1996 E34 540i/6 Hellrot Red

Don't see these come up often (manual). Price seems way too high though.

There was a nice Avus blue 540i/6 not long ago with similar ks and way better wheels (with mint interior as well) asking 26k.

The seller though... that description alone would make me avoid buying a car from them.

I haven't seen this car around but often used to see that number plate on a white E34 540i (which will be the one he's talking about at the bottom of the listing) near where I live in Titirangi and it was generally being driven like an idiot...

This 540is does look pretty nice though...

definitely has trouble with spelling.  that plate is supposed to spell ANUS.

Some of you may remember a "cheap" 540iS popping up on Marketplace in circa 2021. It was this car, with awful paint fade.

Everyone was after this car, including me, so I know it sold for a fair bit more than the asking price. 

This guy bought it and had it repainted along with the wheels being refurbed. I'm not sure how much mechanical work was done. 

I have seen the car in person and met the owner. From memory (don't quote me on this though) he told me the paint job was to the tune of about $20K. It is a nice, professional job overall, but I noted small amounts of overspray on door handles gaskets etc, and there was some orange peel as well (which made me think it either cost less, or he got ripped off).

The paint is definitely far better than the paint on the majority of NZ's E34 fleet - this is just me being extremely picky because I was told it cost so much. The car does (on the exterior at least) present very well.

In terms of price, it's a nice car but its certainly a ridiculous figure. The Avus blue one had no takers at $26K, and there was a 420G manual converted auto 540i with sports seats, LSD and throwing stars on trademe for $12K with no takers. They are good cars but $45K is deep into proper M Car territory.... 

Could be the lighting, but orange peel next to license plate and above tail light?

The Avus blue example that has been marketed in the last year for $26k has been given some love over the years and is a lovely car. This red one fascinates me - how did the bonnet deteriorate in condition? Left outside for years and never washed / polished?  Not sure the demand is there to make this a $45k car.

My Techno Violet 540is sat on FB for a while, the seller was a bit old school and really hated stupid questions, once we got some dialogue going we agreed on the price. It was below $20k. Ironically about 6 months after I bought it, I was parked in Lower Hutt and a chap came up to me and asked if it was for sale, he offered $25k without promting. I declined, but he gave me his number if I changed my mind. I think that prices for a lot of cars are quite cheap now, a buyers market so to speak. That said good cars should get decent money.
