kulgan 1042 Report post Posted October 22, 2015 One down. Four to go. The paint had a nice bright finish to it until I put on the super hard drying clear coat and it's gone quite dull. Not sure what I'm going to do yet. I think I'll explore other paints on some corrugated iron till I find a finish that works.

kulgan 1042 Report post Posted October 22, 2015 So I went out to the car tonight to get something and low and behold I discover this in the door I put on. And we all know what that means.. I've got another 3 door handles to swap over now.. ha ha

hotwire 352 Report post Posted October 22, 2015 Bugger, now you are going to have 3 mismatching colour doors/handles
kulgan 1042 Report post Posted October 22, 2015 Bugger, now you are going to have 3 mismatching colour doors/handles Oh well, they'll match the front guard and bonnet that are going to be replaced as well. Then theres the Green front bumper I've got for it and if things pan out I'll have a blue rear bumper that doesn't have a hole cut in it for a tow bar(deleting that). All good reasons to get organising(saving) for that new paint job.

kulgan 1042 Report post Posted October 22, 2015 Given it's rarity I think I'll keep to the original color, Titanium Silver. In saying that I actually prefer the darker shade thats on the donor car so I may go with that.
NUSTAD 243 Report post Posted October 22, 2015 Paint in the colour you like - it's rarish - make it your own. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
kulgan 1042 Report post Posted October 22, 2015 Paint in the colour you like - it's rarish - make it your own. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk number 41 of 113. And thats total in the world. It's the most exclusive E38 ever built. They made more L7's than these. I'll keep this one as original as I can. I'll play with the color on the 740i though when it comes time to paint that one.

This will be reserved for the 740i..lol Edited October 22, 2015 by kulgan

kulgan 1042 Report post Posted October 23, 2015 What kind of blue is that? Looks amazing It's Estoril blue but made a bit darker by using a very dark undercoat. Beautiful.
qube 3570 Report post Posted October 23, 2015 Ah ha! I knew it was something slightly different. Looked estoril but could def tell that it was a bit darker.
kulgan 1042 Report post Posted October 23, 2015 Just checked all the other doors on the 750i and they all have the fiber optics so on my next days off I'll have to pull off the interior door panels and check the bulbs. Yay, so much easier then replacing the handles..lol
Michael. 2313 Report post Posted October 23, 2015 Wow, that blue is awesome. Do it!
hotwire 352 Report post Posted October 23, 2015 ^^^^^^^Tis but not the yellow further above. I like Dakar on the E36 but certainly doesn't suit the 38
KwS 2429 Report post Posted October 24, 2015 its certainly "outrageous" though
kulgan 1042 Report post Posted November 7, 2015 Had a good result with painting the rims. The last clear coat I used gave the paint a greenish tint to it. This time I used Rust-Oleum crystal clear enamel and it's come out much brighter.
