rear mount setup. Whole lotta lag!
