Is the N/A performance engine dead?

After being away from 300 plus HP cars for a while I have been enjoying the performance of my MHD enhanced 335i, horsepower and torque have always made me happy. I got to thinking when I get the itch for something newer what will I get that has the HP to put a smile on my dial? As I tend to think of engines as much as chassis's the newer cars, bar a few, that floated my boat all had forced induction. I test drove a an E92 M3 a while back and loved the power it made when it revved and the 996 911 that nearly ended up in my garage last year had an equally enjoyable engine and even an older Integra I drove recently made me smile with that nice V-tec buzz. The thing is I have now become re-addicted to that broad power band that turbo engines and some big displacement V8's provide. Then I thought, is there a big/powerful  N/A engine in a chassis that I could afford (Audi R8 V10's are not in my budget) that would surpass what I have now? Now I know there are a few things to consider like power to weight ratio and how much luxury I want but with the demise of Holden (Divisive car I know but it does have a bigish HP N/A engine)  I just can't think of any N/A cars I would own. Is the future all Forced induction until we all buy electric cars?

Maybe not. I watched a clip of Mr Koneigsegg explaining his new cylinder head revolution using valve actuators. Looked really interesting as there were some awesome advantages vs traditional timed camshaft operated valves.  How much oil does the world really have left before we get to listen to muted performance cars?? Hopefully plenty.

I think this is like saying is the carbureted engine dead? Having seen manufactures move to EFI over the last 30 years. 

While they don't make them anymore there's still a huge following for those older era cars with such, and specialists that rebuild them etc. 

Factory NA cars may disappear from showroom floors, but the good ones will get a cult following stronger than ever before.

yes it's odd, looks like the NA V8 stopped with the e60; F10 brings you twin hairdryers.

E60 M5 is nice and the E92 M3 is still desirable but after that generation it's all F/I

Yup. every single BMW car model with a petrol engine now has a snail attached, no more NA engines in the range. Not for performance reasons, but again due to the restrictive emissions and fuel consumption regulations.

its human nature....i want an s62 but i dont want to pay the fuel bill.Please build me an engine that will be a 1.8 econo miser during ghe week but act like a 5 litre v8 whenever i want

There are still quite a few nice American cars that are N/A.  And now they go around corners better than most.

Models of the Corvette and Camaro have great engines.  The top models are supercharged though.

i dont think there would be many here that do not agree with the fact that here are many nice NA engines,its just that turbos allow us to have our cake and eat it too

The restrictions and regulations are not nearly as aggressive as in Europe.

Sadly the only yank muscle you get in RHD is the Mustang.  Which in NZ is not the affordable "muscle" it should be.

They are very cheap here.  And the 0% interest deals and very low monthly lease programs allow anyone to own one.

Performance engine or not i love my V12 purely because its the only N\A V12 that does well in most categories (excluding exotics for obvious reasons)

Huge potential for power increases as AMG\Zonda showed us, you just gotta have the skills and\or money.

Indeed, i dont feel wanting more power wise. If the engine was in lighter body and even manual it would destroy many much newer performance cars.
